Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
Or maybe Coyote will be fine with these two new people to pick on. And if Annie is dissatisfied, perhaps she'll further Coyote's ultimate plan to destroy the court.
I look forward to the adventures of MIGHTY EYEBROWS BOY and HUGE NOSE GIRL

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
I said it, didn't I? They were fortunate with Reynard because he's so tactful as a wolf. This is what would have happened with stuffed animal Rey. Coyote however is not the sort of guy who passes up an opportunity like this.
Look at that face in the second to last panel. Coyote is thrilled to pieces to have that to make a joke about. How else would they have known he cares about them?

So...Implied sex?
I must admit I like the nicknames though.

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
This is actually one of my favorites in a long while.

Yes? What did you think Rey was snickering about a few updates ago, if not that? They showed up late and blushing, and the guy with literally a wolf's sense of smell started snickering. The same guy who came up with "Does this excite you, girl?"

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
That's one way of out-maneuvering the Court.
When Coyote is faced with a hurdle, he moves the track.

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
Well, the only way to have more fitting representatives would be to have Kat represent the court, and nobody thought of that (in the comic, anyway, I'm sure fans were all over that).

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
Wow. Citizen of the forest. I wonder if Antimony is more aware of how dangerous that is. Did her encounter with the binding and Angry Ysengrin sway her? Or the creepy danger of Coyote's tooth? Or does her desire to be allowed to make trips to the forest outweigh that?
More importantly, will Antimony live in the forest? Will Kat & Friends be able to visit her?
THESE ARE THE QUESTIONS I HAVE.

Like remove Ysengrin from his role of the Forest's Medium and appoint Annie in his place. Meaning Smitty, Parley, and Annie will HAVE to visit the Forest together in the future, and she'll still be in the loop...
After all, how could the Court stop him from doing that?
It's also possible he'll accept this but continue insisting Annie visit him to tell him stories.

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
I wonder how Annie is meant to represent the interests of the Forest.
Presumably she'll have to move there, but even then... all of her friends live in the Court, and she herself has lived there for years. Sure, she loves the Forest, and seems to have friends there as well, but I still feel she's too moulded by the court to be truly useful in representing the Forest.
Still, none of that matters if Coyote just came up with it to mess with the Court's plans.
One wonders if it shows something of an attitude on Coyote's part that dialogue between the Forest and the Court is useless. Whatever plans he has may be on an altogether grander scale.

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
Walk away Annie. Therin lies the way of pain.

Thank you, thank you, Moxana points accepted. This does work against my reputation of being constantly WRONG in my predictions, but I will endure. Gaman!
The question is, will Annie accept this? It would seem a no brainer, but she might be hesitant to upset Ysengrin, all things considered. And if she's been reading The Prince she might wonder if this is exactly what the Headmaster was trying to bring about, and if saying "Yes" might lead them all into the Court's trap. And there would be the question of what the Forest medium is supposed to DO that might give her pause...
It would be good if she could take a moment to consult with Jones. But I don't think that's possible. At the very least, though, this should make her feel better and less like the rug has been yanked out from under her.

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
As mirror to Huge Nose Girl, Annie's Protector will be Coyote's cousin, Renard, already resident at the Court. This gives Renard diplomatic immunity from all the Court's petty legalistic machinations. If Annie turns down the Forest's medium position, it exposes Renard to recapture and imprisonment.

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
...taking bets Mr. HeadMaster predicted this reaction, and is doing it to try and get both mediums under his sphere of influence?
-
Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
I can't help but wonder if the Headmaster knew somehow what Coyote's reaction was going to be - and didn't tell Jones. (She DID say that he was keeping back information from her...). :smallconfused:

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
Wow, that's a twist I didn't see coming.
Also, Ysengrin as the Forest medium? It never even occurred to me that this was the case. He seems the worst possible choice for that role.

Which is probably why Coyote chose him.

Depends what you're trying to accomplish by choosing someone to fill the role. I doubt that Coyote's goal is smooth and peaceful coexistence with the Court.

Actually, it might be. Coyote has said he only opened the Chasm and created the Annan Waters because he saw the Court trying to subjugate the animals of the Forest. He might be perfectly happy if both sides could live in peace, as it would give him opportunity to bother more people. But the Court has been demonstrating bad faith for a while now - the attempt to lure Rey into the Court, their experiments with etheric energy - and if the other side is hostile, you might want your negotiator to be someone even more hostile and suspicious to make sure they don't see weakness...
Or, if the opportunity arises, to appoint someone who has an 'in' on the other side, but is sympathetic to you.

Leatherbag seems less bored now.

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
I still wanna know more about the headmaster, he's an odd character. :smallconfused:

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
Good old Smitty. I hope Carver says yes, because the story must continue.
-
Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
Way to step up, Smitface!
Jones didn't do too bad, either.
Ysengrin doesn't seem too broken up about losing his job. It might be he didn't like being the Forest's Medium and having to deal with, you know, humans...
Coyote really needs to tell Annie about Ys' edited memories. Or she might think the big guy is trying to atone for his attack by promising he won't do it again.

This does beg the question - did the Headmaster know Smitty would react this way, or did he make a miscalculation by predicting Smitty's actions based on his -past- behavior, not what's become of him after all the exposure to various interesting personages thanks to Annie ... and his relationship with George.

Well, I'm not saying he wants open warfare, either. But smooth and peaceful coexistence? He'd get bored in a week, tops! Appointing someone like Ysengrin to do the diplomacy guarantees hilarity, at least.
In other news, go Smitty! And George in the background bein' all proud of her man.
-
Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
I'm going to say this was NOT the Headmaster's plan. He probably just didn't trust Annie to have the Court's best interest at heart so he went with Smitty. Or maybe he got a call from Annie's Father who wanted his daughter kept away from all that magic nonsense.
-
Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
Smitty was a good choice. Look at him, he practically radiates authority. You'd almost think he's been the medium for ages the way he seems so matter of fact about it.
Who is that man in the final panel with Annie? :smalltongue:
-
Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 3: Mystery Solved!
I honestly didn't expect this to turn out that way.
Also, George's expression in the third-to-last panel is priceless.

No idea, but it seems like even he's confused about it. Look at all the question marks :smalltongue::smallwink:
