Yeah, it'll say "Quit Steam" or "Play Offline", and play offline 90% of the time works for me.
-
Re: [Steam]-y Thread 30: Throwing titles out the window!
Huh, never worked for me before. Maybe I'll try it again some time.
-
Re: [Steam]-y Thread 30: Throwing titles out the window!
It didn't use to work 99% of the time, it used to be you had to be online then switch to offline, but thats been fixed, iirc. I think now you still have to launch the game at least once to get it working offlin - that information may be out dated to now. But for those that do have the problem there is/was a solution that involves changing some of the steam .ini s. Its been a year+ since I needed it though, so I have no idea where it would be except maybe lingering somewhere on the steam forums.

No. Just - no. Paradox must learn players don't want ****ty 5$ DLCs. Songs are fine, mini-expansions are fine (although Paradox used to release full expansions for less...), but sprite packs and absurd one-off scenarios, something the modders provide just fine, should either be in game or called blatant cash grab -.-

Hey, Paradox is free to publish whatever they want. I myself didn't get the DLC, since I dislike ahistorical scenarios.

Aaaw, I just went to check, seems they fixed it. :(
At least here in NA, I guess.
...Skyrim's never going under 50% off, is it? :smallfrown:

To be fair, that's more a problem with really awful internet providers than Steam. Admittedly, being able to reconfigure steam's downloads would be nice.
Also, I'm reasonably certain that Steam only polices its online games. I've used cheat programs extensively in Just Cause 2 with no repercussions.
@Dishonored: I noticed that the game tracks never being seen at all, but I'm curious as to precisely what that changes.

At least for a couple of years, yeah...
Though at least it's not only 33% off like the first sale it featured in, right?

Odd. Because steam won't open in offline mode for me. If itt has that option and I click "open in offline mode" an error pops up that says "Unable to validate". I have to set it to offline mode when I'm online.
Although, that's not much of an issue. Since I'm on a laptop, I set it to offline mode whenever I'm traveling just in case theres no chance to connect to the internet.

Re: [Steam]-y Thread 30: Throwing titles out the window!
FYI, Morrowind and Oblivion are on 75% flash sale for the next few hours...
-
Re: [Steam]-y Thread 30: Throwing titles out the window!
I experience problems with offline mode only when I don't properly quit steam, such as letting my computer close it when I shut down. Validating files for offline play seems to be a normal part of steam closing itself.
And an a more festive note: I'd been waiting pretty much all year for Mass Effect 2 to go on sale! I wouldn't say it's the best christmas present I've gotten, but it's making me pretty happy!
(edit: I'm in Australia, so it's already christmas here)

Re: [Steam]-y Thread 30: Throwing titles out the window!
Are any of Mass Effect 2 DLCs on sale?

Not as far as I am aware. The only DLC I liked was Kasumi... Liara's wasn't bad either. Arrival was pretty disappointing, and the direction they went in Arrival was basically cut and retconned when ME3 released.

Arrival is actually necessary to the ME3 canon. Spoiler
Show
It begins with the trial Hackett informed Shepard about at the end of the DLC, under which charges were filed due to Shepard's actions during the DLC.

Yeah, I know. Except there was apparently supposed to be a whole trial scene that ended up getting dropped. Then we got the awkwardly directed opening scene instead.

So, my friend actually bought The War Z, and I can't help but laugh at him.
Though I think that the issue with the name and the copyright is typical bull**** major media companies messing about with copyright law.

You can submit a ticket to get a refund with Steam Support. They'll do it, too.

As far as I know, the game was withdrawn from sale because it's incomplete and bug-ridden, not because of any copyright issues with the name.

As well as the fact that the devs were a bunch of jerks who mistreated their fans, insulted them, and scammed them. The whole game was a pile of junk, and was marketed as a DayZ rival.

This is true, but then a bit later there was a trademark issue dragged up as well.

By Jove, what is this?
I just logged in to Steam, and than I had to log in again to vote in the Store. :smalleek:

Steam sometimes acts up and doesn't recognise your PC, even though you already logged in and are actually using the Steam browser to... yeah, you get the picture. Something to do with different IPs or different configurations, I reckon, since I had that problem on and off some time back.

Re: [Steam]-y Thread 30: Throwing titles out the window!
I believe it is even possible to download a steam game, back it up on a flash drive and then install it on a computer that doesn't have internet, but I haven't tested it yet. Has anyone?

Seeing as how I was able to copy-paste Jagged Alliance 2 on another folder and patch it to 1.13 and play it without even starting up Steam, that might be possible.

That only works for certain games. (Usually non-steamwork based games or old games which have been ported over to Steam. AI War is one such game.)
I haven't tried actually installing a game without connection though, but I am reasonably certain Steam needs an internet connection to verify the game files and download any that might be missing. Need to investigate this further.

Happens a lot if you log into Steam with different computers too. I get that message pretty often since I'm often logging in on my desktop and laptop.

Re: [Steam]-y Thread 30: Throwing titles out the window!
So, the TF2 Holiday pack is at 66% off right now and for about 6 more hours... too bad it only includes 3 items; some of the other holiday stuff looked pretty neat.
Anyhow, merry Christmas, folks.

There was a TF2 pack? What was in it, I totally missed that.
And merry Christmas, too
