You do realise I live in Oxford at the moment don't you?
The city that hates cars with a fiery passion that is only matched by its hatred for That Other Place.
No seriously, the road system around Oxford city centre is bloody insane. No one can navigate it sensibly, there are far too many buses and bicycles, and the pedestrians hate them all!
It'll be walking all the way.
And because I've just realised I'm moving out in only four months or so, and I live on the main college site, I can do this:
The meetup will be at:
Koorly's place
Merton College
Merton Street
Oxford
OX1 4JD

Chances are more likely that I'd let it happen in that case, yes.

Sweet.
And that's probably for the best. I only just got my Ps before I left, it's only in auto cars, and I haven't actually driven on my own yet, and I have pretty much no experience in big cities.

Two and a half years in Oxford, I've been in a car once - a lift from the College Nurse to the surgery - and never on a bus.
You can get most places in Oxford by walking. Certainly if you're in the centre. Which I am. :smallsmug:
Serps dear, what's your opinion on food places/pubs/activities?
This is mostly for you after all.
Oh, and if you don't fancy any of the places I mentioned earlier there's always up Cowley and Iffley way. They got a tapas bar, some Chineses, chippies, more Italians, pubs, a few burger joints, a Russian place, more Indian places, another Nandos, another G&Ds, loads really.

Re: UKitp 11 - Y'all should join us in the fun!
I'm good for pretty much whatever. I tend not to be into fried food, but I'm pretty easy. I LOOOOOVE tapas.
Pubs are nice. I like pool.
Activities I'm also pretty easygoing. I really want to see the Uffington Horse (that's the one that's down there, isn't it?), and historical stuff is good, as is anything animal related, and also just plain fun stuff.

One night on George Street and then another wandering down Cowley way then. I might even be convinced to try tapas solely on your recommendation.

The University Museum of Natural History it is then! There's the attached Pitt Rivers too, I think it has a mummy. It's been a while since I've been there.
Oxford Castle.
We can walk around most of the university colleges.
St. Michael's Tower. It's a thousand years old.
You can take photos of spots where religious martyrs were burned.
And then the memorial to the same.
Blenheim Palace? It's expensive though.
The Ashmolean. I think it's doing an exhibit on Mughal India next month.
The Sheldonian
Magdalen has a deer park.
There's the Botanical Gardens.
And Christ Church Gardens.
And if you like Harry Potter we can look around Christ Church too. But not much - I don't got access there like I do at Merton.
The University Church of St. Mary the Virgin has good views from the tower I'm told.
Basically lots of walking and looking at old pretty things.
I'll have to wait until closer to the time to see what kind of plays and concerts are being put on though.

Re: UKitp 11 - Y'all should join us in the fun!
I'm going to book the Premier Inn room tomorrow for the Friday (9th March) and Saturday (10th March) night. Feel free to join me or not as you please.

Re: UKitp 11 - Y'all should join us in the fun!
Well, I always like sharing a bite of everyone's meal when I'm eating with people, and that's pretty much exactly what tapas is.
All that sounds pretty good to me. I'm not particularly interested in martyrs, if I'm honest, and I'm not too fussed on expensive stuff, but I'm not gonna object to anything. I applied for a job at the Ashmolean, btw.

Oddly, I actually know the curator (Dr. Perkins), I had him last term for some classes.
My world.
I like this idea. And any time should be good for me, as I'm really inclined to just come down and stay the whole week if possible...

Well, really, who else would we be having sex with in your rooms?
Well, potentially each other I suppose. It'd still seem rude though, unless you were involved. Or maybe if you were out and left us alone in your rooms.
...WHY AM I PUTTING SO MUCH THOUGHT INTO THIS?

Re: UKitp 11 - Y'all should join us in the fun!
There's a fair-to-middling chance that I might make this one...

O_o
This sounds like a story that needs telling.
Also, Oxford is probably doable for me in generic terms, there's a direct train line from here to there. Not going to be free this March, though. I could maybe make a summer one.

Re: UKitp 11 - Y'all should join us in the fun!
Room booked and it's a double, so if there's a group of us staying at the hotel we have a fairly large space to congregate if needed.

Re: UKitp 11 - Y'all should join us in the fun!
i feel like i should say i have from Wed 7th March off...
i haven't worked on my birthday since i was 18.
Edit: is suddenly aware of just how long ago that is! :smalleek::smallfrown:
-
Re: UKitp 11 - Y'all should join us in the fun!
So we could do a double birthday thingy for Archie and Koorly, or at the very least have a gargantuan cake.

Re: UKitp 11 - Y'all should join us in the fun!
Thufir. Can you please book me a ticket for Pirates on the Friday.
EDIT: Will there be a floor available for me to sleep on as well?
-
Re: UKitp 11 - Y'all should join us in the fun!
YAAAAAAAY!
Hey, Guy-Formerly-Known-As-Glug. I told Shyaporn, and he replied back, and I told him what you told me. Don't suppose you have that picture of you there lying around somewhere, do you?

We can definitely fit you in somewhere.
Edit: If anyone else wants to come to Pirates, the option is still open, despite how close it's getting. Hell, if you call me up on Thursday, Friday or Saturday and say "I'm coming to Pirates! Arriving at [place] at [time]," I will figure something out for you.

I believe the 9th of March factors into that to make a triple.:smallamused:
and there will be cake even if I have to buy one

Yay, thanks. Just been watching some of the NUGSS videos of Pinnafore on Youtube :smalltongue:
Oh, also, can you book a second ticket, someone I know at Newcastle Uni wants to come too.

Sure. If I'm honest I'm pretty sure I could fit four, maybe five people down for floorspace, although it would be a little cramped. More if people really scooched up.
People coming:
Curly
Serps
Thufir
Archie
Mercenary_Pen
The Succubus
Maybes:
-Lime-
Grlump
Heliomance - seriously, not even one day off at all? :smallfrown:

Cash is also a major concern for me. I have very little money, and my only income is my student loan. Until and unless I get a job, travel isn't really feasible.

Re: UKitp 11 - Y'all should join us in the fun!
So, the Oxford mini-meet - how like a regular meet are we going to make it?
Should I bring games? Or maybe even try to take up the DM's mantle if I feel ambitious? Or will we be too busy helping Serp sight-see?
More importantly, looking back, I wrote up my meetup blog post. Thanks to the people from whom I borrowed words and/or photos (You are thanked in the post as well). I hope people find some amusement and/or nostalgia in it.

Might be an idea to bring a game or two for the late evenings when we're all tired after the day's debauchery. Not masses like a normal meet but perhaps some of the more portable ones like Munchkin, etc.

Two things:
1) How in the name of Hades are you getting from London to Oxford and back for £15?! I'm looking at at least £30ish on thetrainline.com....
2) I'm sure if we dedicate the entire weekend to it, we might even get as far as Phase 3. :smalltongue:
