Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
Well, no, but the setup is so obvious that I kinda expect it to wrap around and make her the medium anyway.
Maybe Parley will be made medium, and Coyote will insist on making it Annie anyway?
Tom is such a troll that I'll expect anything here :smalltongue:

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
Turns out none of them are the Medium. Kat will be the new Medium!
-
Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
To be honest, if I was making the choice, it'd be Smitty.
The dude's ability is to explicitly create order.
Do you know how useful that would be in a diplomat? I mean, okay, we've seen that it doesn't resolve every interpersonal issue, but considering that he can guess when his girlfriend is going to teleport behind him and is always right, come on.

I'd say the same except... "She is the clear choice."
-
Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
Well, yes. But that's why I'm saying that if I was making the choice, not Jones. =P
-
Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
If it weren't for 'She is the clear choice" I'd be springing for all three of them to be medium. It's a big job, they work well together, complimenting each others' abilities and reducing their shortcomings... As it is I think Annie has a lock on it, unless her earlier attitude of defiance and disobedience persuaded Jones she was unsuitable.
If George were named, though, that might actually have the same result as making it a three member tribunal, as Andrew and Annie would both feel compelled to help her...

That's a really good point.
George may also make more sense politically (considering her father), if such things are relevant. And they may have other plans for Antimony, or find her a little too "pro-forest" for their tastes.

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
I half except if Annie gets it that she will turn it down. She feels like such a wild card, even with the comic being written from Annie Vision.

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
Anthony Carter will intervene and refuse permission to allow his daughter be put in the same job as her mother.

Sometimes I think he enjoys toying with us.:smallamused:

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
Clearly, the medium will be Paz. The Court sees "Good with animals", and says, hey, clearly she knows what she's doing! :smalltongue:
-
Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
The new medium turns out to be Zimmy. Five months later, when the Forest is in flames and the Court is being torn apart by horrible things, the Headmaster admits that he was just really bored.

Only sometimes?

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
Eh, it could go either way.
Annie is a little too predictable as the Medium, but it kind of fits. If Annie needed to undergo a Trial By Fire to become Medium, it would probably have gotten it's own chapter, rather than being on the end of a Kat-focused chapter. However, the chapter is titled Changes. If Kat is now "Officially" The new Diego, and Annie becomes the Medium, then it fits thematically.
I very much doubt it's going to be Parley. She's a terrible choice for a wide variety of reasons.
No, the other choice is something totally out of the park.
1: The Court will appoint no new Medium. It has nothing to discuss with the Forest.
2: It will be somebody who was never even an official candidate, like Zimmy.
3: It will be Boxbot, who is terrible.
-
Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
I really can't imagine it would be Annie, after the whole incident in the forest- She's shown herself to take neither the Court nor Coyote halfway seriously.

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
My prediction is that somehow, someway, Tom will manage to leave this a cliffhanger until Monday. I don't know how he will do that, but this setup suggests we should get an answer Friday. But from my reading of the comic, I think Tom is allergic to solving ANY mystery on a Friday. So somehow he will make this cliffhanger last till Monday, even, or perhaps especially because he has setup a situation which suggests the answer would be in the next strip.

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
The headmaster has an amazing ability to slouch even when his back is up against the chair properly and he shouldn't be capable of it. :smallconfused:

I sit like that sometimes. His butt is in the middle of the cushion instead of up against the back, it just doesn't look like it. He couldn't sit up straight from that angle if he tried, not without leaning away from the back of the chair.
-
Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
Apparently, slouching like that is better for your back than sitting straight up- your back should be at a 120 degree angle to your thighs, provided they're parallel to the ground.
Less disc slippage or something, and considering that the principal does seem kind of old, maybe he knows it.

THEY THOUGHT I WAS MAD, MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
Who was surprised it wasn't annie? Anyone?
No?
Yea, me either.
Well, unless our good friend Coyote has anything to say about it. And I think he does.
-
Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
I'm with the wolf on this one.
Huh?
-
Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
Well it still managed to surprise someone.
Except they were characters...
-
Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
Curse you Tom, I thought it was Annie too.
But yeah, she's proven to be somewhat unstable and a bit too pro-Forest to be a mediator. Not sure that Coyote will like Smith though. Or Ysengrin :smalleek:

Give yourself a cookie, Belril.
Also, how on earth do three people listening intently and hoping to hear their own name individually mishear in exactly the same way? :smallconfused: :smalleek:

That's where you might be getting a little ahead of yourself. :smalltongue:
(Or maybe they wanted to hear their own name but all expected Annie to win, because she's been in extensive contact with both sides, and her mother was the previous medium, and all that.
Or, god forbid, that's humor.)
-
Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
I hope this is in earnest, because Smitty would make the best Medium of the three.
However, he's not a "she". :smalltongue:

Yeah, well, that's Jones. She's just an advisor. The rest of the Court decided Andrew was better for their purposes.
-
Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
A little SLOW on the uptake there, aren't they?
The reactions Monday should be interesting. We'll see if Annie was really surprised they wouldn't chose her. And if she's fine with that. Being the Medium may not be the best job, after all...

Even though they were still taking the class they had come to fully expect Annie would win and thus were fully prepared to offer their congratulations to her. Annie for her part, is actually showing a bit of modesty and dishonesty by saying she was surprised she was chosen since this whole exchanged shows that she came here fully prepared to accept the job.
