Re: [Steam]-y Thread 30: Throwing titles out the window!
As a small question:
Does anybody here still sell keys? (No prices, we can discuss that directly through Steam)
Crates? (Naughty and Nice)
And also: What games would you recommend for me to buy this Holiday Steam Sale? (My interests areclose to this: I like Torchlight, TBoI, Cthulhu Saves The World, Terraria, Psychonauts, Rochard, Bastion, Vessel.)

Re: [Steam]-y Thread 30: Throwing titles out the window!
Psychonauts is good and so are borderlands 2 and dishonored.
-
Re: [Steam]-y Thread 30: Throwing titles out the window!
Do I have anything of value that would interest someone in swapping for Mirror's Edge? I'd love to revisit that.

I would recommend Cave Story+. Great gameplay, awesome soundtrack, and some pretty memorable characters.

My friend who played it described it as playing similarly to Zelda, in his experience (or God of War, but I haven't played that one), with timed button-mashing only in select, optional instances. Does that sound about right?

I already have BL2 and Psychonauts. Dishonored, no. I was doubting if I really wanted it. But this pushes me forward.

I have it as well. Though I haven't played it as much. I should re-install it and play. Thanks!

It's a little short but has decent replay value, its stealth is really really good and the tools and tricks you are given make for some excellent fun.

How cruel.
This game nearly ruined the franchise for me, it was that aweful. It was only after much cajoling and bribery that people convinced me to try Sands, which was much better, and The bad taste I still have from 08 is preventing me from playing any other game in the franchise. (But I played Sands, are you happy now?)
Cons of the game:
No difficulty, it is impossible to die or be inconvenienced in any real way.
Quick time event atmosphere. The game is essentially just QTE after QTE.
Even the combat. Especially the combat.
The worst story I ever encountered in 30 years of gaming.
Backtracking. A Lot. Game might be 7 hours long, but that's only from 6.5 hours of going back to old areas.
Pros.
It is visually stunning.
So, IMHO, the best way to enjoy this game is to sit behind the person playing it and look at all the pretty scenery, while the poor sap who is playing it gets bored out of his skull.

- Best platformer in a very, very long time
- Good length for the price you can buy it at.
- Just because it's easy doesn't mean it's boring.
- Excellent presentation; graphics, music, voice acting, sound design, animation, etc.
- Won't be getting a sequel.
It was supposed to reboot the PoP franchise, and prove Ubisoft could pull off a good platformer. Instead they chose to give the throwaway game Assassin's Creed a sequel- the rest is (literally) history.

The inability to be challenged by the game does make it boring.:smallconfused:
I bought it along with an Xbox 360 back when I was making my first console choice that I was buying for myself, and the game was SO BAD that I took it back and shelled out the extra for a PS3. The 360 had been a joint purchase, so my friend who I had bought it with at the time had to agree and it was a unanimous decision despite the 200 dollar price difference at the time.
I heartily suggest that no one EVER buy this game.

This was a good thing? That it killed the franchise? Maybe not playing the other games was a good idea.
Also, it was supposed to be a platformer? Huh. I thought you could fall in platformers.
:smallamused:
In all seriousness, I agree with trisc on some of his points. The game was really well presented, if you take out the gameplay and the script. They polished the turd really well.

Opinions, opinions. I played it to unwind after a stressful week, and loved how I didn't have to shriek in anger at my television. My little cousin and (non-gamer) sister were able to enjoy.
You may not like it, but it appealed to a casual crowd quite nicely.

Well, it killed the hope for a rebooted series, but the Sands of Time Trilogy got The Forgotten Sands in 2010. Assassin's Creed really was the spiritual successor.
As for the platforming, you could fall. Then you got put back to where you last stood on balanced ground, and got to try again. It's a lot like Meat Boy, in that respect.

Well, too late.:smallwink: I think for $2.5 a game, its worth trying it out. Also, I even remember toonami analyzing it way back when and I think they gave it a 7 or 8 out of 10, so...

I just finished playing The Walking Dead. Easiest game I have played in years.
Also the best game I have played EVER. Easy doesn't have to equal boring, if other elements of the game can carry it.

Oh no no no no. Super Meat Boy puts you back at the beginning of the level. Period. It is also hair ripplingly difficult. Another one of the best games I have ever played, too.

Re: [Steam]-y Thread 30: Throwing titles out the window!
I hate steam for two main reasons.
firstly, steam technically owns the game, so if you are banned from steam, you lose all your games. Plus, you cannot sell or buy used games, because the CD key can never be used again.
Secondly, you are forced to have an internet connection, which costs money. So in addition to having to pay money for the game, you have to pay money for the internet. Also, if you can never access the internet, you cannot install new games, and cannot set steam to offline mode because you need an internet connection initially to do that.

Walking Dead was a social, and psychologically driven game but even it's action points had the ability to lose if you simply didn't preform. It also challenged you EMOTIONALLY with difficult decisions, and the lack of ability to take time and consider them due to their real time nature.
I accidentally left the Prince of Persia on over night during a boss fight, and came back to find that nothing had happened, there is actually nothing that can cause you to be slightly troubled, at all, ever. "The Prince" felt like a copy paste of any other dashing rogue that was in the media at the time, and it adhered to a droll, unchanging, area layout that was basically just different environments with a near identical map layout.
The animations were nice because they were all scripted movements if you're referring to the combat you could never fail, or the story in which you could do no wrong.
Comparing the two is honestly kind of offensive.

Well are you planning on getting banned?
Besides I'll glady accept those things to be able to buy all my games at half price normally and with a 95% or higher discount during a sale. ( New games in a brick and mortar store where I live cost around 100-150$ while on steam they cost 50$).

yes, I'd say so. Zelda + God of War is exactly how I'd describe it.
it's just that combat is mostly involves one button (with adjustments for direction, timing, and throwing in other attacks), so you press that button a lot.

Exactly, at that price, there's not really much risk (unless you wanted to buy a soda from a vending machine later, in which case you're outta luck).

True, but I wouldn't introduce my girlfriend to video games through SMB. I'd start with Minecraft and Prince of Persia. Easy to explain, easy to play, fun all-around.
On another note, Amazon has Dead Island GOTY for $6, and Dungeon Defenders for $2.50. If you wanted to buy them on Steam, save yourself a good chunk of cash and get them through Amazon (they include Steam keys).

Good chunk meaning 2.03$? :smallconfused:

When you're 16 and your only source of money to buy things online is gift cards, any amount of money is a "good chunk". :smalltongue:
Kidding, of course, but I wanted to note Amazon has a better deal.
