Re: Pathfinder Grab Bag Competition Chat Thread II: New Thread smell included!
Just went through a third party book for 3.5e and found The Soldier of Truth. A warrior who believes in one truth: Everything is a Lie. And with this, they can defy the laws of physics to do awesome stuff...
Yeah... I'm totally making a PF conversion....

Re: Pathfinder Grab Bag Competition Chat Thread II: New Thread smell included!
If we're still taking ideas for next contest, I'd like to put That's All Folks! (Cartoon Physics) back on the ballot.
I think I've reached a good stopping point for freshman level courses. I'd like some honest feedback for my concept of tuition/financial aid, along with any other comments.

Re: Pathfinder Grab Bag Competition Chat Thread II: New Thread smell included!
Alright, I've got one: Plato's Pride. A contest theme pertaining to the Platonic solids, shapes regarded as perfect by the ancient world. If they look familiar, they should. They make up all the D&D's standard dice except for the d10.

I call the d12!

Re: Pathfinder Grab Bag Competition Chat Thread II: New Thread smell included!
I'd like to see Monster Master back on the ballot.
And my fiance' was a fan of We Built This City. She'd vote for that if she'd ever remember.
Edit: Offspring of Stinson ideas...
The bro code (Su): You must be of a lawful alignment. You react to spells as though you were chaotic.
What do you even do for a living? (Ex): You gain 150 gold, every month, for the purposes of procuring room and board. Any excess gold not needed to pay for room and board disappears when you receive your next payment, possibly to pay for gambling expenses.
Suit up (Ex): This creature wears only the finest and most expensive garments. It begins play with a suit of Noble's Clothing, complete with jewelry and ornamentation. While wearing clothing worth 70 gold or more, the Offspring of Stinson gains a +2 suit bonus to will saves.
Legen - wait for it - dary (Su): The Offspring of Stinson is a master of the game, pickup lines, and taking advantage of the mildly inebriated. This knowledge is inherent to their nature, and so strong that it is passed down to their children, should they choose to have them. The offspring of stinson may, at their whim, become infertile or fertile until they decide otherwise. While fertile, the chances that an offspring of stinson would conceive a child are increased to 75%. Children of the offspring of stinson always inherit the offspring of stinson template.
The offspring of stinson gains Glibness as a spell-like ability usable 1/day, at a CL equal to their hit dice.
they also gain Bluff, Diplomacy, and Perform as class skills. The offspring of Stinson is a master of body language and innuendo. He knows at least one reasonably successful pickup line in every language, and gains a +1 on checks involving pickup lines for every rank he has in Linguistics, Bluff, and Perform (oratory).

Re: Pathfinder Grab Bag Competition Chat Thread II: New Thread smell included!
I'd like to suggest Now You See Me... Performance Magic.

Re: Pathfinder Grab Bag Competition Chat Thread II: New Thread smell included!
I realize that this could possibly end up feeling like stepping on toes, but perhaps Those That Came Before, building off previous contest entries (or just someone else's homebrew in general).
Edit: BTW, the community SRD has updated with the mythic rules here, for the people wanting to see them in the last few weeks.
Edit 2: I've been really busy the last week or so and I'm not sure if it's going to slow down in time, but I do feel obligated to at least try to do something. I'm considering doing some kind of luck based class, most probably a supporter that focuses on making his allies the big damn heroes. Any opinions on that idea?

Re: Pathfinder Grab Bag Competition Chat Thread II: New Thread smell included!
Well I just got back from holiday and I'll say third law.

We just can't get past that one, can we?
Hopefully it gets taken this time, finally.

Third Law is like Thunderdome. You can never get BEYOND THUNDERDOME!!! :smalltongue:
Anywho, the power of barcana has finally been revealed! I'd say I've got about 80% of the courses completed and 90% of the items. Only thing left for courses are things like Speech and Underwater Basket Weaving.
Don't think I was going to forget about UBW... :smallcool:
EDIT: I think all that's left for courses is the last three tiers of sports. Minors are where things are going to come together for added bonuses. Average build will have 2-3 minors without taking Extra Audit.
EDIT 2: Minors are up and running. I'd say that the class is complete enough for entry, but will likely see an equipment update here and there before the deadline.

Re: Pathfinder Grab Bag Competition Chat Thread II: New Thread smell included!
Ok, got my submission up.
The Talisman of Terror, a magical item template. I mean, we don't have to follow the normal rules, right?
It's basically a particularly cunning and evil intelligent item. What makes it extra scary is that it can possess other items and make them evil as well. If you keep one in your inventory for too long, you'll find yourself with two or three, then half a dozen. Then, when you least expect it, half of your gear suddenly stops working, or even provides a penalty.
And when you die, they all make themselves stronger by harvesting your soul, and they wait patiently for the next lucky traveler to pick up his loot.
I'll try and revue everyone else's submissions soon.
Any opinions on the ToT would be greatly appreciated.

That is awesomely creepy and I support it.

How about "Us Regular Folks" as the NPC theme's name.
Additionally, for a new theme, let's try "Mix and Match", mixing two existing classes/items/monsters/etc.
-
Re: Pathfinder Grab Bag Competition Chat Thread II: New Thread smell included!
For NPC -
Haven't I met you before?
or
If it has a Name it's Important!
or
If You Can't Play them...

What does this mean exactly?

Well, to cite an example from core pathfinder, the Magus (merging Wizard and Fighter), or the Arcane Trickster (combining arcane spellcasting with rogue-ish skills and abilities), or the classic monster the Chimera, a mix of about half-a-dozen creatures. The idea being to take the powers and traits of two disparate classes or creatures, and try to merge them.

Edit:
Here's a rundown on the Bad Dude!
I honestly don't have much to say other than it amuses me greatly.
It's definitely more powerful than anything pre-epic, but is still so ridiculously weaker than anything that was actually expected of epic gameplay back in DnD that I could see this actually being allowed. My only gripe is that it should require a BaB of +20 and not +21, since that would require you to already have levels in an epic class.

Not quite. A warrior 2/ fighter 19 has the same CR as a fighter 20. He loses the capstone, and the extra feat, but he picks up an extra hit die and BAB.

Tanuki's Point still stands... setting up a class so that you assume the player takes NPC levels is never a really good idea.

Are there GMs who use CR over Character Level for regular levels instead of just "LA"? :smallconfused:

Not I, said the Burke.
-
Re: Pathfinder Grab Bag Competition Chat Thread II: New Thread smell included!
I'm with Tanuki-san on this. BAB 21, even at straight full BAB, would require epic levels. I'm fixing the requirements.
-
Re: Pathfinder Grab Bag Competition Chat Thread II: New Thread smell included!
We need three more themes guys! And if you haven't voted, please do so. I think today is the last day.
-
Re: Pathfinder Grab Bag Competition Chat Thread II: New Thread smell included!
Vote, indeed! We didn't have too many entries last time, so it should be fairly easy.
-
Re: Pathfinder Grab Bag Competition Chat Thread II: New Thread smell included!
:smallconfused: :smallsigh: I can vote today, but Tanuki posted that yesturday, so it might be already done.

Go ahead and vote, I guess, and let the internet chips fall where they may?
Not sure if that's the right metaphor, at all.
-
Re: Pathfinder Grab Bag Competition Chat Thread II: New Thread smell included!
Themes (Posting multiple, pick your favorite. Don't take them all just because I suggest them, but others can feel free to second one of these)
Root of all evil - Money, greed, gambling.
The road less travelled - Drugs, alcohol, addiction.
Augmented reality - Going crazy, altered perceptions, illusions.
With style - Showmanship, flair, self-expression.
You're so meta - Thinking outside the box, divine intervention, messing with game rules.
-
Re: Pathfinder Grab Bag Competition Chat Thread II: New Thread smell included!
Theme: Macguffin - entries must be plot setting hooks that revolve around a powerful item. The item must be stated out, and a synopsis of the intended plot for this item.
