"I see..." comes the rather simplistic reply. It's clear enough to Refuge that Dorata doesn't feel inclined to speak on the subject further and thus it would be rude to pry.
By this time his food has ran out too...
"Speaking with you has been a pleasure, my lady, but now I should be taking my leave. My siblings have need of my aid."
Or at least one of them does.
Some guy is trying to get out of a hellhole and Requiem would rather like Refuge's help in getting said guy out.
The wyrmling pulls out a few silver coins from... somewhere... and places them on the table to pay for his noms.
"If you will excuse me..."
Down from the table he hops and out the door he bounds!
Dorota undeadtimes in the teahouse once more. She really does like the place, so she'll probably be coming here quite often after work.
Saul is here, reading that book he usually carries by his side.
Because characters sitting around in silence are boring, Dorota walks over to the curious-looking man. Mind if I sit here, sir?
"Certainly." Saul says, motioning to the seat across from him.
Dorota sits down there. It's a nice place, isn't it? Not as loud as Trog's Tavern.
"It is a nice place, though I do not believe I have been to Trog's." Saul closes his book, the Holy Word of Terenti, if Dorota looks.
"I'm Saul."
I'm Dorota Brońska, pleased to meet you. Trog's Tavern is the most popular estabilishment here. It's nice, but loud. You can meet interesting people there, however. Like that charming man she met earlier.
"Likewise. I think I have heard of Trog's, though I myself have only been to the Black Dragon Den. Regardless, meeting people is rather important."
It is. And some of the people you meet here are... original. That's putting it mildly.
Saul takes a sip of tea. Yay, tea!
"So, what is it that you do here Dorota?"
I'm an alchemist and I work in Erin's Emporium. I come here to relax after work. What about you?
"I am the High Priest of Terenti, responsible for building his church on this world. Have you considered a higher calling for your life Dorota?"
Dorota shakes her head slowly. No... I did convert once in my life, though. But it has never occured to be to become a priest.
"I'm not referring to priesthood. Just worship in and of itself, is a higher calling. To whom did you convert the one time?" Saul asks.
Well, I was raised in the faith of Perun, the god of sun, thunder and fire, whose monotheistic religon is the dominant one in my homeland. After leaving my home to become an alchemist, I converted to the faith of Weles, a god of underworld and magic belonging to the pantheon known as the Old Trinity, Dorota explains.
"Underworld and magic, hmm?" Dorota doesn't seem the type, even as an alchemist.
"What is the Old Trinity?"
The Old Trinity is comprised of Weles as well as Marzanna, who is a goddess of death and winter, and Jarowit, who is a god of war. They're called "Old Trinity" because they were worshipped long before Perun, along with other deities who are now all but forgotten. Some historians claim Perun was worshipped along with all other gods back then, before his priesthood subjugated all others.
"I see. I take it the subjugation was not a pretty one?" You never know. Sometimes, just sometimes, it's a bloodless coup.
I don't know, really. Whatever happened back then, it's ancient history. The records from those times are somewhat vague. She shakes her head.
"Understandable."
He just can't imagine any god of war going down without a fight. :smalltongue:
Saul sips his tea.
That's quite a good guess, only the gods themselves weren't involved. Violence or the lack of it was perpetuated solely between their mortal worshippers.
How about you, sir? What sort of deity do you serve?
"Terenti does not claim domains as many gods around here do. He teaches redemption through following the seven virtues. Those who repent and wash away their sin will be spared in the great cleansing, and granted an eternity in paradise. Would you be interested in eternal paradise?"
Talk about a leading question. :smalltongue:
I suppose I would, yes, Dorota says skeptically. But I've always been cautions in matters of religion.
"Prudence is wise." Dorota's already half way there!
"Here, let me give you a small book." Saul pulls out of his robes... indeed, a small book. It's basically just excerpts from the big one he was reading earlier. He offers her the condensed version.
"Take your time, but be wary. The cleansing could occur at any time. I'd hate to see you fall with it."
Dorota accepts the book. Whether or not she'll read it... we shall see. I will give it some consideration. I admit, most deities in the Nexus don't have a way of earning respect.
"Terenti is not in the Nexus, as far as I'm aware. Last I talked to him, he was eliminating space pirates that had been attacking unprotected planets in universe delta 5648."
What I meant that the deities in the Nexus... well, they just act like very powerful people. They walk around and exercies their powers freely, often for selfish needs. It's not the way a deity should behave, wouldn't you say?
"Ah. Yes, it is fairly deplorable. Terenti is not particularly fond of the many false Nexus deities. I have only had an opportunity to meet one who claimed to be one. It was not my most pleasant encounter." Since the guy's name was Vice. :smalltongue:
