Idk about you guys but *I* never noticed this until my last re-read of the archive. 4th panel
When Mitd bets real monopoly money, the roach that says "take the bet" has the monopoly man hat and stache, and is standing on a monopoly house.
I saw that the first time, and nearly wet myself
I don't know if you noticed, but the placement of those characters isn't random. Hinjo, a paladin of the Sapphire Guard, is opposite of Redcloak, a cleric of the Red Mantle, sworn enemies. Roy, leader of the Order, is opposite of Xykon, leader of Team Evil and personal enemy. A random goblin mook is opposite a random human mook. A spellcasting goblin mook is opposite a human spellcaster.
For my part, I wasn't necessarily implying that the demon roaches are supposed to foreshadow V's deal with the fiends. It's entirely too invisible a link to be a foreshadowing, anyway, more like a treat for the hindsight. I was just pointing out that V and the roaches share colours and that's why the symmetry works.
I do think the link between V and the roaches is probably intentional. And the link between O-Chul and the MitD probably too. We have Rich explicitly saying that there's a clue in one of the battle strips as to what O-Chul's purpose was going to be. It may as well be this one.
What? Since when? :smallconfused: Last I checked, Rich doesn't limit himself to 16 colours or anything like that.Quote:
Oh they have the same colors! That must mean something! (yeah, there is only limited number to use in a cartoon:smallsmile:)
Actually, they DO exactly match. The only exception is with the demon roaches, and that only if we count the two roaches as separate figures rather than a single picture element.Quote:
That there is no secret code is shown in that the number stick figures on both pages don't exactly match:smallbiggrin:
Also note that while the characters are mirrored, the speak balloons match pretty well when simply translated. Especially the second line.
Yes, and they foreshadow what exactly?:smallconfused:
There are many possible combinations of protagonists and antagonist. If haley had been in the picture oppposite to Redcloak it would have foreshadow her attempt at sniping him when he enters the castle. Belkar opposite to a goblin"mook" would have foreshadowed his ascendancy to halfling godhood:smallbiggrin: etc.
Yes, it is very clear Rich used symmetry as a tool to show us both sides before battle, and for artistic effect. But going from symmetry to foreshadowing takes not observation, but imagination.
But we will soon see won't we? The next book is soon out  and Rich will certainly have something to say on the matter of O-chul and MitD in the commentaries.

Spoiler
Yes, there is a peace symbol, but I think he was referring to a literal set of three question marks. "???" It is almost directly across from the peace symbol.
Oh, I thought it was a riddle! Well, there is a peace symbol too...and *I* spotted it first! YAY me! So peace is opposite "???"...Very interresting...The question is peace...or is peace the answer???
And the laywers, but only during the closing arguments.
The guard monster outside Xykon's tower, when asleep, snores with a single 'Z.', rather than the more usual 'Zzzz'
The similar guard monster in DCF, as itSpoilerhits Roy, says '2.'
Nice touch, which only just occurred to me.
I wasn't talking about foreshadowing in this context, I was talking about significance. :D Not the same thing. I also specifically said that I don't think the link between V and the roaches and O-Chul and the MitD is meant to be foreshadowing, more like a treat for re-reading.
Good foreshadowing is the kind of thing that you miss at first, but when you eventually look back, you go all "Gah! I can't believe I missed that clue!"
Not really one's reaction upon re-reading that strip, is it? :D It's more of a "Wow, that's neat!" thing. Essentially the point of this thread. I'm just arguing that I don't think it's coincidence, which is what I thought you were implying.
Hang on a sec...
Remember when Belkar said that Redcloak is probably 17th level, and therefore can cast True Resurrection?
...I smell possible redemption.
You know, now that you've pointed out the mirror image and the connectsions between the characters, the layout for that strip just revealed an exponential increase in awesomeness to me. I only wish either the Azurite's or the Hobgoblins in line 2 were in reverse order so the symmetry was maintained throughout. Though I do like that "*sigh* Politics as usual." and "brains" are equated. Both seem equally relevant and equally helpful. :D
Question for the observant: I can't make out what it says on the menu in the last panel of this strip. Can anyone read it?
White omelette with...something 10 gold
white omelette sounds like a flumph :D
Mimosis? Mimosas? Let me Google.
Mimosas looks to be the safe bet.
EDIT:::: Arrgh. Didn't see that this had been answered. Well, take it as independent confirmation then. :smalltongue:
yeah i get hes proving his point its just such a tiny insignifigant detail that i love the giant for putting it in
I just noticed the huge bugs the slavers are riding have one huge red eye next to a tiny red dot instead of eyes of similar size.
