Re: [NEXUS] MagCave V: Tilt Your Head, and the Thread Number and Colon Look Like a Fa
[The Lime Room]
"No I-I-I know there is.. You're.. I think.. I think.. Yeah that might be good. But I'm not tired so.. Well, not really but.." Riss was obviously shaken by whatever it was she had seen. I.. I think Misha's right though. If something is here then Imp will probably take care of it. I think I need some time away from here. Get something to drink and get rid of this headache at least. It was difficult to slow her breathing, though. And walking felt like there were tiny pins in her joints, leading to a slight limp... In fact, why were the lights so bright anyway? Even the reflection stung to look at. "I... I don't feel well." she murmured, cradling her head in her hands.
At least Riss seemed willing to leave now although her gait was a bit unstable. Misha might find herself as being used as support in short order and, if so, there would be a distinct lack of that electric sensation now. In fact, the muse's grip would be a little weak and definitely more than a little twitchy.

Re: [NEXUS] MagCave V: Tilt Your Head, and the Thread Number and Colon Look Like a Fa
The Lime Room -> Riss' Quarters
Misha is quick to offer her services as a support, walking somewhat bowlegged so she can properly sling Riss' arm over her shoulder and support her back with one of her own.
"That's easy enough to see silly. Now let's get you onto your bed so you can rest, okay?" She's trying to keep her tone light, but it's obvious to anyone with ears that Misha is far past worried by now. She's figured out from the lack of golden eyes, melodic voice, and spiny hair that Riss is suffering some sort of after-effect of the apples she gorged herself on, but how severe it will be or how long it could last is far beyond her knowledge.
If it goes on too long, she might have to track down Terrie and get the information out of her, assuming she can find someone to take care of Riss in her stead.
And assuming she can overcome her worry to leave Riss' side for an instant.

Re: [NEXUS] MagCave V: Tilt Your Head, and the Thread Number and Colon Look Like a Fa
[Riss' Quarters]
The lights in the entry room would be quite low so as to not bother the sleeping pixie inside and Archimedes didn't seem to be inclined to make any noise. Unless Misha felt particularly vindictive and wished to take it out on Mimi or was particularly noisy, it was doubtful that either party would be very aware of the other.
Should nothing be a deterrent, however, then it would be presumable that the dividing 'wall' would be closing up behind the two once they crossed the threshold. Riss was clearly not up to walking on her own, though, as her stability had gradually degraded over the trip from her workshop. If anything, Misha might very well be almost carrying her rather than simply supporting her by now. "Sorry. Think I'll sit down for a bit." the muse rasped, her words forced and cracking. Unfortunately, it seemed the motor control needed for such an action was something just out of the muse's reach as she ended up simply tumbling forward onto the mattress. "Oh.. Well.. This works." she said, wincing.
..I think I'll just stay here for a bit. Don't feel like moving or.. Ow.. Nope, not gonna be moving right now. Why does every joint feel like my bones are rubbing against each other? I had the damn skeleton replaced so I wouldn't feel this and.. Mmmmh... Stupid nerve endings telling me something's wrong when it isn't. At least the feedback sound is gone but... No, now there's just this ringing andwhatwasthat? Riss tried to push herself up and follow the strange whispy thing but her protesting joints resulted in only a bit of motion before giving out on her. "I think it's in here." she said. Oh come on, even the roots of my teeth hurt. What the heck is this?

Re: [NEXUS] MagCave V: Tilt Your Head, and the Thread Number and Colon Look Like a Fa
Riss' Quarters
Misha will attempt to mitigate the damage by guiding Riss onto the bed properly, rather than just letting her flop. At the very least, she'll try to make sure Riss ends up flat on the bed without her legs hanging out over the side.
She bites her bottom lip when Riss brings up the sound again. She's sure absolutely nothing followed them back, so that meant one of two things.
It was either hiding from her so well that only Riss could hear and see it, or Riss was going kind of crazy.
And although it would suck to bring it up, she probably had to broach the topic eventually.
"Are you sure you aren't imagining it?" She whispers as softly as possible, not really confident in what she's saying enough to put more voice to it.
-
Re: [NEXUS] MagCave V: Tilt Your Head, and the Thread Number and Colon Look Like a Fa
[Riss' Quarters]
"I.. What do you- Ow. Owowowow." And... Still hurts to move. Nothing's changed in the last five seconds. Laboriously, Riss managed to prop herself up on her side as she tried to peer through the dim illumination toward where she though Misha's voice was coming. It wasn't so much that her vision had gone as much as it was simply blurry from moisture welling up. Attempting to blink it away resulted in only a marginal success.
"I don't.. I mean.. It's within your hearing range. Should be.. So why don't you..?" Covering her ears, Riss tried to block out the noises but found there was no change despite what conventional wisdom would call for. So... That rules out directed sound but.. It's not tinnitus and I know my ears are working properly so.. "...I can still hear it." she muttered, unable to come up with an explanation aside from something being wrong with her own mind. Even through her voice was rough, the note of dread it carried would be hard to miss.

Re: [NEXUS] MagCave V: Tilt Your Head, and the Thread Number and Colon Look Like a Fa
Riss' Quarters
Misha wraps a finger up in her hair, running it down the waist-length strands as she thinks carefully, "I think you might be reacting badly to all those apples you ate. It kind of messed with your head a bit, maybe, and now that your eyes are back to normal I'm pretty sure you're just adjusting to being normal again." She's pulling all this thought out of her pendulous rear end, of course, but she knows fey and their tricks better than she does most things, so it's at least an educated guess.

Not here, mind you. Certainly not in this weak little puppet vessel. No, she can feel it prodding at her. At K'rax-Naggath as she slumbers. Not terribly dissimilar from the vague feeling of someone prodding at you while you sleep.
Y'know.

Light fixtures shatter. The floor beyond the circle shakes uncertainly. The smell of ozone fills the air, and then almost immediately gets sucked into the ventilation system. Needs closes his eyes, and when he reopens them, they're now both a bright shade yellow. Not just the pupils, in fact, but the entire eyes. A Magbot sixteen rooms away stops in its tracks, trying to remember what it was about to go do just a second ago. Crabs somehow wind up in someone's mouth on a market day. All sorts of things generally go crazy, general sanity levels in the Nexus loosening like the belt of a man who's finally given up on his latest diet, to make room not for a larger belly, but for an Elder monstrosity slumbering beyond the veil.
The rattling and shattering and cacophonous music and everything else builds to a fever pitch. The ozone smell persists, despite the fact that the ventilators should be doing away with that. That's no guarantee he isn't apocalyptic, though. The Evans-Goodfellow boy would probably be even more unreachable than Shepherd, too, so even if plagues started falling all over the place, past experience with such disasters would do almost nothing to make things any safer.
That said, Magtok hasn't any reason to worry about that right now, so he doesn't. He hurries to text back a reply, before stopping himself early. Nah, can't think of a thing to say that really needs to be said. He'll call later, or maybe send out a card, much less awkward and weird.

It had to have been a carefully calculated answer to catch him off guard so Magtok could judge his reaction.
It's okay, Son. Just take it all in stride.
Easy for you to say. Your father isn't a super-villain of great renown.
My "father" was a one of three mindless drones. I wasn't as lucky as you. Pat reminds her son with a mental message, teasing.
...You sure he won't just fry me if I do something wrong?
I promise. Besides, he's likely more curious than he's admitting. Have you decided on a name yet?
With a mental sigh, the new being steps out of the darkness, using a hand to shield his eyes from the light. He's fairly tall, about six feet, and looks...remarkably human. He has a pale tan skintone, smooth skin, short brown hair and somewhat handsome features. His antennae have vanished as well. It appears that Magtok's shapeshifting has passed onto his son.
"Please, call me Cassius." He tells the two with a dashing smile as he lowers his hand and dipping into a deep bow.
Cassius, one of two people deemed sinful enough to be chewed on in the very center of Hell, for all eternity, as a punishment for killing Julius Caesar. The other being Brutus, his fellow conspirator. And then Judas Iscariot there too, for being the Biblical betrayer of Jesus. But let's not read that far into this, Maggy. Besides, the Roman soldier guy who supposedly poked Cross-Guy with a spear is also known as Cassius, when he's not being called Longinus, which is a much cooler-sounding name for the spear guy, honestly. Also less confusing, too.
Magtok simply regards his progeny with a appraising stare, still not quite sure what to make of him, or how to respond to this whole situation. That bow just made things worse, at least a handshake wouldn't have left him standing around in uncertainty. He clears his throat, trying awkwardly to find some sort of excuse for his silence, before at long last piecing together something resembling a verbal response.
"It's a pleasure to met you, Cassius. Is there er, anything else I can get you?"
Oh gods someone help how do you talk to someone who was just born aaagh.

Re: [NEXUS] MagCave V: Tilt Your Head, and the Thread Number and Colon Look Like a Fa
[Riss' Quarters]
....I can only hope it's as simple as that. Riss didn't seem to be very calmed by this idea but it was the only other thing that she could hold onto and she desperately wanted it to be something other than a problem with her own mind. Because I already have enough problems there and not being able to tell the real from the unreal would make me just lose it. And not because I'm hearing things all the time either.
Reaching out, Riss attempted to grab onto Misha's hand but might end up simply grasping at her hair. If she managed to grab a hand, however, she would attempt to try and pull herself up to a sitting position.. Though given sharp breaths she was taking, the effort clearly was causing whatever aches she had to flare up again. "Could you.." Whatever question the muse was trying to ask was simply left unfinished as the raw feeling in her throat finally overrode any willingness to speak.

Re: [NEXUS] MagCave V: Tilt Your Head, and the Thread Number and Colon Look Like a Fa
Riss' Quarters
Misha lets Riss pull herself into a sitting position, wincing in sympathy to the obvious pain she was going through. After that's done, the nereid moves to sit on the edge of the bed slowly, careful not to jostle it too much.
She'll lean in now, putting her ear close to Riss' lips if she's allowed, "Can you whisper it to me? If not I could maybe grab something to write with if there's anything around." The second option is offered more as a courtesy than anything else. Riss doesn't seem like she'd be able to write any better than she can speak.

[Riss' Quarters]
There isn't anything around and the walls that can display information are on the other side. Should probably fix that one day. Rather than answer right off, Riss simply made to lean into Misha and wrap her arms around her. It would be a loose sort of embrace given that the muse simply didn't have the energy to hold any tighter. Her joints protested but she managed to ignore them for the time being. Her brain felt like it was full of that fluffy packing stuff used to prevent undue jostling but on at least one level she just wanted to hold on to Misha. It was as if she was the only stable thing in the mess and confusion in her mind right now.
She's still waiting on an answer, though.. In the intervening time, a few breaths would brush past the neriad's ear before Riss managed to croak out the rest of her question. "..let me listen?" The muse knew that she probably wasn't being very clear. Hopefully Misha would understand.

Misha smiles and nods, drawing Riss closer as gently as possible before resting the smaller girl's head against her chest. If it would help, maybe she could do something a bit different this time.
A brief moment of concentration, and Misha's body will seem more forgiving than before, just for a moment as some of the flesh just beneath the skin transforms into cool water. Then, her heart will start beating in earnest, the sound transmitted and amplified by the layer of water that the nereid carefully manipulates to make it as resonant as possible. Every beat is loud enough to be heard throughout the room, even if Riss wasn't cradled directly over her heart.
The nereid will stay like that as long as necessary, feeling almost guilty for enjoying this gentle moment as much as she did when Riss was so obviously distressed.

Cassius looks thoughtful for a moment before he frowns a bit. "Well, a few things to be honest. I have one or two plans I'd like to get off the ground if you're willing to help me." He asks Magtok with a smile. Pat can't help but nearly bristle in warmth at the feeling that the two seem to be getting along. She'd been worried initially, especially after her little slip about calling it their child. There wasn't really any other word for it, but she knew that it would only worry her Lord.
"I'll need a Jetpack, brown leather bomber jacket, combat boots, a nice pair of khakis, white dress shirt, and a ray gun. Preferably the kind that makes the concentric circular rays instead of beams if you have it." Cassius asks of Magtok.
...this wasn't going to go well, is it?

Re: [NEXUS] MagCave V: Tilt Your Head, and the Thread Number and Colon Look Like a Fa
[Riss' Quarters]
A hissing of breath indicated that some words had been lost but Riss didn't seem very intent on repeating them. Instead, she made the effort to simply get comfortable and attempted not to make any of the pitiful whimpering noises that were trying to escape her. She wasn't quite sure exactly what Misha had done but was thankful for it. Though I can't exactly say that at the moment. Well, talking feels like my throat is full of glass anyway and I doubt I would be able to swallow even a sip of water right now. Still it's.. I'm not sure what I would say if I felt like talking. 'Oh hey there, I see you really meant what you promised' or whatever. That even sounds stupid in my head. So.. What wouldn't sound stupid?
Unable to think of an answer, Riss tried another method. Shakily reaching out, the muse tried to grasp Misha's hand again. But rather than just hold on, she would pull it towards her and press it over her own heart, clasping it there a moment later. The neriad wouldn't have the same advantage Riss had due to the layer of fabric present but picking up the beat would be easy enough. Especially considering that the muse's pulse was rather elevated at the moment.

Re: [NEXUS] MagCave V: Tilt Your Head, and the Thread Number and Colon Look Like a Fa
Riss' Quarters
Misha's smile melts just a bit into something more compassionate. It may not provide the same effect for her as it obviously does for Riss, but the gesture of kindness, especially from someone who had so little energy to spare, warmed her watery heart.
"I'm here for you, always." This is the first time she's spoken in a voice louder than a whisper, but even then it's not by much. Just loud enough to be heard over her own heart hammering out a steady beat.
-
Re: [NEXUS] MagCave V: Tilt Your Head, and the Thread Number and Colon Look Like a Fa
[Riss' Quarters]
Riss attempted to smile at Misha's words but only managed a faint twitch of her lips. ...I know part of my mind says you're just trying to come up with something comforting but I think I'll let myself ignore that for now and believe you. Even if listening to your voice makes my ears ring just a bit right now. At least the sounds have stopped mostly.. I think. Or they've been drowned out. I'm pretty sure I'm okay with either at the moment... Though I'm pretty sure I'd be okay anyway if I wasn't considering somehow asking Misha to break my spine so everything would stop hurting. Unfortunately, I reinforced the damn thing when I replaced it and the artificial nerves are designed to pop right back into connection after any damage... Of course I'd find a way to both help myself out and screw myself over at the same time... But in a way.. This is nice. I can stay like this for a while.
As time dragged on, however, Riss appeared to deteriorate further, ceasing all movement other than the bare minimum needed. It was highly possible that she might give Misha a real scare once she began breathing only once every fifteen or so minutes and letting out a soft whine whenever she exhaled. At the very least, the fact that she wasn't cooling off and was, in fact, running a rather minor fever would at least tell the Neriad that she wasn't holding on to a dead body. Mmm. Least the.. thingies 're working. Makes it easier at least.
-
Re: [NEXUS] MagCave V: Tilt Your Head, and the Thread Number and Colon Look Like a Fa
Riss' Quarters
Thankfully for Misha's minor amounts of panic, she can still feel Riss' pulse just fine, and is using that to monitor her current health rather than paying attention to her breathing. She does keep an ear out though, trying to listen for a proper death rattle rather than just a wheeze. If the smaller girl starts suffocating, Misha wants to know.
Even knowing Riss isn't in danger of dying doesn't calm her down though, and Misha leans in even closer, wrapping her other arm around Riss' back in a loose embrace as she tries to rest her head atop Riss' own.
A few seconds, or perhaps minutes later, Riss may feel the distinct sensation of a patch of dampness in her hair, spreading around where Misha's cheek has made contact with her hair. A light sniffle follows, barely audible, but the flow doesn't stop.
-
Re: [NEXUS] MagCave V: Tilt Your Head, and the Thread Number and Colon Look Like a Fa
[Riss' Quarters]
Is that.. No don't.. I don't want.. No.. There was little the muse could do aside from forcing her stinging joints to give Misha's hand a faint squeeze with both of hers. It felt like a nail was driven through each bone and that several had found their way behind her eyes and given the lack of really any pain killers or anything else, she was out of luck for the time being. For a while, she made an effort to at least breathe more regularly although that resulted in simply more soft, rattling sighs than anything.
Please don't. I'll be fine. I'll.. Is this how she felt? Did she think the same things? But if.. Then why did she..? Riss tried to say something, anything, just so Misha would stop crying but managed all of a somewhat louder cry that normal. I.. I'll stay here. I know you can't hear me but please, just know I'll stay here. I won't go anywhere. I'll be here. I just wish I could tell you this. Just.. Please stop. I..I don't know what to do. Why won't you... Why do you have to be so... I don't understand this, Misha. I really don't.
As if in response to the neriad's woe, Riss slowly found herself gaining a bit more strength as the minutes passed. Though it would be another half hour before she could summon the energy to give Misha's hand another squeeze, this time would be definitely stronger. "..Oh..Kay..." she managed to force out. "..I'll..Be..Oh..Kay.." Breathing was slowly becoming easier, at least, and it would show. Given another half hour, the fever would be nearly gone and Riss would be more mobile although clearly still sore.

Re: [NEXUS] MagCave V: Tilt Your Head, and the Thread Number and Colon Look Like a Fa
Riss' Quarters
The bout of tears doesn't last nearly as long as Riss' recovery does, and is mostly gone by the time Misha's hand is squeezed again. She still suppresses a sniffle now and then, but the tears have dried.
Riss can feel the muscles in Misha's cheek shift as she smiles, letting out a soft coo and lifting her free arm up to gently run her fingers through Riss' hair, enjoying the new length of it just a bit.
"I'm glad to hear that. I was scared, when you stopped moving I mean, that I'd be stuck in here all alone." And although she can't say it, she was even more scared for Riss' safety. It was that, and not the thought of being alone again, that drove her to hysterics.

Magtok raises an eyebrow, studying Cassius with a cold frown on his face.
"You have plans that you'd like to get off the ground. And you need a jetpack for that. You need a jetpack to get them off the ground."
Magtok's cold scowly face abruptly falls apart, and he smiles back at his offspring thingamajig, almost certainly holding back a tide of immature snickering and giggles at what might be an entirely accidental pun.
"Yeah sure, we've got all that. Well, maybe not the jacket, but it shouldn't be too hard to get one of those. I'll have some Magbots get to finding one as soon as someone's shift in MagMart ends. I might be able to mod one of the pre-existing ray guns, too, but no guarantees there."
He tries to imagine Cassius wearing all of that equipment, hovering about in the sky, taking potshots at things with his silly circle-beams. Seems like a cool enough look, but how do plans factor into anything like that? He'd ask, but maybe it's best to hold off on that for now. Information freely volunteered is almost always more in-depth than information provided upon request.

"..I know how you felt." Riss said after a while, her words sounding much less forced but still rather raspy. "But I'm getting better now so please don't worry, okay?" The muse's tone was a little strained though. It's not like I'm planning to leave or... Let's just not get into that right now, alright? ..I think should probably give her hand back to her now, anyway... It would be about a minute more before Riss let the neriad's hand go, though. Of course, Misha was under no compulsion to move if she didn't wish it.
"...I think I should be careful of those apples from here on out if what you guessed is correct. I'm pretty sure I don't want to feel this ever again. At least, unless I suddenly develop a massive masochist streak or something." the muse said, reaching out to return Misha's partial embrace with a newly freed arm.

"I think so too. I'm pretty sure you weren't supposed to eat that many." The nereid replies simply. The unintended implication that Misha shouldn't have let her eat that many, and is feeling kind of guilty in hindsight. She really should have known better.
Hey wait... "What's a mass-o-kissed anyway?" The word comes out a bit stilted, but at least she got all the sounds correct this time.

[Riss' Quarters]
A light chuckle escaped the muse, that being all she could do without feeling too much pain. "Well.. Simply put a masochist is a person that gets off on feeling pain. Some like it to be inflicted while others just don't care. It's.. A bit odd in extreme cases but I've.. um.." I think she'll believe me if I just say I've heard about it... "..I understand that some people think that just a little pain can provide a, um.. An interesting offset or.. Uh.. piquant sensation during certain activities." And I think I'll leave it at that..
Riss was in the middle of trying to nuzzle closer to Misha when she very suddenly froze, her eyes snapping open in abrupt realization. ...Hold on.. I'm.. I'm doing what now...? Cautiously, almost as if she were trying to sneak up on the neriad somehow, she gently reached up to try and trace Misha's jawbone with a finger. ...Am I.. Have I been..? The muse was quiet and still for a minute before she began giggling to herself, pausing occasionally when her throat started to ache too much. "Did you...? No, I know better than that but if I didn't, I'd suspect you had somehow planned this." she said, tightening her hold on the neriad.

Riss' Quarters
"I see..." Misha files that little tidbit away with what might be the first signs of a blush Riss has seen on her yet. That was certainly an interesting term for... that. Not that Misha has really explored any possibilities, but she's certainly thought about it.
When Riss insinuates that Misha masterminded this whole thing, the nereid gets a guilty sort of grin, taking Riss' giggles as a sign that she didn't mind the situation all that much, "Well, when you started getting kind of bubbly after eating the first few apples, I had a feeling something was going on. But... I certainly didn't stop you from eating more, if that's what you mean."
All the while, Misha continues brushing out Riss' hair, and lets her heart beat just as strongly as when Riss first asked. She does, however, turn the layer of water back into solid flesh to provide Riss a bit more support as the smaller girl squeezes up against her chest.

Cassius can't help but give a grin at his father's laughter. The pun had been intentional and he'd hoped Magtok would catch it. "If you can't provide the jacket, I suppose I could always ask Riss to provide something." He says, reaching up to stroke his chin. "She's still here, right?"
Pat smiles to herself at the scene and if Magtok doesn't stop her, slinks off to continue other projects, leaving the two to acquaint themselves.

[Riss' Quarters]
Riss took note of the light coloring to Misha's cheeks, even feeling the light warmth with her fingers. ...And here I thought you were unassailable. Will have to remember that, I guess. Suppressing an odd sort of grin, the muse continued on as if nothing had happened. "Well that's not... Okay I can blame you for that but that's not quite what I mean." she said, taking a moment to squeeze the neriad's shoulder as she tried to send the message along.
If Misha didn't show any sign of comprehension after a few moments, though, she might have to start being a little more creative. ...Or I could just taunt her till she figures it out. Or maybe I just won't tell. I'm surprised it hasn't come to her yet but.. Then again, aside from earlier I haven't really had my hands off her all day either.. Well, supposing she does get it, what should I do then? ...Hah. I can't believe I'm even thinking this. Who'd have thought? ..I just hope that things stay like this, though. I'd.. I'd hate for this to just be a high point and that be it..

Riss' Quarters
"If you're asking whether or not I knew about Terrie's apples beforehand, or I was luring you into a situation where you'd get over your feelings about physical contact, then the answer is no to both. I did take advantage of the situation once it had already unfolded though." Misha's breath brushes past the top of Riss' head when she speaks, disturbing a few strands of hair.
"Honestly though, you didn't give me much choice there. You were a very smooth talker, remember?" Misha, using instincts she doesn't know she has, is trying to adapt to what she feels Riss is looking for in a personality. If that means being honest and intuitive and perhaps a bit humorous, then that's just because those are the qualities she's learning that Riss possesses, among many others.

Got it in two. Mostly. "I don't know if I'm actually over it, to be honest." Riss said, letting go of the neriad's shoulder to simply let her fingers trace formless lines as she let gravity slowly take over. As hard as that may be to believe right now considering... "I think it's just.. Well, I think I've just gotten used to you in particular... And that sounds so terribly trite. It's like I ripped that out of some bad romance novel or something." she said, stifling a small yawn. "Though I don't remember ever being a smooth talker before. I think because of the whole 'talking' bit that has to happen first. Was probably the apples if anything." Which.. I guess is a good thing that came out of it.
Riss was quiet for a while, her hands engaged in their slow waltz all the while. "Misha?" she whispered. "..Did you really mean what you said earlier? I mean, I know it sounds like a stupid question right now considering but, um.. Did you really mean forever? Or.. Hell, I'd be fine if you just mean a long time. I don't want to be some anchor or whatever some years later and just keep you here if you'd rather.. Go somewhere else." ..Why was that last part so hard to say? I mean.. Sure it still hurts a bit but that was like a shot of nausea or something.
