Re: OOC 50: Over The Hill
Does someone else feel like running a monster, then? I don't know if Zefir has any specific ideas as to what it should be.
-
Re: OOC 50: Over The Hill
I think I could pull off a monster for you guys, if you want.
-
Re: OOC 50: Over The Hill
That would be appreciated. Do you need some time to think of it?
-
Re: OOC 50: Over The Hill
I have some ideas already, just need to see what characters are going to figure out which one to use.

Wenomir and Felandria will also be there, so that means another melee fighter and a half-giant sorceress.

Re: OOC 50: Over The Hill

I'm ready to post whenever Celticbear and Felandria are. What location will the monster be in?

Do you want to be right where the mineral is, or on the journey? I can do either mountain or forest.

I figure we should start where the mineral is, or close. It's going to take a while anyway.

Re: OOC 50: Over The Hill
Mountain it is then, so unless you want to, I'll set the scene.

Re: OOC 50: Over The Hill
Does anyone have a character, anywhere in the Nexus, who could be described as 'ambitious and power-hungry'? How about 'greedy and ruthless'? Because a while ago, I introduced a number of magical swords that attracted people of a certain mind set, and three have been claimed. The ambitious sabre has not been claimed, although somebody tried and failed. The sword remains in Skyside, resting in a wrecked van down the Deserted Alleyway. It's being watched, however, by the one who was rejected. In addition, the greedy cutlass also awaits claiming, lodged in the prow of a rowboat resting on the Dark Beach in Seaside.

It's fairly wide, large enough to fit a broken-down van. The van is pretty large, painted red under a thick layer of filth and grime, and the headlights have been deliberately taped over to hide their glow. The passenger door is open, and the keys are in the ignition. Driving may be difficult, however- the windscreen is dominated by a spiderweb of cracks and bullet holes, and all four tyres are flat.
The rear doors swing open, one so hard it falls off, and the inside is revealed. The van's cargo area is empty- besides a cavalry sabre lying on the bottom. It's in a black leather and wood scabbard, and has an ornate hilt of copper and brass. The scabbard comes with a pair of delicate chains from which the sword can hang from a normal belt, and is decorated with gilded runes and glyphs embossed in the leather.
The sabre releases a magical signal, calling on the ambitious and power-hungry.

Now, do they know anyone who's ambitious (yes, tons), could make use of a magic sword (not so many), is expendable if things go wrong (exactly as many as before they applied this test) and is available to get the thing (maybe...maybe not)?
Nai #17 lets go of the sword and goes to hop out of the van. It could be that there's nothing to do but keep an eye out to see who else answers the call. They'll keep thinking to see if they know a good sabre-wielder.

The beach, as its name suggests, is constantly shaded beneath a cliff of black granite, and the water off the coast is a phenomenally dark blue, nearly black at times, but the reason why most sailors shun this stretch of the coast is the beach itself. It's a sandy beach, but the sand is black, even when dry. Which makes the little jolly boat floating in from the sea so clearly visible, as it is made of white wood. The boat hits the shore with a crunch of sand beneath its keel, and hits at an unusually high tide- the boat won't be drifting off for quite a while, if at all.
The little rowboat is empty, besides a few unusual objects littering the bottom- a wooden peg-leg, carved from maple wood, an empty silver hip flask missing the stopper, a broken lantern, and a powder-horn made from walrus ivory. The only other item of interest on the beach is a cutlass, which arrived with the boat- the blade is embedded into the vessel's prow. The cutlass is a vicious looking weapon, with a slightly serrated edge near the cupped brass hilt. The guard has been shaped into a leering skull, with chips of ruby set into the eye sockets. The blade is made of polished steel, and a shark's tooth hangs from a leather thong tied to the pommel. The cutlass emanates an aura, drawing to it the ruthless and greedy.
