Hello, I've been lurking awhile, but only got to making am account recently.
Hi everyone!
I was reading up on some play by post boards, and figured since I've used this site for game information before, it might be a good place to start! I have a lot of character ideas, however the main one I'd like to pursue is a Warforged Fighter/Blacksmith named Tank. I don't really know how to get started (or where), so any help would be greatly appreciated. I can have character description and background if necessary as well.
Thanks in advance!
Hello, Celticbear sent me. He told me to come here and ask what I should do. So what should I do? Also, Iam fairly new to the whole rping thing, so all help is appreciated. Thank.
First step would be to decide which universe(s) you'd like to participate in, but I don't think the list in the OP is very current nowadays... thankfully there's OoC threads for all of them on the first page.
Hi everyone. I'm sneakykitten and I enjoy fantasy RPs and modern ones mostly. Some science fiction if I don't have to play a scientific char. Like I only write at a basic level so don't expect amazing writing or whatevs. The ones I've done the most are fantasy, then modern and last science fiction.
Umm.. I wonder.. if there anyone, who would like and to try to tell together a Rp game inspired by Fables In Exile/Wolf Among Us?
Looking for something with a fighting system
I am in hot blooded spirits
I'm interested in role playing something in Nexus; However I have a few questions:
A) How much activity is required? I am not sure I'll be able to post every day.
B) Do I have to post my character's backstory somewere, or does it develop on the go?
C) Do I start at some specific level? Are any creation rules from d20 relative? Or are those obsolate, and I just make my thing, loosely based on one of the settings/games described?
D) Anything else I should keep in mind?
In order:
a) not much, though more than once per week might be appreciated
b)you don't need to post a backstory
c) no, but it's suggested that your first character not be super high on the power scale
d) Not really, but you might want to post first in a super open thread like inside/outside/trogs instead of jumping straight into a plot.
A) Mostly depends on exactly who you're interacting with, but general rule of thumb is a few times a week. People have things to do in life. We get it.
B) Up to you. I like having some established beforehand, but whatever you like.
C) Again, up to you. Kind of the point of freeform. Hell, one of my characters is a Marvel mutant. Just go with what you want. That being said, having somebody super crazy powerful could get annoying if you don't play it right.
D) Have fun, don't assume what anybody else will do, and have fun.
A) As much posting as you can handle is enough. Some people reply daily; others don't. Some people won't be in the same time zone as you, and you might find yourself (particularly over a weekend, when people aren't working/at school/able to stay up later) in a scene with somebody who posts at two in the morning, because for them, it's eight in the evening.
B) You can use the Directory, but it's is optional. I don't use it at all.
C) They're... Pretty obsolete. You can use whatever you want. I'd recommend starting low-power, but it's not a requirement.
D) Please go introduce yourself in the Out of Character thread, here.
E) Have fun!
A: as much as you can. I generally try to post daily or once every two days.
B: nope. Some of my characters have no backstory, some have something that was set from before they were introduced, and I make some up as I go.
C: lots of people recommend low or mid power for your first character. There's no creation rules, just know what you can and can't do.
D: It's fun. As someone who wasn't sure about it when they first joined, I can say it's definitely good.
Thank you all for your answears. You've been very helpful!
Now, one last question... Were do I get started?
One of the taverns is usually recommended for just tossing in a character and seeing who interacts with them. Dancing Fox Inn, Trog's Tavern.
Could also have them wandering around the streets in Inside. Or in a field in Outside.
Pretty much any generic open area place.
I'm interested in horror, sci-fi, or (especially) noir style universes, are there any that anyone would reccommend?
The Nexus locations all have a bit of everything going on. Mostly depends on who you're interacting with. Starside is in space, so that'll be way more sci-fi. Skyside and parts of Inside could cover noir stuff. Horror could pop up anywhere.
If you want to get a feel for how characters interact with each other here, might want to come up with a character and toss them into one of the taverns. Or Inside. Somebody will notice them.
Heyo! Apparently I’m supposed to say what kinda thread I would like to participate in and someone will come and tell me what thread I should join. So I guess I’d want a thread that allows me to use special powers and i guess that’s about it.
If "special powers" are what you're after, pretty much every currently active setting will work. That's a bit unspecific.
Details! We need the details!
But yeah, like Morty said, special powers could be used anywhere, depending on what they are.
Are they magic? Tech? Comic related? I have a character that's a straight up Marvel mutant.
I'd be interested in doing a hard sci-fi setting, if anyone would like to.
Hey everybody. This is my second time here; the first attempt at FFRP didn’t go so well. That was a while ago so the threads where I posted for that RP are also gone.
I’ve been trying to figure out what went wrong, and as I recall I suffer terribly from decision paralysis.
Am I correct in assuming that I should come up with my own storylines? Since this is free form and there’s no GM above us. And then among the players participating, we kinda work out how the story goes?
Yes, that's basically what you could do.
(The alternative is to get involved in storylines that other players come up with and let them guide the plot with input from you.)
Either way, it's up to the players to guide the story. Some people prefer to plan everything out; others prefer to decide it in the moment where it goes next, based on character growth or rule of cool or whatever. Try out a few different ways, then you can see what you enjoy the most. (That's my recommendation.)
The important thing is to just try to get involved. Sure, there's some people who go out of their way to roleplay with new people, but there's no guarantee they'll have time to do that. So, it's probably better either to get involved through your own proactivity or to ask in an OoC area how to get involved, how to start a plot, etc.
Hows it hanging, this whole thing seems cool, so i'm going to attach myself to it and leech its blood until it cannot support its own upper body.
You guys got any GoT-esc fantasy politic games?
Hey guys! New(-ish) player here... been feeling some nostalgia for these things and I've been wanting to get back into a freeform roleplay for a while now. I'm good with any setting in broad terms, but I would greatly prefer one that isn't attached to a pre-existing book, TV or film series (I'm here to play, not do homework).
