Details that I missed before, L-R: Tsukiko blasting away on the battlements of the castle (you can even see her two differently-colored beams of magic), the Heucuva casting a fireball of some kind, Belkar standing on top of his pile of dead hobgoblins, the Eye of Fear and Flame, Roy's body lying in mid-field, and the Monster in the Darkness under his umbrella, chatting with Redcloak.
Wow, that's pretty impressive.
Although I think it's actually "Skullsy" casting the fireball, with the heucuva being the one farther back in the big crowd of hobgoblins.

Re: Things you never noticed II: I never noticed the first thread
Within a space of about an inch, I see two of the decoys, and Belkar. One, left of the mound of dead hobgoblins, is the one with fire coming from it. To the right of the pile, there is a second decoy, not currently doing anything. I don't see any decoys is the large group of hobgoblins, just the MitD and Redcloak. This makes sense, because the decoy marching with Redcloak was Skullsy, who we know is one of the two near Belkar. The third decoy is currently unseen, around the broken wall that is not in the picture.
I believe that is it actually the second decoy, not Skullsy, who is doing the thing with the fireball, because Belkar, who was facing the castle backflipped and landed into Skullsy. So that hints to it being the decoy further to the right being Skullsy.

Re: Things you never noticed II: I never noticed the first thread
Guys, guys.
The one on the left is casting a fireball. Skullsy can do that. Huecuvas -- if I'm not mistaken -- cannot.

Two problems with that, I'm afraid.
1. We don't actually know which way Belkar was facing, and he could have turned around, or the decoy could have moved. (Not very convincing, I know, but bear with me.)
2. The death knight is a dragon-head pancake in the city, so the other decoy is the huecuva, and huecuvas are undead clerics--but fireball is an arcane spell without a similar-looking divine equivalent. Edit: swordsaged

Also, the non-fireball-shooting decoy appears to be in the middle of a large group of hobgoblins. When Belkar confronts Skullsy, he dispatches just two hobgoblins when landing from his flip. Furthermore, when Redcloak originally sent the heucuva forward, he told it to "take a few thousand troops to reinforce your cowardly friend". That also suggests that the Xyklone farther back is the heucuva.

My theory that the fireballing Xyklone is the Heucuva is based off of two bits information I have; 1) heucuvas - or at least this heucuva - can cast fireball-like spells, as shown on Page 2, Panel 2 of this comic. 2) the "long" side of the pile of dead hobgoblins (the side that the anonymous cleric who was stabbed in the eye fell down on) points towards the Xyklone in the back... and it was in the direction of the "long" side that Belkar jumped when he left his pile. :smallwink:

That doesn't look anything like a fireball. The thing in panel #1 of #450 most definitely *was* one, though--the large ball-like thing with a yellow centre and red edges that was being flung couldn't have been anything else, and huecuvas cannot cast those. No ifs, no buts, can't be done.

I don't think they actually go away - you can still see some. I think the missing ones are just covered thanks to his pose.
-
Re: Things you never noticed II: I never noticed the first thread
Well, I meant some of the wounds go away. But you can't seriously look at that panel and the panel before that and tell me the ones that were right there on his head are just blocked by his pose. The one that's clearly exactly the same as his previous pose in every way that's possibly relevant. :smallconfused:

Re: Things you never noticed II: I never noticed the first thread
You're right about the ones on his head. I was thinking of the ones on his right arm - but now that you mention it, they're visible with the arm in the same position during the previous panel.

Re: Things you never noticed II: I never noticed the first thread
In other news, with the latest strip and its close-ups of Malack, I've finally noticed that he actually does have pink eyes. Despite Sabine's insult in 853, until now they always looked yellow to me.

Re: Things you never noticed II: I never noticed the first thread
Anyways, here's another thing I realized a few minutes ago; the castle Dorukan is casting Cloister on in Comic #532, Panel 4 is the same one that Elan summons a picture of in Comic #13, Panel 5.
That's a pretty MAJOR art upgrade there... :smalltongue:

Haha, yeah, I had to go back and compare when #532 came out.

True, it could well be.
However, I have to say that I feel it is more a representation of what Elan would imagine/draw as it is his magical creation. The other is Stick-world reality.

Yeah, it could be that way... although there is the fact that the Dungeon of Dorukan looks pretty much the same in Comic #73, panel 8 and Comic #120, panel 1 as it does in Comic #13, though. :smallwink:
-
Re: Things you never noticed II: I never noticed the first thread
Dungeon looks like wrecked/ruined by Xykon.
-
Re: Things you never noticed II: I never noticed the first thread
That the colour of Taruin's shoes changes along with his armour.

Re: Things you never noticed II: I never noticed the first thread
THE CURE (light wounds) poster in teenage goth Haley's room.

Oh, there's no doubt that you are absolutely right, no. I just love the idea that Elan creates images as badly as he would draw them... :smalltongue:

Re: Things you never noticed II: I never noticed the first thread
Hi everybody, I just noticed that here at the last panel Xykon says that they can also scry in Spanish. Yikyik and Belkar are fighting and there is a voice bubble in Spanish. I translated it to English, to find that it translates to "Hey, I think I just failed to notice something!" I don't know if you've mentioned this already, but I thought it was cool.
-
Re: Things you never noticed II: I never noticed the first thread
Not sure if we can post book-only things here, but if so, there's something I recently noticed for the first time in SoD (very minor spoilers):
Spoiler
Show
When Xykon sees the rift for the first time after Lirian's Gate is destroyed, he remarks that he thought it would be 'swirlier', and we get a couple of demon roaches making Star Trek-esque remarks ("Detecting a disruption in the spacetime continuum, captain!"). Until now, though, I hadn't noticed that the roaches actually get little Trek uniforms for that panel. Kinda neat.
Not a major revelation, admittedly, but no one said it had to be.

Re: Things you never noticed II: I never noticed the first thread
I never noticed how the doctor in this strip is the same as the one who appears practicing here.
-
Re: Things you never noticed II: I never noticed the first thread
I didn't realize that it was Roy jumping out that made the boat tip...I thought maybe they'd drifted under the waterfall.
LOL

Re: Things you never noticed II: I never noticed the first thread
I just noticed that in the second panel here, Belkar says "Queenhilt."

The next was so small I always thought it said "matar" instead of "notar."
Wow.
-
Re: Things you never noticed II: I never noticed the first thread
So, for the benefit of us non-Spanish speakers, can you explain what 'matar' would mean?
-
Re: Things you never noticed II: I never noticed the first thread
"To kill", I think. Which would also make some sense in the context.
