Re: ABR Discussion thread XXXV - Rise of the Pervsharks!
It certainly has been a long time with this thread. I had the unfortunate event of my laptop getting stolen where all my work and saved stuff was on and then it was a real hassle trying to redo everything from scratch and real life hitting me too. And while I've been sorta living on the forum, I haven't been to this section for a long, long time. I'm kind of sad that I came in so late and wasn't able to contribute much. At the very least I hoped I made people laugh with what little I did.
Hey, someone should go tell Kpenguin to come over here. Or... maybe not since he is a mod now and might shut this down.:smalltongue:

Re: ABR Discussion thread XXXV - Rise of the Pervsharks!
I think our first order of business is to get conversation going again, preferably in a place that we're all more likely to see and chat in as and how our schedules allow (not to suggest this place isn't, but something fresh might do us good). A Skype group would be a great start to things I think.

Alrighty.
Skype ID: halftangible
I have Keveak, Q and Mask already (i think) but nobody else. I can start there and invite more as more come, if ya'll like.
EDIT: Well that's worked out quite well so far.

Re: ABR Discussion thread XXXV - Rise of the Pervsharks!
I think I was 12 when I started ABR and I was absolutely abysmal. Right around the time that my art and writing got any better was when I fell out of interest with ABR and I really miss it. I miss rushing to my computer every day after school to see how the story had developed. I miss typing out explanations of what the hell happened in my comic because I couldn't show what I actually meant. I miss creating a new character every week and then forgetting about them, and starting two webcomics but with no ideas or plans on actually making more than five strips.
Skype name is Olivershades, 'cause I made it way back when. Feel free to add me up. Just picked up a new drawing tablet and I have a day off every semester now. I'm on a bit of a nostalgia kick these days, having just found my old templates. I wanna see if I can keep on doing art.

I hope nobody minds if i'm not on Skype. I find it to be a rather large program and file size for my tastes.

Re: ABR Discussion thread XXXV - Rise of the Pervsharks!
That makes 10 skype group members! Cue the noisemakers and/or confetti.

Too bad. We could fill a whole discussion thread with all the banter that already took place there. Which is a lot if you consider that we made it only 4 days ago.

Since you're here, I think Lying mentioned getting your Skype name, but finding at least four different people with that name on Skype who all fit with your location. ^_^'

Yyyyeah I'm not going to be able to join the group.
Alright, yes, I joined way too late and didn't do very well.
I improved.
I miss this.
I would like to be part of it.
And I will do whatever I can to help this get going again.

Woh. This is weird. People I know are still here. xD
As I already mentioned to Lying, I had a really old Skype account which I recently merged with my Hotmail account, but I think it's still picking up my old account for some reason (hence why there's two of me in the same location).
I think it'll be easier if you guys just give me your usernames, and I'll add you.

I also had bland, uninteresting and inconsistent Mary Sue characters.

High power does not equal Mary Sue.

Seems qualifiable to me.

I've come to define "Mary Sue" as a character who cannot be challenged in the context of the narrative.

Here's the thing.
Nameless' Reaper (the few times I saw him, anyway - i arrived very late in ABR's lifecycle), in addition to being funny, still had problems and issues that weren't immediately solvable. Ketham and Iron really did not. The one time Ketham actually had a major problem (heart missing), he was able to get out of it without really doing anything. Iron had issues with free will and was a bit of a snarky bastard but never actually had to confront these problems. Spellscar tried to confront him about his lack of regard for free will, but he didn't actually have to address it. Granted, I would have later on if EW had continued, but we're talking about how characters are, not how they might've been.
And even if being Mary Sue wasn't a problem, there's still the other 3 adjectives I used :smalltongue:

I've personally sworn off the term altogether because of how often it just gets used as "character I don't like", but that's a fairly reasonable definition. Much more so than anything based on specific characters like personal power or those ridiculous litmus tests you can still find floating around.

Re: ABR Discussion thread XXXV - Rise of the Pervsharks!
Wow, certainly this thread is not one I was expecting to be revived... though it certainly was one I hoped would.
I mean, pretty much all I could say would just echo previous posts, but my goodness do I miss ABR and I've always hoped it would pick up again.
The problem is, like many others I've struggled to keep making content for it. So many fond memories, even if my earlier comics embarass me to no end (I like to think my art has improved at least a little bit since then).
Ok, I'm not really sure what I'm saying now... but It's so nice to see that I'm far from the only one who misses it all!
