Re: Natural One - an OotS-style webcomic
I am not aware of such... deformities... of the wildelven race. The SRD entry certainly doesn't mention it. It also strikes me as a rather unfitting breach of the graceful aesthetics inherent in the elven species. At any rate, I would choose to ignore that particular detail for the sake of keeping Aiven's depiction attractive. She actually has a positive Charisma bonus! :smalltongue:

Catharsis, I'm thinking you are gonna be pisseed off when my brother posts his 'Sweet Spot' comics in like a month or two... Just putting it out there, he hates whispergnomes. They ARE kinda broken.

That IS kinda the point of having them in the comic, methinks.
Whispergnomes rock. I can't stand the rock gnome fluff, but whispergnomes are a blast to play--and the only reason I'll play a gnome.

Re: Natural One - an OotS-style webcomic
I like this comic really much. The art is outstanding and with that personal touch that is really needed when you draw stick figures.
It outlines among the other here in the forum, storyline and characters are good so far- I few words, I've subscribed this one.
I've even done fanart!!! But I don't have a scanner, all I got here is a crappy webcam. Here's a shot of my drawing.
Sorry for the low quality (on a second tough, mayve it's better, so you don't get to see well how much I suck).
Looking foward for your next comic!!!

Re: Natural One - an OotS-style webcomic
Whispergnomes = boring to roleplay. They hardly talk at all. Rock gnomes are very fun to have as NPCs; The professor, the bard temporary party member who keeps making horrible jokes and tripping, the all powerful illusionist wizard gnomes named Kafizlle (OK, sorry, he's in my comics. READ THEM! {Ok, sorry, that was just shameless advertising}).

It's probably just the players involved, but I have not seen a single case of a rock gnome being roleplayed better than a whispergnome. Every player with a whispergnome has made their character an outstandingly fun individual to have in a group. Meanwhile, the rock gnomes tended to get on everyone's nerves. Regardless, this thread wasn't made to argue the virtues of various gnome subraces; if you want to continue, let's take it to Gaming.
I believe your advertising is a sham. :smallwink:

Re: Natural One - an OotS-style webcomic
@Caracol: Yay! Fanart! Great job, you made up quite a few details of the clothing that vanish in the stick style, and they fit the concept very well. No need for all the humility.
@Tired N' Drowzy: I agree. It's rather shameless. :smallconfused:
Re Whisper Gnomes: They are indeed a bit too good to be true. As a DM, I'd probably tone them down a bit, reducing the skill bonuses to the usual +2 and outright dropping the Silence ability. Flavor-wise, I certainly find them far preferable over standard gnomes, who are just silly and annoying. Wizards did right in removing them from the 4e player races and making them a "mahnster", as in the cartoon. :smallamused:

Re: Natural One - an OotS-style webcomic
You should participate in Webcomic secret Easter bunny. It's gonna be fun.
-
Re: Natural One - an OotS-style webcomic
The easter bunny thing sounds like fun, but I'm burning enough time on my own comic already, I can't really afford such extras.
Speaking of which, Issue #7 is out. Have fun.

Yeah, that was hilarious.
Ah, barbarians. Is there any joke you can't make?

@^: You made me lol.
Another great one, Catharsis. I'm more and more impressed by your style, and I just whis I could make magnificent backgrounds like yours.
(I found an error in the comic tough. The last panel's outline seems to be out of place. Just a minor flaw anyway, your comics are awesome!!!)

Re: Natural One - an OotS-style webcomic
My comics (banner below) are a prime example of barbarianism. But seriously Catharsis, nice job. Made me chuckle (something OOTS hasn't made me do for a long time)

Yes?
No?
Well I do.

Re: Natural One - an OotS-style webcomic
Glad you like it.
@Caracol: Yes, I corrected it... not fast enough, it seems. Thanks for the pointer. As for backgrounds, in most cases I just use three slightly uneven bands for the ground, the shrubbery, and the background forest (or sky), each with a simple horizontal gradient in the fill color. The foreground objects that make the landscape less boring are also very basic drawings -- I've actually been using the same bunch of grass in all 7 issues, just slightly stretched or mirrored to look different from the other instances in the same scenery. I've even been to lazy to draw a new tree outline in the current issue and re-used earlier ones.
-
Re: Natural One - an OotS-style webcomic
Since my comics are currently taking place in a forest, I think it would be a good time to point out that I am essentially also using Catharsis's trees slightly modified and color-changed over and over again. The forest effect is cool though, especially at night-time.

Re: Natural One - an OotS-style webcomic
I just noticed that the Giant is using gradients for the depiction of the snarl rift. Seems like that's no invention of mine, merely an emphasis in use. :smallwink:
-
Re: Natural One - an OotS-style webcomic
And what an amazing emphasis it is.
Keep it up!

Rich's been using gradients all right, both transparency and gradients, even early on. It's just that your style uses it heavily, and gets away with it! I'd say one of your pages uses the equivalent of 50 Rich strips worth of gradient effects :smallwink:

I'm having a slight fever, so this weekend's strip will be somewhat delayed. Stay tuned.

Here's hoping that you get a speedy recovery! We can wait, just remember that your health > your amazing comic.

That was actually how I've been interpreting the name all along, until I read through the thread I never associated it with the dice...not even on the botched survival check...

Re: Natural One - an OotS-style webcomic
Get better soon... That way my greedy self can get to see more comics quickly because I don't care about anyone except myself and I demand more now!:smallfurious:
Just joking. Just get better soon.

Wow, these comics are hilarious!! Keep up the great work!

Good comic you got here. Very funny stuff. Hope you get well soon.

Re: Natural One - an OotS-style webcomic
I just had a 4.5 hour train ride and a 4 hour D&D session. Consider me healed.
Also, issue #8 is up. It feels a bit cruder than the previous ones, but meh, I was still a bit groggy when I drew it.
