Deadtime now. Goodnight, sleep tight and don't let the humbaba bite.
C'nor, did you need me to post in Trog's? I can't remember.
Unless I've missed a post, yes.
Thenadier finally snapped....who know all he needed was to beaten to shreds by Erin... :smalleek:
Thenadier snapped long before he even got to the Nexus. :smalltongue:
Well...not like he is now...before he had a small voice of reason...:smalleek:
"My work here is done."
:smalleek:
Yeah...Erin kinda went a little too far...blew up his face...not an enjoyable experience for him I'm sure. :smalltongue:
Heh. Well, what can I say, the O'Connell clan tends somewhat torwards Good Is Not Nice at times. :smalltongue:
Speaking of Erin, roughly how long has it been since she left the Den?
He's not going to be twisted on revenge. Nah...:smalleek:
Too far my foot. Someone tries to someone tries to stab you in the chest you pull out all the stops.
Edit: From an IC perspective of course.
Er....what? :smallconfused:
So I'm still fleshing out ideas for the walking talking healing repairing protecting pacifist suit of armor character. I'm thinking a milan hounskull helmet would look cool, and maybe some needles and medical equipment built onto his left arm, and since it's dorftech, a mountain gnome orderly might be cool.
Thez problem I'm having is choosing color scheme. I had thought of a black and white plqgue doctor look, but that seemed too morbid.
Two characters bidding against each other, BR? :smalltongue:
In addition to my last post... I'm wondering where did Erin vs. Thenadier take place? :smalltongue:
Plains in the middle of nowhere. :smalltongue: Not somewhere.
Yup, Outside, on the Plains, and it was over Reinholdt. :smalltongue:
And yup, both my characters were interested, so... :smalltongue:
Hee. I'm not sure whether Meidani and Dani should both be buying each other, though... :smalltongue:
What's all this about characters being auctioned off?
@TS - It'a a "slave" auction that Wolfy's group the Masks is holding. Basically people voluntarily being auctioned off for a day and all proceeds go to helping the Red Zone. It's been going on for a good bit now actually.
Also, Murkus? I think you can post again in Watch before SC and/or Harnel.
*pokes people to Watchtower*
You know who you are.
Oh. Dangit. You guys gotta poke me next time.
How does Reconstruction Unit 1 seem? ready to use? Anyone wanna help me give it a test post?
Murkus, can you stop ignoring my posts in GLoG?
nd since I'll be back to my old work schedule starting tomorrow and I have to get up at the crack of dawn, it's time for me to deadtime for the night. Night all.
Oh, sorry HG. Though I thought I responded to your post before last.
Editting now.
*pokes RB to MURDER* we are still in the job discussion.
*pokes Slii to time tower* (I assume you may need time for that, but a poke don't hurts:smallbiggrin:)
So is something else up? I got a few chars free.
Thanks for the warm welcome folks!
Although I'm a little worried that Elanna is about to have her creativity devoured by an evil C'Nor before I can do anything with it. :smallfrown:
Fans of classic pulp sci-fi might like this kickstarter. Moar ebooks! MOAR! :smallcool:
Don't worry; Leannan Sidhe take at least five weeks to finish draining someone, during which time there are quite a few chances to figure out what's going on. And in the meantime, they function sort of like muses.
I'll get on that Zefir. Just been distracted these past few days.
RANGARs, assemble!
 Sorry, couldn't resist pointing that out.
Random thought!
Just because it was something on my mind whilst at work this morning.
'Magic' is a word we use to describe about a zillion different extremely different things here in FFRP. We probably have as many definitions of what it is as we have players. Possible more.
I've run into several basic themes that magic seems to operate by. They are as follows.
1) Reality is in some way illusionary and 'magic' is the practice of imposing your re-visioned version of this reality onto the illusion. This is Magic as Enlightenment.
2) 'Magic' is a physical force in much the same way that gravity or magnetism is a physical force. The use of magic is simply the application of this force to alter the world around you. This is Magic as Technology.
3) 'Magic' is opposed to the laws of nature and can bypass, bend, and supersede them at the will of the caster. This is Magic as Supernatural.
4) Certain plants, animals, numbers, rituals, ect are fundamentally 'magic' and simply part of a complex system of magical things in an inherently magical world. This is Magic as Natural.
5) There exist spirits/demons/gods/terrorhorrors/what have you that will grant power to a mortal as a boon for various reasons. This is Magic as Hypernatural.
Those are the ones that come to mind right off hand.
What about you? How do you see magic in the Nexus? What kind of system do you use?
Personally, I mix and match, as well as use a few that only partially fall under those categories. Magic used by fey would be considered Magic as Natural, whereas by demons would be Magic as hypernatural.
By wizards, it's dependent on the magic user and their style. Jack Leveret, for example, would be more of the Magic as Tech, which I would be inclined to relabel as Magic as Science. He also has a bit of Magic as Supernatural, as his particular abilities bend the laws of physics in ways a new force could not.
Waldorf, my very-little-seen archmage, encompasses them all, or nearly all. He uses different energies to accomplish different things, and studies all branches of magic.
As for the Planeswalkers in the Nexus, I'd say they're more Magic as Nature, since the energy for their spells comes from the varying types of natural land, rather than a higher power. Some of them manufacture their own mana through other means of course, but that goes against the norm. That's just my opinion of their abilities, and their players are free to contradict me on that.
Magic is whatever the player says it is.
...
Yeah, I'm boring that way. Sue me. :smalltongue:
Well, my thoughts on the matter are complex...
In one setting, magic is simply doing the impossible. There is no particle, no reason, no evidence that magic exists outside of the effects of magic.
In another setting, Magic is a distortion in space-time that can be affected under certain circumstances, using special rules that overlap with technology and psychics.
Another form I am fond of is magic as a limited resource. There is a certain amount of magic (either as particles or whatever) in the world, and as more spells are cast it's harder to cast spells.
And then, my characters that have been affected by the nexus warp it some more: Kate came from a magic-free world, but has since been given a bit of "natural"(?) magic by Slii's fairies. Copi is largely a nexus native, and is (at this point in time) a mixture of magic from Libra, one of the Fiskes, Genesis, and a bit of psychic power. She's probably one of the most interesting cases of cross-system magic in the nexus right now...
*ponders* Well I know for my own setting I've been working on, magic is natural. It's a sort of energy that suffuses all living things.
The same goes for any fey I play. Their magical abilities are simply a part of them. As normal as anything else about them.
My vampires, however, are differnet. I'm inclined to say that magic that animates them is hypernatural, as it was initially a curse from a god.
Hm, I think that covers the bulk of what I play. Though if I were to play a mage of some sort, I'd probably lean toward magic as technology.
My Mage Elio is mostly inspired by the myth adventures books, So for him, magic is this thing that hangs in the air, not in force lines like in the books though, that everyone can access if you know how. When he does magic he pulls some in, then uses focus, somatic components and showmanship, LOTS of showmanship, to make a spell. The easy stuff eventually becomes second nature. So I'm not sure where it falls, but Magic is a Force, Spells are a Skill, I guess is how I'd put it.
...Dyslexia sucks...
Really Awesome Nature Guardians, Environmentalists and Rangers.
yes, it has rangers in it....although...
if anyone can think of something better for either RANGER, DRUID or GAIA, or something else completely different , I'd really Really appreciate it
WARDEN.
Warriors, Animal-lovers, and Rangers Defending Existing Nature.
If you're feeling crazy, you could reject the notion that Nexus organizations need to have acronyms.
Anytime.
And I even spelt rangers correctly in the acronym. D'oh!
The priests of Dalachrech are, naturally enough, Magic as Hypernatural. Mateo probably is, too.
The Skin-Stealer Vampire is Magic as Natural.
Pontius and Mortius both use Magic as Science (since I agree with Slii about that).
Morbit... I'd say is Magic as Hypernatural and also Magic as Natural, since his creation was an accidental act by a god but he's gained several abilities that are inheritable and so are 'natural'.
I generally base my magic off Dungeons and Dragons, though Myrim's homeworld has Magic as Natural/Science and as Hypernatural, and is divided into 3 different types- Eldritch, Celestial and Elemental. Elemental has the least branches, and most widespread; every race has a natural inclination towards one type of Elementalism, and everyone (regardless of race) has a personal inclination that 55% of the time matches the racial inclination and only rarely (5%) is towards the opposed alignment. Eldritch involves the 'Common Realm' inhabited by elves, goblins, dwarfs and so on, and has the most branches. Celestial involves several other realms; the realm of the angels, demons and devils; the spiritual realm; and the realm of the fiends. Elementals are native to the Common Realm.
Well...It seems that my schoolwork has gotten more and more demanding. So, I will not be on as late as I have been in the past. So, yeah...I won't be able to post as much. I still will. Just not as I used to. Getting used to stuff. Sorry. :smallsigh:
Un the book I'm writing, magic is a variety of different things dpending on which form you use, with two kinds nobody can really directly manipulate, but the third being a controllable byproduct of the first two with countless methods of accessing it.
Ok, two posts down, a whole passel of places left to reply to :smallsigh:
My cough is acting up so I might not get to the others today. I'm doin' my best here.
Anyone wanna try interacting with Reconstruction Unit One? If they're injured or the like, he's more than likely to step in. Fixing people up is sort of his thing.
Deadtime now. Goodnight, sleep tight and don't let the Jersey Devil bite.
The reason I didn't use the title 'Magic as Science' is because Science is about the pursuit of knowledge and understanding. How things work and so forth. Technology is the application of that knowledge.
So, say, 'Wizardry' is the study of magical law and theory. That would be the equivalent to Science. Where as 'Magic' would be the practical application of Wizardry just as Technology is the practical application of Science.
Or at least that was my thought process.
A few questions:
Rebo, have your four things in outside landed yet?
Singingnoodle, is Thenadier still in that alley in Inside?
And
C'nor, what kind of Sidhe is the guy who's name totally doesn't remind me of Sheogorath? Is he of the silver rider Tuatha De Danaanwho fought for Dana in some fables and the good kings and good fay in others, or is he of the general higher-up fey warrior caste Aos Si of any alignment or disposition that once supposedly ruled Ireland? Or neither?
Three of them have.
One Inside.
One at GLoG.
And one at The Grove.
I'm basically waiting to see if anyone else feels inclined to RP before dropping the last two. Or at least trying to figure out where to put them.
Well...if any of them are free for RP I've got a new character to try out. It'd be especially useful to an injured one.
And where would this PC be?
