I frequently long for the days when I had time to post in other than red text. :smallfrown: But those who've been here long enough remember when that was the case. Hopefully, happy days are here again.

Re: New Moderators and Updated Forum Rules
Woo! New mods!
And, thanks to the leaving mods.
So anyway, hi new mods! I recognize most of you, though you probably don't recognize me. I'm easy to forget on the internet, hard to forget in real life. Funny, that. I frequent Media and Roleplaying Games, sometimes Homebrew, OoTS, or Friendly Banter.
Hello everybody!

Re: New Moderators and Updated Forum Rules
Roland, I hope that you & Rawhide have an easier time now that you have a posse to back you up. I know that it can't have been to easy for you guys to police the site shorthanded. So perhaps now you can relax, kick your feet up & watch the new class strut their stuff for a while. I know that Glyphstone is already hard at work, locking up mancied threads. Happy days may indeed be here again. :smallcool:

Re: New Moderators and Updated Forum Rules
Glad to have new mods, congratulations to all of you.
and is it weird that I recognized all the new mods?
Thanks mods that you are departing, your work made Giantitp the forum I love.

Re: New Moderators and Updated Forum Rules
Congrats to all the new mods.
I mostly only lurk, but still.

Re: New Moderators and Updated Forum Rules
Congrats to all the new folks, and best of luck with whatever life puts in your path to those who have opted to move on.

A moderator is like a police officer. They exist to keep a place clean, and have been granted some power to do that, but they're still civilians, and not morally or legally superior to other civilians.
Why would they be above the rest of us? Theoretically, shouldn't they be below, propping up the community?

To be ominous, you need to actually have the power to do what you hint at.

Worship? Who is worshipping them? Okay, there are some people chanting things at The_Gliphstone, but otherwise we are mostly cheering on their change in social status.

I'm further happy to see Mod posts that don't include red text. Calm down with the worship guys. Maybe we can go back to talking about mods in a manner other than "ZOMG Roland's banhammer! Don't speak of him as tho he's a normal human, you'll incur his wrath on us all!"
I've seen mod posts without red text for who knows how long. One of the things I respect most about GITP is that the people with power never abuse it. In fact, were it not for my morbid fascination with locked threads, I would almost never see Red Mod Text.

I'm proud to say I know exactly who Mark Hall is, and even tho I never would have thought to pick him, I must say I read that and thought "Huh? Yes. Yes, good decision."
I remember when he was Mr Nexx. I never did figure out how he got his name changed.

Also, and finally, where is the appropriate place to ask for clarifications of the new rules? Here, or in another thread?

Either ask a mod by PM or start a thread in the Board/site issues forum.

Slightly? If we can't deal with someone who is slightly creepy, I think we have bigger problems.

I have to say, you really deserve posting in non-red text. I don't really look for your work, but I still manage to see you all the time. You definitely work hard.

I always wanted to become a mod... *grumble grumble* It just seems cool. Like a sheriff.:smalltongue:
Now I wonder, "Did they sign up for that, or were they just picked then asked?"

I tip my crown to you All. Both in goodbye and Hello. See you around The_Glyphstone, death still will not kick the bucket so I'll keep waiting.

Oh hey. Congrats to all new Modlings. And Glyphstone, I rather like your Modtag. Perhaps you should make a Glyphthulu avatar?

I remember talking to some of these guys when they weren't mods! Now look at them! Here's to the past, present, and future mods! Huzzah! *holds up Red Bull then drinks*

I might at some point, but Dogmantra did such a good job with this one (and, completely unasked, redrew it to highlight the faint 'Popcorn' label on the side), so I'm going to keep it for a while.

Just pop your head into the gaming forums and you will. He's almost everywhere, even before his title grant.

Re: New Moderators and Updated Forum Rules
Greetings, new mods! I will do my best not to get on your respective bad sides.
Goodbye, old mods! I don't think we ever met, but goodbye and good luck regardless.

There's no colossal shakeup going on, and everything seems to have remained in the spirit of what it had been before. You're unlikely as a poster to notice a difference in your day-to-day life.
There are a couple of changes that I found slightly worrying, and I'd like to have my fears assuaged or confirmed one way or the other before I continued posting too much. Because I know several of the changes applied to my "style" of posting specifically, and I'd like to know if it's a "never do this" or "don't do this excessively," or "don't make this the sole reason for your post," etc.

I think we all do, man. I certainly remember those days, and like I said, I'm happy they're back.
How do you reconcile this:

I never accused anyone of abusing power. I think Roland has done an incredible job as the Lone Ranger. But while you may never see "Red Mod Text," I'll bet you see "Black Mod Text" even less. The point was not that mods post in red text too much, the point was that maybe now we'll see Roland as a regular guy. We won't have a bunch of newbies who see him only as some "Judge Dredd" type figure. He'll be able to post in a thread without people freaking the heck out.

Same as it ever was, PM me or post a thread in Board Issues. If you have multiple questions or concerns, I recommend PM.

Agreed. Glad this has happened and I hope you get a chance to be a regular poster again. That or just the chance to take a break.

I think I made an intuitive leap in my reasoning to get from, "I see mods post in black often enough to not think much of it" to "GITP is awesome because nobody abuses their power." Now if only I could think what it was...
At any rate, I never said I never saw mods post in "Red Mod Text," just that I almost exclusively see it because when I see a locked thread that has a mod as the last poster, I morbidly go look to see why they locked it. How often you see mods post really depends on where in the forums you hang out, so some days I see black mod text, and others I don't see the mods at all.
Which reminds me of how I made that logical leap: Pretty much every time I see the Giant post something, which isn't that often:smallfrown:, he comes across as the most polite, patient, and intelligent person to EVER post on the internet. Hence why he is in charge: nobody could best him in a semantic battle. He then entrusts his patience and policy to the mods to go tame the far reaches of the playground, which they do with similar patience, politeness and intelligence. Make sense? Hold water? Put me on the Mods' short list of crazies to watch out for?
I'm certain there is a meme I should invoke right now, but I am about a dozen years behind on memes.

Re: New Moderators and Updated Forum Rules
I look away and suddenly we have new mods. Good to see it, hopefully this will lead to a bit less grumbling in certain parts of the forums where, honestly, the fact that Roland alone was patrolling it was starting to be felt.

That explains, I'm only in Arts and Crafts and a side of Friendly Banter. All I'm good for is making OotS avatars.
