I much prefer our own hazing/baptism ceremony with hot drinks, biscuits and vary levels of physical embraces according to taste. It creates a much more positive atmosphere.
That sounds very very very not fun. I really hope we do not have it in Denmark, I could barely take the verbal bullying as a child, I do not want to be forced to panic (Ridicule is not fun for me). ._.

I like your idea, it sounds fun. Particularly the biscuits, I like biscuits.

I'd rather initiate newbies by having them put their names and addresses on an email list and giving them cookies. Seems much more friendly.
I had a response about how that would be both illegal and about seven orders of magnitude less mature than a kindergarten bully, but I think I will just stay far away from where that happens. I would never even try nor probably be viable to join such a group, but that they would do something on that level for fun scares me deeply. Eep. ._.
Email lists and cookies are much better in my mind too.

Just kidding. You can still have some cookies, though they aren't as good as they could be if you were tied down.
Force-feeding someone can actually be lethal, at least by the means they used against 19th century suffragists. That aside, I do want cookies!

Ah, I see. I've only heard of that in the context of weird American college houses that have "hazing", I never heard "baptism" as a term for it. "Baptism" is what you do to give a baby a name and a place in the Catholic church (this also applies to both adults and other Christian churches, as far as I know).
To be honest, in that case, it's not so bad. They shouldn't be using crossdressing as some <<awful tool of humiliation because ew, nonconformity to the gendernormative code is so disgusting and wrong>>. I think there are better ways of going about it, certainly, but I don't object to "You are not allowed have someone crossdress to laugh at them" as much as I would to "You are not allowed to express yourself through crossdressing".

:smallsigh: I've been feeling very bipolar recently (I'm not actually bipolar, but...you'll see what I mean). It seems like every time I do something that actually makes me feel good, I feel great while I'm doing it, but then the next couple days are spent almost-crying about how unfair it is that something that simple has to be so hard.
As an example: On Friday night, I went to my friends' game night wearing my new skinny jeans, and after we had broken up for the night, I did some limited modeling with some of my other new purchases for one of my girl friends. It was a lot of fun, and I've rarely been that happy about being me.
However, once we had said our good nights and I was back in my car ready to drive home...well, I'm sure you get the idea. I just started coming out of that haze this morning on my way to work :smallfrown: . Having every couple hours of happiness followed by days of melancholy is no fun at all.
Also, as an aside, I hate my stupid broad shoulders. They're stupidly broad.
...Hmm...Well, on the brighter side, I talked to my sister on Saturday night, and (as predicted), she was perfectly fine  . So there's that!
~Phoenix~
*hugs*
I know that feeling.
I had my aunt cut my hair after I came out to her, and now if I get it to fall just right it looks pretty feminine. But it keeps falling out of place and now I can't get it back again and all I can see is how horrifyingly male my hairline is. That and I have no one around to teach me all the little tricks of hair styling, which I suppose will be my next youtube research project. Oh and I had to fend off the first inquisition from my mother about the therapist bills since I finally decided to try to get my parents' insurance to cover them. It just feels like everything is fighting me, so that two small steps become a mile. I spent most of yesterday curled into a miserable ball instead of doing the reading and papers that are piling up.
Perhaps the answer is just to do as much of the things that give happiness so the melancholy never has a chance to settle in? That's probably not a practical solution though, even though it is the best one.
I'm glad that your sister was fine with it, more support, especially people close to you, is always nice. Also, hooray new clothes!

Yeah, with that added information it seems to me like the sexual assault was a part of the baptism, mixed with the cross-dressing. I remember in middle school we heard a lot of baseless and apocryphal stories about seniors hazing incoming freshmen by making them walk ten feet with a pickle between their ass cheeks, and I imagine that weird stuff like that is what the school is trying to avoid with the ban, but it's really hard to say with so few details.

I have the beginnings of a thinning hairline and my beard isn't even done coming in yet. But at least I got rid of my hair on my own terms, so it's not quite as painful as it could have been.
(I'm jealous of my dad. He's fifty and his hair has thinned a little but it's still pretty thick and mostly dark. My hair probably won't grey for a long time either, but I should be bald by thirty.)

Re: LGBTAitP #28: Come Taste the Rainbow!
@Hazing: It's completely voluntary and not required to join a student society. Besides, our student society's are just associated with what courses you are taking; like mine is one for Maths and Physics. And you're allowed to bail out at any time.
Also the sexual assault wasn't committed by people involved in the hazing itself, it was done by a group of 'allochtonen', which is a Dutch word for immigrants.

Re: LGBTAitP #28: Come Taste the Rainbow!
Yeah that's weird. I have no idea. There's a musicians' fraternity at my school; I'm not a member because I don't want to pay for the privilege to be a stagehand, but I know some people in it and it seems like a cool thing in general.

Re: LGBTAitP #28: Come Taste the Rainbow!
I think I'm finally done with reddit by the way; remember the 'transsexism' thing I mentioned? I've been (trying to) educate people in that thread quite a bit and was quite happy with some of the discussion I had. When I woke up earlier almost all my posts where heavily downvoted, even ones that were just about respecting people's identities. Turns out there had been an invasion from r/SRD (Subreddit Drama, basically a subreddit dedicated to pointing out 'drama' in other subreddits) and the thread about in in SRD was filled with denial of discrimination and making fun of the notion of cissexism and all that and it's just, what sort of people go out of their way to do this? Crap like this is why I get tired of trying to educate people. :/

From what I hear Reddit has a massive culture of explaining and justifying bigotry and I've seen nothing to disprove that.

I'm saying I like girls :smallsigh: (I was trying to be a little bit more subtle about it...), and it was the point of comparing sexuality to right- and left handedness (right referring to heterosexual, left to homosexual, and ambidextrous (as in, the ability to use both hands at any given task (or most fo them anyway) would logically refer to bisexual). Anyway, it was a silly notion anyway.

Yeah, those moments are really sucky. It's sorta like the more things go well the worse the downy moments are? Like, my dysphoria became more noticeable at the very least once I understood it and has been getting more stingy in bad moments.
One thing that helps is really holding onto those positive moments and using them as a little flame inside to drive away the darkness.

Aw. :c
I'm sorry to hear it's being so struggle-y. Do your parents know about you being a girl? Also hear you on the hair thing. I think I'm pretty lucky with my hairline itself, but I'm constantly fiddling with it so it falls in the one way it look good and femme-y.

Just to clarify, jokes aside, it wasn't "left = gay right = straight" or anything. It was "homosexuality is as natural as beig left handed, not the 'norm', but certainly not a lifestyle or a choice or something to punish someone for".

well, on a tangent, left handed people were thought to have been in league with the devil and hunted down for it (or rehabilitated by nuns and monks into writing right if you know what I mean). so that should give us good hopes for the future (couple of hundred years or something).

Update with regards to the banning of crossdressing; the university got a strong reaction back form a lot of sources, including several big politicians about how this sends a completely wrong message and that the university should send a clear message about how they made a mistake. So that's pretty neat in the end.

Thanks  . It is a good idea, but like you said, not exactly practical. I basically get Friday nights and every other Wednesday. Which isn't nearly enough.
But I'm glad your aunt took things so well, and that you had fun doing some hair styling! I'm trying to grow mine out right now, but it wants to grow down in front o fmy face instead of down in the back. Which is really strange and awkward.

That's it exactly. When I didn't know who I was, or before I'd tried things out and realized how perfectly they fit, the down moments were just little naggings. Now that I've figured all that stuff out though, every little step backwards feels horrible.
But keeping the happy moments as a flame to keep away the darkness is what I'm trying to do. A lot of my spare brainpower is spent on planning for the next time I get together with my friends, and what I'll wear, and what I'll say. It's something to look forward to in the darker moments.

You know, I am really getting tired of the internet in general.
I mean, there are folks like you guys (and gals), that are awesome. You are wonderful beautiful people who have touched me in ways (and places) I didn't think possible anymore.
But then there are just idiots everywhere who think that just because this is the internet, and no one really knows who you are you can say and do whatever you want.
And occasionally people know exactly who you are and it makes the problems of bullying and hat even worse because now its in your home. Where can you go to escape anymore?
Why does anonymity bring out the worst of us?:smallfurious:

Okay. I still object to the idea of crossdressing being used as a tool to make someone seem ridiculous, but it's good that the whole thing is in good fun rather than people being cruel to newbies.
ALSO! I think it's so cool that "allochtonen" means immigrants, because in geology, "allochtanous" describes a terrain of rocks that wasn't deposited where it is but has been pushed there by geological activity! The opposite is "autochtanous", where rocks are still found where they were deposited.

It is good to hear baptisms there are generally in good fun. I'm used to hearing about US frat hazing horror stories.
But that crossdressing is for humiliation is kind of unhappy.

ALSO! I think it's so cool that "allochtonen" means immigrants, because in geology, "allochtanous" describes a terrain of rocks that wasn't deposited where it is but has been pushed there by geological activity! The opposite is "autochtanous", where rocks are still found where they were deposited.
Same etymology, no doubt. Etymology is really neat. Handy, too, for figuring out what words mean.

Depends. I know I'm less polite and open to people IRL. The first part is taken care of by this forum's rules. As for the second, that's because we're all mutually anonymous, so I can afford speaking my true mind, have more control over the subject being discussed, and just walk away when someone says something I don't agree with. It's odd, but I grow to dislike people much faster when I have to put up with opinions I dislike in a regular basis. :smallamused:
I guess I have more decency than the average. I know you're all real persons and have no reason to assume you're the kinds of people I purposefully avoid, so I am civil. That's normal. Perhaps I'm better-socialized than most people on the Internet, although I certainly see the appeal of embracing the Great Internet F[ragBag] Theory.

I really don't know. Maybe it was just the way I was raised, or maybe it's something intrinsic in my mindset, but I can't help but put myself in everyone else's shoes, and if I would see my words or actions causing someone harm, I won't do it. That's why I avoid those infamously bad places - I don't want to deal with people who act like that.
At least you can take solice in the fact that not everybody acts like that when given anonymity  . Some of us choose to remain decent human beings.
