Re: Dancing Fox Inn X: Four Left Paws
"World of Darkness is a game system. Their Changelings don't usually lose their human faces but everything else fits. Who knows?"
is Mist's explanation. Who knows indeed?
Mist is quite surprised when the thing starts showing circular velocity not normally expected from such a small fall! He lowers his head to counter-level and staaaares at it while it spins.
How long will it go?
-
Re: Dancing Fox Inn X: Four Left Paws
"Changelings?" Fortuna echoes. "Like... shape shifting empathic vampires sort of changelings? Or are you talking about something else?"
The changelings from Equestria are pretty darn distinctive.
Though 'World of Darkness' is now added to Fortuna's reading list. Another game based world... That seems to happen quite often.
Anywho!
The coin will continue spinning. Though as it does its color is slowly fading from gold to a more electrum hue. Gradually, ever so gradually, the coin is turning more silvery. Though silver with a faint golden glint. An alloy, probably? It actually looks rather striking. And it's still spinning. Even if Mist pokes it the coin will just go doodling away like a top. Nothing short of picking it up or slapping it flat will stop it.
"That's the first one I've ever made," Fortuna says with a proud little smile. "It does that so you don't roll it by mistake. Or flip it, I suppose. That was one of the problems with Libra's trinkets. They could be rolled unintentionally. But that coin can't be. Flip it up in the air and catch it and it'll cause a random chaos magic even. Or just keep in your pocket for good luck."
Fortuna is very happy with how her spin on the Dice of Wonder turned out. She has decided to make coins instead of dice, if only to distinguish her artifacts further. Sure, she could still make them dice. Or sheep knuckle bones. Or whatever. But coins and good fortune go well together.
-
Re: Dancing Fox Inn X: Four Left Paws
"Just folks altered by Fae of some kind. Don't know if I really could have entered something from that, though. My life's too pleasant." he says with a chuckle.
He looks down at the coin, staring into the shiny metal surface spinning round and round, as if lost in memories. Only after a while does he reach over and stop it with his fingers. He looks down at it, and holds it close to his chest for a moment, near Leah's pendant.
Leah's pendant can take emotions from him, but he doesn't want to cheat and rob himself of his sadness. He needs his emotions. They're what makes him human. And this sort of thing is what matters to him. He doesn't like being largely out of control of things, so he's unlikely to use the flip, but it's just a little token to what he likes to believe. That normal people are decent people, people who give a damn.
"Thanks. Really. When you're super famous I can say I had the first one!" he says with a laugh.

Re: Dancing Fox Inn X: Four Left Paws
Cleo comes on in to the Inn, to add some music, although there don't seem to be many customers to appreciate it right now.
Oh.
"Hello Geneva."
Disapproval of the dracoequuuus is clearly audible as a change in her voice.
-
Re: Dancing Fox Inn X: Four Left Paws
"Interesting..." Fortuna mutters, taking another sip of her tea. She'll certainly have to look into World of Darkness a little more. Who knows how many other people might be from a similar reality. At Mist's proclamation Fortuna laughs. "I'm not sure if I'll ever end up being particular famous, but I really do hope it helps you. I like using my magic to help people. Even if it's just a little nudge from fortune's favor to get things rolling down the right path."
She gives a little nod.
And then a greeting. Fortuna's ears droop at the tone. "Oh... umm... hello Cleo. Is something wrong?"
-
Re: Dancing Fox Inn X: Four Left Paws
Mist smiles and sets the coin, sending it spinning. He reaches into his pocket, pulling out the flute his grandmother gave him. He should play it more. He sits down on top of the counter beside the spinning coin. And he plays, because there's nothing else to do right now, in the Inn with all the people who give a damn about him even if he's just their waiter. People come and go, but he won't ever forget a favor. So even if it's a song he plays often enough, he'll play it anyway. For Strahd and Naku and Geneva and everyone else, he plays Thank You.
-
Re: Dancing Fox Inn X: Four Left Paws
"You're just doing the chaos dragon thing again. Did you at least notice it this time?"
Cleo walks over to the draconequuuuuuus. Doesn't even skip, that's how worried she is. Before that, she drops her things in the bards' corner. Hopefully she'll be over soon to pick them up.

"So. Mist." Naku says to him, very quietly. She waited for his song to be done, and was assuming she wasn't interupting, since he had gone off to go play something. If she was then oh well. Not much more hate she could get now anyway.
"When did I say I refuse to help you out at all?" She asks, looking up from her feet, directly into his eyes. She doesn't ask this angrily, trying to make any sort of argument out of it, just . . . very sadly.

Re: Dancing Fox Inn X: Four Left Paws
Mist's music is nice.
Too bad Cleo's react is making it harder for Fortuna to enjoy it. Her nose falls floor-ward, her gaze wandering toward a potted plant that's suddenly really interesting. "I know," she says quietly. "That's what I am now. It says so right on my character sheet. It just hadn't all been filled in yet when you first met me. I'm still me, though. I'm who I'm supposed to be. This is my destiny and my purpose."
She smiles over at Mist.
"Don't you see? I'm already helping people."
-
Re: Dancing Fox Inn X: Four Left Paws
Cleo peers at Fortuna's character sheet, although she might not manage to get a good look at it.
"What the- you even changed your name on here!"
That one's in the OoC text and all.
Cleo sighs. She can't even just reach over and erase the relevant fields. To do that, she's need the help of her relatives *shudder*. No, this will probably have to stay. But she doesn't have to like it.
"Alright. If you're still my friend. I guess. You can change what you are. Especially if you're helping Mist out."
...
"Shouldn't that coin fall over eventually?"
-
Re: Dancing Fox Inn X: Four Left Paws
Mist once again, flinches heavily.
"But I was in the- how did you- dammit vampire hearing, that was supposed to be a private conversation!
You didn't, but every time I brought up you being in charge and the things you did you always got really self-deprecating and so I stopped wanting to come to you for advice because you being so hard on yourself made me really sad." he says, too stunned to say anything but the truth.
-
Re: Dancing Fox Inn X: Four Left Paws
Unfortunately it was written in pen. Not even some sneaky pencil work would be able to alter it.
"I didn't change it," Fortuna sighs.
When you're rife with devastation~
"I liked my old name..."
There's a simple explanation~
"Whatever powers that be out there in the Nexus who are pulling all the strings picked it."
You're a mad author's creation~
"I can understand."
Trapped upon a forum page~
"It's a pretty name that describes my destiny well."
But no matter how he types it~
"And I hope that I can really live up to it."
Know that we must always fight it~
"Fortuna? Fortune?"
We can't let him break our spirits~
"To bring winds of good fortune to others is a pretty important one true purpose."
As we sing our silly song~
-
Re: Dancing Fox Inn X: Four Left Paws
"Ugh, that's no fun. I mean, it's not bad. But it's so punny. You should try to go by a different name, even if it's not Geneva. You don't have to listen to that thing."
Cleo idly attempts to give Geneva's flank-die a spin.
"I mean, if your purpose could change like that once..."
-
Re: Dancing Fox Inn X: Four Left Paws
"I'm from Equestria, last I checked we're probably the puniest nation in the cosmos," Fortuna giggles. "I like Fortuna. It even sounds kind of like my old name. And Fortuna Wonder for a full name actually sounds pretty nice, don't you think?"
She watches Cleo walk over and can't help but grin when her friend reaches for her dice. She even stands up to make it easier to reach!
And then with the sound of two hundred d6s clattering against each other Fortuna the Golden Dice of Wonder is rolled! The sensation is just as exhilarating as it always is. A few moments later it comes to rest on 771. Cleo gains the ability to transform actual rocks into fake movie rocks! You know, those Styrofoam boulders that look real but are, in fact, made of Styrofoam? She can also change them back into rocks. That would make throwing boulders at someone a lot easier.
"Huh... that one's kind of odd..." Fortuna mutters aloud. "You'll be able to turn rocks into Styrofoam. Like all the granted powers, I'm not sure if it's permanent or not."
Sometimes they last forever.
Sometimes they wear off.
-
Re: Dancing Fox Inn X: Four Left Paws
Cleo nods.
"Sounds a lot better that way. You should always use your full name. When you can."
She watches the die whirl about.
"Huh. That could be neat. Show off, right? Pick up a huge boulder like it's nothing."
Suddenly! Attempt to hug the dracoequuuuuuus.
-
Re: Dancing Fox Inn X: Four Left Paws
Fortuna gives a little eep when she's suddenly pounced! Her tension melts away pretty quickly and she wraps her large forewings around Cleo to return the embrace. She's not sure what the hug is for, but like an equestrian she really isn't going to pass up friendly contact.
Hugs are nice.
Hugs make things better!
And the best thing about hugs is that whenever you give one away you gain one more.
"Thanks. Hehe... I don't suppose you would like a coin, too? Then you could flip it when I'm not around."
-
Re: Dancing Fox Inn X: Four Left Paws
"Sure. And I'd love one! Before all this started I was looking for one of those dice of wonder."
Hug ends and Cleo glances to Mist's coin and then back to Geneva.
"Unless there's something about it I don't know."
-
Re: Dancing Fox Inn X: Four Left Paws
"Well, I think I can do you one better than something as awful as one of Libra's dice of wonder," Fortuna replies proudly before clapping her plaws together. When she pulls them apart there's a single large electrum coin with a sort of simplified draconequus head wearing a blindfold on one side and a horn of plenty on the other. Writing in Equestrian appears on both sides.
Heads, 'Flip for a change of fortune'.
Tails, 'Hold for fortune's favor'.
Honestly, the thing is big enough to be an amulet or pendant or something.
It looks...
Different from Mist's coin?
"Mist got the first minting collector's edition," Fortuna explains. "All of the rest of them will look like this. They won't roll on accident since you have to flip them. And they give a little bit of good luck so long as you have one with you!"
-
Re: Dancing Fox Inn X: Four Left Paws
"Uh, one of Libra's dice of wonder is you. Maybe you shouldn't talk them down so much?"
Regardless, Cleo takes the pendantable coin and clasps it in both hands.
"Thank you, Geneva. Means a lot."
She tries to set it spinning on her fingertip.
-
Re: Dancing Fox Inn X: Four Left Paws
Fortuna rises up into the air and tries to do her best Apocalypse impression. "I am as far beyond Libra's Dice of Wonder as the Dice of Wonder are beyond... umm... normal dice? I guess?"
She was going for imposing and imperious, but it just kind of fell apart there at the end.
"But no, I'm not one of her dice. That was the seed that set me to being what I am now, but I'm my own artifact. My own person, too."
Being one's own person is good.
The draconequus smiles when her friend begins coin-spinning. Said coin will continue spinning as long as it stays there. The thing will staunchly refuse to land on either heads or tails unless someone flips it and catches it. Otherwise there is only the spinning.
-
Re: Dancing Fox Inn X: Four Left Paws
"So you're definitely kind of like them, is what your trying to say?"
Cleo smirks and, eventually, folds her hand around the coin.
"Glad you're okay, even after all these changes. Anyway, I should go get playing."
And she skips over to the corner to get out her stringed tambourine. This seems fitting for starting with today.

Naku just shakes her head slightly. "We'll talk about that later.
For now though," she says, stepping froward, and gently placing a hand on Mist's shoulder. She looks into his eyes, a ghost of a smile starting to show on her face. "I appreciate your honesty. It's really nice. But you were asking me those things while I was stressing and panicking about, well, everything.
As was made obvious by your conversation with Strahd and my forgetting about him." This last is delivered with some bitterness. Not aimed at Mist, though. Mostly at herself and forgetting. She honestly hadn't remembered that Strahd was even here when she had gotten here. She is quite upset at herself for that.
"But anyway. You can ask. Not wanting is not the same as me refusing to help. Please keep that in mind, m'kay? I can help. I want to help. You guys are my friends.
I bit off more than I could handle. It didn't go well. I screwed up. Please don't make me the bad guy because of it." The last is said with actual tears in her eyes.

Ashley giggles a bit. "Is that so? What kinds of hats are we talking about?" She actually did get the meaning behind that, or at least she thinks she did.

Strahd drops the platter right in front of her. It's probably one of the least pleasant possible ways to give someone a handmade, lovingly made meal. There's coffee, glazed and powdered donuts, and bagels with cream cheese topped by slices of tart pickled watermelon and crispy bacon. A masterpiece of a breakfast.

Re: Dancing Fox Inn X: Four Left Paws
Mist rubs the back of his neck.
"Aw geez Naku, you know that I'm bad at phrasing things. I was panicking, okay? I'm sorry, I didn't really mean it that way at all, it's just what came out of my mouth when I started babbling."

Previously, Mist just gives Ally a pained expression. He can be skipped for a bit.

Re: Dancing Fox Inn X: Four Left Paws
Aiden looks up from his journal to see that changes are happening. He can tell that this isn't really the place for him to be right now, so he just leaves the envelope for Mist on the table and heads out, unless someone decides to stop him.

"And that's fine. I understand panic perfectly well." Naku says, letting go of his shoulder, and smiling at him. An actual, honest smile this time, instead of a half, hurting one. "I guess what I was trying to get at is that if you do need help, I am here. I will do what I can. And if you ever have a problem with something I'm doing, or even just me in general, don't be afraid to come talk to me. I'm . . . doing a lot better now, so I can actually probably function."

Re: Dancing Fox Inn X: Four Left Paws
Mist smiles.
"I'm glad to hear that, Naku. I really am. And thank you, it really means a lot to have people here. I'd say more than you know, but I think you probably do.
I think it'll really help a lot in the NEW THREAD "
