You do remember the canon answer to that question is 'gather a group and sing songs', right?

Well considering it is a fairly high probability they are manually correcting for a catastrophic tide-lock (or even loss of the original stellar bodies) situation, so a natural (as opposed to Windigo) created winter would barely phase them (si long as the sun/moon cycle continues, anyway).

It's also canon that it works.

That and magical rainbow lasers are pretty much the canon answer to every question.

I feel I should bring it to the attention of ponythread for anyone, who does not follow Estee, they are having a REALLY crappy time right now. (Like, catastrophically bad.)
If ever there was a time to go to Fimfic and be pony at people, it is now, to Estee.
*takes off deadly serious hat*
In less... terrible news, I had a go with the aforementioned GLA Hyena and reduced the quad cannon size by 10% (well, technically 27.1% volumetrically). Looks much better.
I also spent four straight hours yesterday spruing up a few models as i.materialise (potential Shapeways replacement) wanted to have a proper look. So we shall see what they say.

Is there a higher-res version of that twilight cannon that is easier to read? If not, can someone transcribe the blue-background text (lower 2/3rds)?

Need some more eyes, again, if you wouldn't mind...
GLA Air Superiority Platform (ASP). (Not quite complete yet, but before I can finish…)
Spoiler: I'll puncture the next thing that moves
Show
Which is better?
Top: (Modifed BM-27 hull, with guns in MRLS turret position)
Middle: (Modifed BM-27 hull, with turret moved forwards)
Bottom: (BM-27 hull shortened, wheel base altered.)

The bottom one looks better, but the top one (with the cannon moved towards the cab plus some ballast at the back) would make more sense as the extra space at the back would handle the recoil. Unless, of course, you have some sort of stabilizers to unfold for actual firing.

Really liked the Kirin, especially the talking one who was absolutely adorable the whole episode. This episode probably could've benefited from a longer run time to develop the plot, but they did a good job with what they had. 9/10, second favorite episode of the season after The Washouts

Yeah this one is easily top 3 with Road to Friendship on my list (still debating the 3rd one).
Autumn Blaze I think is the talkative kirin? Yeah, so cute! Poor thing having a "Castaway" moment was endearing, and the "Wait right here a moment" to go yell behind a rock and vent her frustration. The song is pretty good too.

Applejack and Fluttershy aren't bad in the episode by any means, but Autumn Blaze really nails it. She comes across as the Kirin equivalent of Pinkie Pie. She also manages to pull off a character song that I actually like - When the song started my reaction was heading towards "not another <insert profanasaurus here> Smile, Smile, Smile" only to switch to actually laughing at the "Seriously, there's only so long Sodoku can keep you entertained".
My dislike of a lot of the songs in the series isn't a secret (I'm not a fan of songs in a story), but on the other hand it does make the really good ones something special.

The songs I generally like from the show have been in the early seasons. I dunno if just lot of ideas or I'm just burned out on pony tunes, but... seems like it's harder to remember music past season 3.

I think MLP uses them pretty effectively to do a lot of exposition or scene setting in a short amount of time.

I think that's sort of the problem - a lot of the later music is very... Telling A Thing Musically, rather than Being A Song, if you take my meaning. Too expository, if you take my meaning, to be something to be casually listened to, while, say, doing CAD work.
Really, the last songs that I found caught was in Crusaders of the Lost Mar (and I have a particular like of the CMC songs anyway).

Re: My Little Pony XCIX: Leakier Than A Changeling Bathtub!
Fan Fic question:
So ... Hard Reset has a sequel, and that sequel has ... three different sequels?!?
What do I read after A Stitch in Time --
The Rein of Queen Twilight Sparkle
You Can Fight Fate
Changing Lives
... FimFiction lists Rein, but it's marked mature, the others are marked teen.
And ... "Sex" + "Gore"?
-
Re: My Little Pony XCIX: Leakier Than A Changeling Bathtub!
You Can Fight Fate is the actual sequel. You should read that one.
I haven't read The Reign of Queen Twilight Sparkle, and I would suggest considering carefully whether you really want to. It is a side story and, as I understand it, it is very dark - it follows the descent into madness and despair of the version of Twilight in the timeline from Hard Reset's alternate ending, and A Stitch in Time's 5th chapter, The Darkest Timeline. It pretty much amounts to watching every shred of happiness and hope get slowly crushed out of the protagonist, I believe, a rather sharp contrast to the recovery and heroism of the main storyline.
Changing Lives is another side story, focusing on Cloud Kicker, and should be read last if you're interested in that.

The Kirin, and Autumn Blaze in particular, are the cutest deer/lion/dragon/unicorn things. I like that they didn't move like ponies; outside of walking Autumn was leaping about more like a deer or goat.

Heh, never tried that it a can. Probably tastes a bit different compared to the glass bottle. And by different I mean "not as good". :smalltongue:
Yeah, I like the little detail on how they move about differently.

I have never seen it in cans actually, only bottles. I used to drink it at my favourite Japanese restaurant, but they closed, and I think they might have been importing it themselves because I haven't seen it elsewhere.
In general I prefer to buy beer in cans. They recycle better, are lighter, and keep the beer fresher by excluding all light and sealing better. I always pour them into a glass to drink though. Japanese beers OTOH seem to be designed to drunk from the bottle; they even use better bottles with smoother edges at the top.

Re: My Little Pony XCIX: Leakier Than A Changeling Bathtub!
So we started a game of Dungeon Crawl Classics today, to give me a week or few's break from DMing. Seven players, three level 0 characters each (2/3 were pre-generated by the DM).
In typical form, we made it through the first session with no casualties. (Of course, unlike a lot of groups, we are far too cohesive - I mean, I've been playing with some of the guys for thirty years! - so there is an outside chance that the DM might be writing an angry letter to the game designers about how the hell is he supposed to deal with twenty-one first level characters, because his players won't bicker among themselves...!
(For my part, my stats immediately indicated "thief-type" with low intelligence... So I immediately decided we'd got to have the ditzy valley-girl-in-fantasy. She's even, approrpiately, a weaver by profession, so there's even the fashion thing, kinda...! (Especially as my favourite character, Helen-Jennifer Silk (Hel-Jen) started out as a Jubilee clone. I only get to NPC Hel-Jen these days, so I am going to make the fricking most out of Hel-Jen-but-thick while I can. So Cutrate Hel-Jen was named Nejleh Linin ('cos y'know, linen is a cheaper material than silk...!))

The question is: Is Kirrin an ale or a lager? What style--color, texture, flavors? Is it better cold or room temperature?
(I know a crapload about booze for someone that doesn't touch the stuff.)

It's a pale lager. Not substantially different in style to the more common (here at least) Asahi and Sopporo, maybe a little more malt. Best served cold.
