I assume Elan is decked in Science Officer garb because he's taking over as healer. And the other red-shirts, well, not everyone is science or command. I'm a bit surprised Belkar was put into Command, though I'd image it's mostly because of the low member count in the Order.
The Gold trim on Durkons' Cuffs indicate command, I would guess he's Scotty.
Also, I love Klingon Thog in the background, as well as the World within a World there as well. And I see you Admiral Hinjo!

Re: The Post-Kickstarter Discussion Thread: Bask in the Afterglow
Man, Chekov-Belkar could really use a booster seat there.

I thought the gold trim indicated officer status, but the red shirt indicated operations. It's been a while since I've flexed my Trek muscles, though.
EDIT: Huh. Nevermind; apparently, Scott was second officer of the ship, and thus took command when Kirk and Spock both left.
Spoiler: Infos on the Star Trek TOS uniform color, as relating to Durkon-Scotty

So Scott wore the Operations red, as engineering was his primary role, but had gold stripes to indicate that he was also Command and Chief Engineer.

Re: The Post-Kickstarter Discussion Thread: Bask in the Afterglow
In TOS Trek, Engineering and Security wear red, and Command wears gold. In TNG and later Trek, they reversed it. Why, I've never heard.

Engineering, Security, Tactical, and various other departments were all in the Operations division, which was red (and later gold).

Well, I defer to anyone else in matters of Trek info, I have a passing knowledge at best. However, the additional detail on his cuffs, and his dwaven accent seemed to be an indication that our bearded buddy works in Engineering

Check the sleeves--Durkon is Scotty. Plays on his accent, plus, he's the one who keeps the ship running. Edit: Hella ninja'd, there.
Hard to imagine Elan as Bones, but it's worth it just for the Nurse Chapel Banjo.
Got to say that Roy looks amazing as Kirk. Even without the toupee, the body language really sells it. It's been said before, but these stick figures are damn expressive.
Thanks, Giant!

Re: The Post-Kickstarter Discussion Thread: Bask in the Afterglow
Elan is Bones on account of him being the emotional one, in contrast to V's Spock. It was a toss-up for whether to have him or Durkon be Bones, but Elan didn't fit naturally into any of the other roles while Durkon's accent gave him a convincing reason to be Scotty, so that's what I went with.

That makes total sense. Thanks!

Re: The Post-Kickstarter Discussion Thread: Bask in the Afterglow
I have to say, this is inspired. Whatever led to this being a thing, is something that the world needs more of.
-
Re: The Post-Kickstarter Discussion Thread: Bask in the Afterglow
Makes sense. My first thought was Durkon wasnt Bones because of his death, and the uniform represented that. Thanks for the clarification.

The Kickstarter update email mentioned the reason was Leonard Nimoy's death (I'm assuming that is not KS-backer-exclusive info).

Re: The Post-Kickstarter Discussion Thread: Bask in the Afterglow
Now I am stuck by the terrible urge to figure out why each memeber got each place.
Some make sense, some don't.
Still awesome!

Oh. Well now I feel awful. Im going to go cry in a corner now for being terrible. :smallfrown:

You know, lots of people make commitments that they then don't fulfill. By contrast, the Giant gives us this:

Well, I believe that's navigation, and, as a Ranger, Belkar ostensibly helps the Order navigate.

Dear lord, that ship is doomed.

Re: The Post-Kickstarter Discussion Thread: Bask in the Afterglow
Elan truly has immersed himself in his new role as backup healer.
Gotta say, this wallpaper may not be quite as artistically elaborate as some of the previous ones, but it is making me grin SO MUCH. I swear I can hear the classic Trek beeping noises as I look at it now.
Edit: Also, whoa, the O-Chul story is fifty pages and counting?
-
Re: The Post-Kickstarter Discussion Thread: Bask in the Afterglow
Quite a beautiful poster. Makes me miss Leonard Nimoy even more. :smallfrown:

Yeah, you have no idea how happy that makes me. I considered at one point trying for the Backer's Choice PDF just to request the O-Chul sorry be longer (or an additional O-Chul story). Long story short, be glad I'm married and poor.

Re: The Post-Kickstarter Discussion Thread: Bask in the Afterglow
Wait a minute, which one is Uhura and which one is Janice?

Roy's sister (whose name eludes me just now) is sitting at Uhura's station, so I guess she's Uhura and Celia is Rand. Does make that scene in Plato's Stepchildren really awkward.

I like Julia-as-Uhura because of how it uses the teen-girl-chatting-on-cellphone stereotype. Makes sense for her to be at the comm.

Don't feel too bad, as Rich also mentioned this in the update.

here. I came up with the idea as a tribute to Leonard Nemoy when he passed away, but as always with me, it took a while to actually get it done. I hope it being late doesn't diminish the thought, but at least it gives me a chance to send you all to the
For the Love of Spock Kickstarter, where Adam Nimoy is working to create the definitive documentary about his father's famous character.
So while it was Nimoy's passing that inspired this, attention is being drawn to a worthy cause.

She also has the communicator delibob (that I don't feel like looking up the name of), so, yes, she's definitely Uhura.
And Celia as Yeoman Rand makes sense because of the Rand/Kirk angle.

As for the wallpaper, love it love love it.
SO many details. No one has mentioned it yet, I think, but SnarlWorld is on one of the static viewscreens.
Lots of other things have been commented on so I won't repeat. But it was all so awesome. Including the ship-as-stick-figure design next to the door.
Bra-vo! :smallcool:

Re: The Post-Kickstarter Discussion Thread: Bask in the Afterglow
Haley-Sulu is a good fit. He was the ship's firing officer, IIRC. What difference does it make if you're firing arrows or photon torpedoes?
There's no ST character for Blackwing. I guess he'll just have to settle for being a random red shirt.

Re: The Post-Kickstarter Discussion Thread: Bask in the Afterglow
Just noticed their insignia all have The Stick on them. That's awesome!

Re: The Post-Kickstarter Discussion Thread: Bask in the Afterglow
Since nobody mentioned it yet: Hinjo as admiral (?) on one of the screens. In blue uniform, of course :)

Perhaps that is the Giants' homage to Star Wars.

Not only The Stick, but an embroidered Stick ala the original insignias! :smallcool:

Re: The Post-Kickstarter Discussion Thread: Bask in the Afterglow
So should we start a debate over the apparent ridges on Thog's forehead? :P
I really love all the details here, too. The 3 screens, all the buttons everywhere, Banjo's hair, Mr Scruffy's appearance, V's uniform being neither the female nor the male one... Looks like a lot of work and attention went into this.
