It is only the actual damage taken (after DR has been applied) that is divided between the attacker and wearer by the Amulet.
Or to answer directly; Damage Reduction is applied before Retribution.
Doesn't the amulet work a bit like the ring of energy resistance with vulnerability, i.e. that you can choose the order of how the damage is affected in the most favorable way?
Therefore, could you have DR apply only after damage is split, so that the attacker would hurt more and the wearer much less?

A 423 Yes. However, if raising the effective spell level of the Eldritch Blast, you also raise the minimum level requirement necessary to use the spell-like ability. The level requirement is +2 for each effective spell level over level one.

If you don't have a copy of Complete Arcane handy, you can also look at this Rules of the Game article, which is essentially a preview of what appeared in the book a few months later.

In Gloom Razor's second tactical option:
It requires you to strike a foe and move 10feet. Is it necessarily in that order?

Did the Superior Unarmed Strike feat(ToB), the Improved Natural Attack feat(MM1) and a Amulet of mighty Fist stack for determining Unarmed domage?

Yes, though you need to be a monk or otherwise have an ability that lets you treat your unarmed strike as a natural weapon in order to take Improved Natural Attack with it.

It would, if it was not because damage negated or ignored by DR is not damage taken by the wearer.
The Energy Resistance/Vulnerability "trick" works because of the conflict of application order arise. In this case, however, the Amulet description says that it divides damage taken, not potential damage dealt.

IIRC you need to meet both requirements to take advantage of Moving Shadows, but it says nothing about the order in which they need to be performed.
Something along the lines of: "In any round in which you strike a foe and move 10 feet..."
As opposed to: : "In any round in which you strike a foe and THEN move 10 feet..."

Q. 443
What is the cheapest method for a halfling rogue to achieve darkvision?
Either on a permanent basis, or on a set number of charges per day basis?

No problem. Now, about that elusive popcorn list.... :smalltongue:
A443 attempt
I seriously doubt this is the cheapest, there's a lot of books I don't have...but offhand and SRD-only, a scroll of darkvision costs 150gp, and a scroll of permanency sufficient for darkvision costs 6,250gp. At a total of 6,400gp, it's a good deal less expensive then the 12,000gp googles of night.
-
Re: Simple Q&A (By RAW) III
A. 443 partial
Darkvision is a 2nd level wizard spell lasting 1 hour per level. It is touch based so can be made into a potion. So 300 gp price for 3 hours. 8 hour potion would cost 800 gp. [edit: 100 gp/hour]
A wand would cost 4500 gp (90 gp per charge) [30 gp/hour] and require an UMD check.
A continuous use ring would cost 12,000 gp... a 2 charge per day (4 hours each, CL 4) would be (command word, 2 charges per day, = 2 x 4 x 1800 / (5/2)) = 2880 gp (plus the cost of the ring) [scalable minimum 3 hours, about 360gp per hour, recharges daily]

Re: Simple Q&A (By RAW) III
A 443
It depends on what you mean by "cheapest." For example, there are prestige classes and templates that'll give it without a gold piece cost, though the opportunity cost might suck horribly.
A wand of darkvision would allow for 3 hours at a time (assuming minimum caster level) and would cost 4500 gp.
If your DM allows custom made magic items, a pair of glasses that granted darkvision would cost roughly 12,000 gp going by the rough formulas to estimate the cost (Spell Level (2) X Caster Level (3) X 2000).

A potion of a 2nd level spell at caster level 8 would cost 1200 gp, not 800 gp. The formula for potions is spell level X caster level X 50.

Re: Simple Q&A (By RAW) III
cool. Thanks for the breakdown guys.
Seems like unless i get some special home-brew with only a range of 10 ft or something, considerable cash needs to be spent.

you could also get:
Torch, 1 cp

Possible reasons include:
- You commissioned a Ranger to brew it for you.
- You always add 400 gp worth of ruby dust to your potions, because you do not like the taste.
- 2 x 8 = 24.
- You added the potion tax.
- You pressed the numbers into your calculator in the dark (before drinking the potion).
- You were testing our math skills.
- You were subconsciously trolling to see if someone with a long sig would give a negative response, so you could report them for flaming.
- You run a used potion shop.
- You wanted to show that you are only human. (Mostly to stop all the fan-mail asking if you are a demi-God)
- Your old age is starting to show (and unlike in D&D, Alzheimer's does not make you smarter, wiser and sexier)
-
Re: Simple Q&A (By RAW) III
A443(my take):
Pay a caster.
Spell, 2nd-level = Caster level × 20 gp
20 * 3 = 60gp for 3 hours of darkvision. There are 8 3-hour periods in a day.
Therefore
60 * 8 = 480 gp for a full day's worth of Darkvision.
You could save some money by not paying for 9 hours worth (rest for the day).
Usefulness is debatable, however. Do you really want that annoying apprentice sorc/wizzie following you around all day?

Q444
Do prestige classes that grant additional maneuvers allow you to replace a maneuver every even level?
Q445
If you no longer meet the pre-reqs of a maneuver you know by swapping out the pre-req maneuver, can you still use the maneuver?
-
Re: Simple Q&A (By RAW) III

Only if the prestige class says that you can do it.

What kind of action is the Jade Phoenix Mage's explosion ability (I don't remember what the real name is)?

Re: Simple Q&A (By RAW) III

Emerald Immolation has no listed activation action so it defaults to a standard action for this spell-like ability.

This was covered in the first Q&A thread question number 421:
Quote:
You only have to meet the prerequisites when you learn the new maneuver. (ToB page 9 & 44)
There is no mentioning of meeting requirements for readying it, as long as you know it of course.

Is it possible to deliver a Coup de Grace with a melee touch attack? Specifically, an infinite manifest class ability. The text says "melee weapon", but is there an official ruling on this? It sounds like it is probably a DM decision.
