There was no harm done in the end as the result was the same (though the matches themselves were much closer the second time). KBF can give a better ruling on this when he gets back on but I'd recommend you remember to save your replays either way.
Replays, Senility and a hard-ass who kept claiming to be "the law".
If you go to "Config" from the main menu, set the Replay Save setting to Always, this won't be a problem..
But I'm going to have to ask that everyone do that.

This is tricky, because it's inevitable. If the lag is unusually high for the players playing, I'll look into it.

Here are the replays for Round 1: Driz Vs. SC. I won, but it wasn't easy, and SC had injured his thumb beforehand.

Just played against Alter. He kicked my butt :smalltongue:
We were not able to obtain a witness, but since we have badly matching schedules and we had an opportunity, we took it.
Here are the replays. http://www.mediafire.com/?5ueffvhb8ruyu3j
The two Patchouli vs Sakuya matches are the real matches, the other two were just for fun that we did afterword.

Sakuya has three skills: Knives, More Knives and Messing About. The last part consists of dealing with time and space.
Spell cards are much the same.

Imagine a maid character in a fighting game. To win the round you must first throw knives, then more knives then finally mess about.
Spell cards work the same way.

Bracket
Seraphian has provided an IRC channel:
irc://irc.deltaanime.net/hisoutensoku
As previously noted:
- Games are played best of 3 sets.
- When registering for the tournament please register what character you will use in the first round; you must always use this character in the first round. At the end of a set who ever lost is allowed to change characters for the next set. This is to prevent unfair counter picking first round, and to make character selection simpler in general.
- Sanctioned matches must have at least one other registered player watching as a referee, make sure to save replays in case of contested matches. If you feel the ref was biased or otherwise a case of an unfair ref send a PM and the replays.
Games will be held using Tunngle, in Tunngle's 12.3 lobby.
If possible, please try to coordinate with at least a ref, but hopefully a streamer and commentators via the chat room of the GitP Hisoutensoku Steam Group. Also, please post the coordinated time for your match for the convenience of the refs, streamers and commentators.
If you are interested in streaming or commentating, show up and be available in the group chat room, watch for match times, and/maybe send a PM or a Steam message to KBF.

Re: Touhou II: Story of an Eastern Thread
There are a couple of massive gripes I have with the game.
A: River Mists, who thought this was a good idea?
B: It's sometimes rather annoying when it's impossible to tell if an opponent can be hit during the spinning in air animation. Largely because there is no way.

The dartboard, which dictates all things.

Flail anyway. It's what I do.
I am not a good player, no.
Also: Streaming. That's, uh, going to be tricky. If Driz, or anyone spectating can steam, sure, that's great. Otherwise, it may be difficult. And, uh, laggy. Could experiment with some practice matches first, I suppose.

Re: Touhou II: Story of an Eastern Thread
I know that I cannot stream while playing. I just don't have enough bandwidth. I might be able to Fraps and Youtube the matches after the fact though.

Re: Touhou II: Story of an Eastern Thread
And speaking of talking about the actual games...
The Ten Desires demo is out.
Seems like one of the harder games in the series, also seems to feature a lot of returning characters as bosses. At least there are two out of the four actual characters that are bosses in the demo. The new bosses are quite cute too. They also have interesting gimmicks. Kyouko, the one with the funny ears is the stage 2 boss and steals Reimu's border hax from IN, while Miyako, the hopping vampire who is the stage 3 boss, brings selfhealing to the table on her final spellcard.
-
Re: Touhou II: Story of an Eastern Thread
Ah, thanks for the link.
Well, as far as the demo goes, nothing too wow-worthy, but not bad. The second boss's barrier hax blindsided me completely. I still have no idea how the mechanics work, either - I gather geathering those wisps is good, but I have no idea what they do.
However, I have a gripe. Marisa's laser is no longer penetrating! I mean, continuous penetrating lasers are a classic of the genre since Gradius, if you have lasers at all they have to be penetrating! :smallmad:

This is Touhou fan code for "does not give out a million lives", yes? Third boss on lunatic is pretty annoying with that healing though I gotta admit.
This is alright for a Touhou game I think, if only because it doesn't let you hide at the bottom of the screen all game if you wanna get any items. Charging right up next to dudes and spamming charge shots all game means I can pretend I'm some sorta Panzer Jager/RX-10 hybrid, too, and I can get right behind that.

Re: Touhou II: Story of an Eastern Thread
I think iit's a little too easy even in normal and hard... And the third stage boss I think she was a Zombie because her position is a zombie position...
Gameplay with Youmu is cool even if I hate Youmu...

Lasers in Gradius typically don't penetrate though. Unless it's like, disruptor or something, and nobody likes disruptor. Cyclone laser is like a bazillion times cooler than disruptor. Disruptor sucks.

Taking into account both the outstretched arms and what looks like a charm pasted to her forehead, I'd agree with the undead route. No idea what the second one is supposed to be though.

Re: Touhou II: Story of an Eastern Thread
Just gave it a quick mess around there and my first impression is; playing with Youmu first will only disappoint you. I chose Youmu first and thought that her mechanics(her charge-up attack when focusing) was for everyone, and I was dying to see the other's versions of it. Went in to them afterwards and was disappointed(Reimu's homing-unfocused/straight fire-focused is nifty, Marisa's... Why? Just WHY?! Direct fire for focused and unfocused?(admitedly, this was just messing around on first stage for two seconds. If one of her attacks does change, I'll take this back.), Sanae's spread-focused(which reminds of UFO's Marisa-B))
And when I saw Yuyuko, I thought each character would have their own stage 1 and boss(Reimu-Yukari, Marisa-Alice?, Sanae-Kanako/Suwako), but Yuyuko is the only boss for stage 1. Bah. And why is she a stage one boss for everyone? I can imagine a friendly sparring match between her and Youmu, but Sanae? Who she's never met before? Here's hoping the translation makes sense of that.
The bombs are okay, all round. I think the new ones are pretty cool.
- Reimu: Fantasy Seal. Eh, been there, done that.
- Marisa: Ah, good old Master Spark. It tilts direction when you move which is kinda nifty, but not really useful.
- Sanae: HOLY SPOOSH PENTAGRAM TO THE FACE! The bomb seems only decent, but it does look pretty cool.
- Youmu: Can't really tell how powerful it is yet, per say. I'm not really a fan of screen-wipe bombs either, but her bomb is freakin' AWESOME. Ahhn~ Just... J-Just ahhn~
The whole overdrive-when-you-die thing is pretty cool, and I love Youmu's especially. Just the thought of her hacking-and-slashing like hell at whatever's infront of her:smallbiggrin:.
The music... It's good, yeah, but it feels really different from ZUN's other stuff. Not saying that that's a bad thing, but it feels a little odd for some reason. Then again, you can see there's still a resemblance to UFO and Fairy Wars, so it didn't come smack-bang out of nowhere.
The stages and bosses themselves are alright. I didn't notice anything particularly good or bad about them. The stage 2 boss is cute when she doesn't have her drunk look on, though I can't tell if those things on her head are ribbons or ears. Stage 3 boss(Yes I've forgotten their names already. Shut up.) I think might be a Jiang Shi, judging by the talisman on her head(I know the talisman is depicted being used against various other undead in that manner, but I've only really seen it applied to Jiang Shi. Also makes sense, seeing as she's a zombie, and all.). Also, I actually thought that the talisman was part of her hat on first glance. I may need to go get my eyes checked.:smalleek:
Oh, and

omake.txt says 山彦, which the internet says is some sorta echo youkai. Seems thematically appropriate with the bouncy attacks.

Re: Touhou II: Story of an Eastern Thread
So I went on and downloaded the demo. Thoughts:
- Youmu's focus mechanic is interesting, but short range is short - probably not something for someone with my limited amount of skill.
- The new sound chime on death of things feels like it'll get old fast methinks
- Second stage boss was quite entertaining
- The "berzerk" or whatever thing on death is neat. Wonder what triggers it though (It didn't seem to happen every time)
- I wonder what the bloe "blobs" are for. Probably another score increasing mechanic.
Oh and as much as I think Spark is showing his Elitest side, he might be right about this not being as Terraoblivion says.
Edit: Oh and circle-healthbars from Fairy Wars, I approve

Re: Touhou II: Story of an Eastern Thread
The blue blobs, or spirits, are used to charge up ghost mode, while the purple ones give pieces of extra lives and the green ones bomb pieces. The ghost mode seems to power you up and probably increases the gain from the spirits. In addition to triggering on death, you can also toggle it on with C apparently. This is pretty much the full extent of my knowledge of how the gameplay works beyond the obvious.
I also think Miscast Mage got it about what Miyako, the stage 3 boss, is. I couldn't recall the name, but I knew what kind of being she seems based on. They are pretty amusing in actual Chinese folklore, due to how utterly derpy they are.
As for what the stage 2 boss is, I think this is a summary of who and what she is. "The character on the left is Kasodani Kyoko, who is basically the Japanese equivalent of Echo. She's a youkai who returns echoes to happy voices on mountains, but recently a superstition that echoes are reflections of sound waves has spread (...yeah.) so she started practicing Buddhism. She started being feared by humans because they thought hymns were emanating from uninhabited mountains. She entered Gensokyo relatively recently and currently stays with Byakuren."
