Just,
Kamelot.
Also,
Darkmoor.
I know they're pretty well known, but it always surprises me how many people haven't actually listened to them.
I've listened to both of them, don't worry. Anything else you'd recommend?

It'd be easier if we had a list of Power Metal that you already listen to, but here's some stuff that might be obscure enough for you not to have heard of before.
Pharaoh - US Power Metal which doesn't forget the "power" part or "metal" part. Good stuff.
Seven Kingdoms - Their first album Brothers of the Night was more melodeathy and had male vocals, but they moved firmly into Power Metal territory on their self-titled album with the introduction of new singer Sabrina Valentine, and went even further on last year's The Fire Is Mine, doing away with harsh vocals alogether.
Masterplan - A criminally underrated which started as a splinter group from Helloween. Jorn Lande, the singer for three of their five albums, is one of the best around. The singer on their second album, and the singer on their most recent one from this year are also okay, but not quite the same.
Allen/Lande - Features both Russel Allen of Symphony X and the aforementioned Jorn Lande on vocals. The first Allen/Lande record, The Battle is a great rocking time, though subsequent releases have gone for a more somber, slightly more prog rock direction, which truth be told, I haven't been as fond of.

Any others I could have gone with? For future reference, of course, and totally not for my own enjoyment
Also, how do you adequately describe facemeltery?
Facemeltery seems like it should be self-explanatory. I guess if I had to go all Miriam-Webster on it I'd say something like this: A face-melting riff is a riff of such immediate and undeniable power and awesomeness as to invite comparison to an explosion melting the skin off of one's face.
Destruction riffs are a pretty good source of facemeltery. Holy Grail have a penchant for it as well, as do Iced Earth, who you already mentioned. Also, many many riffs from Priest's Painkiller album, natch.

I feel like I should mention Demons & Wizards as well. I've found they're not that well known, even in power metal circles. Hansi Kürsch of Blind Guardian and Jon Schaffer of Iced Earth teamed up. It's exactly as cool as it sounds.
Also there's been a new Demons & Wizards album promised for the past two years now. Any time now guys.

I feel like it should be, right? Oh well, there's no accounting for taste. And I criminally forgot Painkiller.
Edit: Manegarm has a new album. Checking that one for sure.

Re: Metal Thread VII: The Mosh Pit Don't Start 'Til We Walk In
I just got my Relapse Records grabbag, and it looks like a lot of good stuff.
Though I somehow was not expecting the Dolemite soundtrack to be in there.

So, at long last, I have some music of my own to share. >.>
It's far too late for me to go into any kind of detail on what I think of it personally, but I can do that later. It's rough (especially the last track), but I'm satisfied with it. Rafiki insists on charging for the songs (ludicrous, if you ask me); if you want the sound files for free, just shoot me a PM - I'd be happy to oblige.

Guys.
SIG:AR:TYR.
Just got this dude's latest album, Godsaga. Never even heard of him before last month. It's good. Sort of a mix of quiet acoustic and really powerful atmospheric black metal. Reminds me kinda-sorta of Falkenbach. Plus this guy's screams are pretty good.
I'm getting the rest of his stuff, for sure.

Re: Metal Thread VII: The Mosh Pit Don't Start 'Til We Walk In

Heh. If you do, let me know what you think. I am a real sucker for that kind of music, my judgement might be a bit skewed :smallamused:

Re: Metal Thread VII: The Mosh Pit Don't Start 'Til We Walk In
My vacation time is approaching ... just one day and then (barring some internet cafe) we'll see again after a dozen days.
Just for info, here's the programmed soundtrack for the train's travel:
Kreator - Hordes of chaos
Summoning - Dol Guldur
Iced Earth - the Dark Saga
-
Re: Metal Thread VII: The Mosh Pit Don't Start 'Til We Walk In
welp
i for one will miss KA
that seems like a great soundtrack though man! enjoy it!

Re: Metal Thread VII: The Mosh Pit Don't Start 'Til We Walk In
That is a most excellent soundtrack.
Although, is the train ride only 3 hours long? Where's the rest? :smalltongue:

The train will leave at 6.40 and will arrive at 9.35. Only a 2.55 hours' ride, so I covered the bases.
But if there's need, I can count on something else...
Now that I'm thinking on it: I've got few hours to rest. So, i should go to bed.
Or I could watch a movie. :smalltongue:
Anyway, hello!

That Cursed Armored Train

Re: Metal Thread VII: The Mosh Pit Don't Start 'Til We Walk In
Also Crazy Train. That's the only train you'll ever need.
-
Re: Metal Thread VII: The Mosh Pit Don't Start 'Til We Walk In
I would protest that one also needs the train of consequences. :smalltongue:

Re: Metal Thread VII: The Mosh Pit Don't Start 'Til We Walk In
Okay, so, continuing my new discoveries streak, I got a hold of Crimfall's albums today.
It's actually very good. Gives me a serious Arkona vibe, along with the usual folky bits. The lead singer chick ain't no Masha, but her voice is pretty good too.

It was ok.
I've been jamming to a variety of different things lately. Went on a Finnish black metal binge that I still need to complete, have some cassettes coming in the mail, and have been listening to a few other things, but once I get back on track with my 2013 listening I will update my previous 2013 BM list.

Yeah, it's good isn't it. And I've been listening constantly since, it's just getting better. I'm having trouble getting his other stuff but he's someone to watch, for sure.
