Aernis seems like she might be a bit calmed by that, though the twitching and soft fear noises continue.
She snuggles closer, pressing her front to her friend's back and whispering comfortingly.
That helps still more, at least judging by the fact that the shivering slows, and Aernis mostly stops whimpering, though it doesn't seem to have actually stopped her from having a nightmare, just lessened the intensity of it.
She reaches to give her hand a gentle squeeze.
At which, finally, she wakes up, and goes to roll over so she can cling to Carrie, shaking.
The scrawny girl hugs back.
Shhh, shhh, it's okay.
Aernis nods weakly, burying her face in Carrie's shoulder; the winged girl might notice said shoulder starting to grow wet soon afterward.
Carrie pulls the covers closer over them and wraps them both in her wings, trying to use the contact and body warmth to comfort her fellow unfortunate.
After a while, the shaking slows, then finally stops, as do the tears.
"Thanks..."
Carrie rubs her back.
Any time.
Try to sleep, you need the rest.
Aernis smiles weakly, and shakes her head.
"Don' like sleeping. Got enough trouble with memories when 'm awake..."
Carrie frowns and snuggles closer to the (older?) girl, rubbing her back and kissing her cheeks and forehead gently.
Sleep deprivation makes stuff worse. Don' worry, I'm here...
(Depends. How old is Carrie in this?)
Aernis nestles against her, and nods.
"Alrigh'... Don' bother trying to let me stay asleep next time, though, 'kay?
And thanks f'r being here f'r me..."
((Probably 17-18?))
Carrie kisses her cheek again and tries to get her back to sleep.
((Karyana's around the same age she is, then; probably 19 at most.))
Aernis smiles, and kisses Carrie's cheek as well, slowly dozing off again; she'll probably have at least one more nightmare, maybe two, before morning though it's up to you if we play that out or handwave it.
Carrie is snuggled close, possibly with "Aernis"'s head on her chest to enjoy the comforting sound of her heartbeat.
"Aernis" is perfectly happy with that.
Fortunately, the next nightmare is less severe, startling her awake rather than keeping her in it; while she does jolt, she simply snuggles closer and listens to the other girl's heartbeat, which, unless Carrie wakes up somewhere during this process, will be sufficient to let her drift off again.
She'll be fine til morning, when she quietly wakes to watch her friend.
"Aernis", as it turns out, is much prettier when she's sleeping; she's still rather heavily scarred, but her face loses the feral, hunted, quality it has when she's awake.
In any case, unless Carrie does something other than watch her first, the scarred girl will slowly start to wake after a few minutes.
Carrie goes to gently kiss her in her sleep...
Aernis stiffens for a moment, starting awake, though when she sees who it is, she relaxes again, returning the kiss, if Carrie's reaction to her sudden awakening is such to allow that.
She smiles gently. "Morning, Aernis..."
She sits up a bit. "Feeling ok?"
Aernis smiles back, and nods, sitting up as well. "Morning, Carrie... And I'm doing quite well, all things considered. You?"
"I'm good... it's nice to be with someone."
She slips out of bed to dress.
"Aernis" nods again, staying in bed so that Carrie has more room, and watching the other girl dress.
"That it is..."
She pauses for a moment, looking somewhat worried.
"Also, I have something to tell you, when you're done there..."
Carrie frowns and comes back over, dressed, and tries to look Karyana over.
"What is it? Are you hurt somewhere? Sick? Pregnant?"
Karyana shakes her head, frowning as well.
"Not really sick or hurt, no, and I don't think pregnant... But I wanted to tell you that Aernis isn't actually my name, just something I use when I have to deal with people, or the memories get too bad."
Carrie still has her gloves on, by the way.
She sits down with her friend and rubs her back.
"Oh... what's your real name, then?"
*nods*
I was guessing that, since she wasn't, y'know, horribly maiming Karyana any worse than she already has been. :smalltongue:
Karyana smiles somewhat, seeming relieved, and apparently enjoying the backrub.
"Karyana cas Timoliir kynet Loarna."
"... That is such a pretty name. So much nicer than Carrion..."
She tries to help her dress, and will let Karyana hold her hand.
