Re: The Post-Kickstarter Discussion Thread: Bask in the Afterglow
Not to drag up the stuff that Roland so wisely squashed, but I just wanted to mention that I decided to use Kickstarter precisely BECAUSE we had problems last year. I was worried about not raising enough to reprint even the first book, and if I didn't meet the original goal, it would be easier to cancel the KS drive than it would be to refund everyone.
And for the record, the vendor that had bailed was the credit card processing company. They held on to everyone's money for six months, claiming that we couldn't have any of it until we had delivered the books...but we needed the money to print the books. We had to secure outside loans in order to get it done at all, and we couldn't say anything for fear of them holding our money indefinitely. (This was also a point in KS's favor, since they expect you to get the money before the product is ready.) But everyone got their book, so I have no idea why anyone would still be that angry about it a year later.
---------------------
Anyway, the surveys are going out well ahead of the books. The money won't even hit my bank account until the middle of March, and I can't even start the reprinting process until then. The only thing I've ordered are the magnets, which I could pay for from my savings. They should be shipped from the manufacturer on March 6, arriving in Houston a few days later, and then the magnet-only packages should start mailing right after that.

Re: The Post-Kickstarter Discussion Thread: Bask in the Afterglow
I think I filled my survey in and submitted it correctly- but how do I tell for sure? Does it email later confirming the survey's been submitted properly?

You're giving yourself a few days to wallow in the million+ dollars that you so rightfully got before you have to invest it all, right? Because seriously, you deserve at least 24 hours of wallowing. I'm sure Haley could give you some helpful hints on how to best optimize your wallowing in a giant pile of money.

Pro-tip #1: Withdraw all of the money in coins, preferably pennies and nickels.

Not if the money is a bit soft and crumpled or ragged around the edges. Personally, I'd go for a mix. And don't forget to take pictures of the check and Giant's Hoard and frame them on the wall. :smalltongue:

Only when you only have a few of them. Scrooge McDuck's money tower proves that coins act similarly to ninjas; deadly when in small numbers, but when in large numbers (such as the Kickstarter proceeds) they become flimsy & soft, allowing them to be swam through.

Go for it, your idea. I just came up with making the colors match Kickstarter. Although if you do simpy quote it you might want to change the yellow to orange so it shows up better. I'm just really, really glad that things seem to be going well with the deposits so far from the drive. Of course I don't think KickStarter would want the bad press from this either considering all the good press so far.

Re: The Post-Kickstarter Discussion Thread: Bask in the Afterglow
I just filled out the survey form for my $25 art pledge.
I was totally nervous because I feared I might have made an error somewhere along the line.
the survey felt like a little comforting checklist that everything should be ok.
yes, I added $10 for international shipping.
I added *insert* 1 */insert* "I participated" badge for $4.
no, I didn't add any books.
I think I should be fine.
now bracing myself for the long wait until the stuff actually ships/arrives. ^^

Re: The Post-Kickstarter Discussion Thread: Bask in the Afterglow
my husband got his survey for his $32 (plus tons of extras) pledge, while i pledged for a crayon drawing and have no survey yet. so i eagerly sat beside him while he filled out his survey and got all excited over the whole thing.
i keep thinking: "it's just a survey... why am i so thrilled...?" and then i remember all the glorious excitement of refreshing the kickstarter page each morning and cheering over how much money was raised.
so, yeah, i am very eagerly awaiting my pledge survey. :thog:

Re: The Post-Kickstarter Discussion Thread: Bask in the Afterglow
I like the backers choices and I am sure we all will enjoy the stories very much*
As to the backers choice stories:
My personal ranking in the matter would be:
Cliffport PD
Pre-Order Belkar
Therkla
I kinda wondered which charakter I would have picked.
Sure Belkar is great (and Self-proclaimed Comedy Gold) but I would have gone with someone less spotlight e.g. The Monster in the Dark.
I sort of like those 'minor NPCs'*
The CPPD was in my hit list too, so I am glad someone chose them.
Therkla is a fine choice, a good charakter and I like her, but we already Know a Bit of her.
I think I would have chosen Solt Lorkyurg the Gnome spice trader, I Wonder what would have come up with him. I almost forgot him until I saw him in the kickstarter picture.

The $1250 reward packages, an 8-12 story on the OOTS character of your choice. He's got three of those.

I think he meant what will the stories be about. From what I've read (but couldn't find a link to) the stories are:
Belkar, pre OotS
Therkla, the Half-Orc ninja girl
Cliffport Police Department

I made a mistake on the $114 "PIck Three plus The Shortening" survey where I asked if backers added $6 for Sticky Shticks. That's unnecessary; Sticky Shticks is included in all game packages, including that one. Everyone at that level will be getting it for free and does not need to have added $6 for it.
(I was worried too)

Re: The Post-Kickstarter Discussion Thread: Bask in the Afterglow
I have a $10 pledge and haven't gotten a survey in my e-mail or my Kickstarter messages. I have double checked the spam folder and can't figure out any other way to check the Kickstarter thing. I checked the last six or seven pages of the thread by searching 'survey,' but haven't seen an answer as to what I ought to do.
Any suggestions? I don't want to bug Rich directly unless it's the only way to get a copy of the survey, because God knows the man has enough to do right now. :P

Try logging in to Kickstarter (using the same account you pledged under), going to the OOTS project home (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/...-reprint-drive), and looking at the list of pledge rewards on the right-hand side of the screen. If you pledged for the $10 reward, then that level should have a green "YOU SELECTED" box next to it. Hopefully, it will also have a link somewhere nearby to your survey.

Re: The Post-Kickstarter Discussion Thread: Bask in the Afterglow
New update and final pledge total:
Quote:
So we've gotten the final tally for how many pledges went through, and the total of all pledges that were dropped (due to irresolvable processing errors or the like) added up to just $3954.00 from 61 backers. That represents just 0.32% of our final pledge total, or less than one-third of one percent. That is shockingly low; you'll remember that I allowed for 5% of all the money pledged to drop out due to complications. So congratulations to you: As a group, you have excellent credit. We also have the final total for how much we paid to Kickstarter and Amazon in fees: $106,799.87, divided up among the two companies in a way that would require more math to explain than I feel like doing. It does represent 11.71% of my completed pledge totals, which is a little higher than I had counted on (10%). Still, given how much extra I had allowed for dropped pledges, it's not a problem at all.
-

Shockingly low? How 'bout almost impossibly low. I mean, seriously, just due to the <BLOOP> Happens and whatnot you would expect a 1%-2% failure rate. To have only 61 backers out of 14,952?? On a drive with this much attention?
Insane.
Utterly utterly insane.
Now if any of the 61 backers who rolled appraently rolled three straight ones are reading this thread, I'll say that my heart goes out to you that you weren't able to get things straightened out. But for everyone else? I have a simple message:
Go Us! :smallcool:
PS: Final Totals:
$1,254,120.00 pledged.
$1,250,166.00 cleared.
$1,143,366.13 raised after fees.
Not bad. Not bad at all.

And it is freaking insane that so few backers 'bounced' their payments. And it was a ludicrously small amount compared to the rest of the drive.

Now that my second to last survey is done, I'm putting more thought into my crayon drawing.
It may be unoriginal, and when it comes to posting it here, there may be 50-100 just like it, but I really want a Haley and V drawing.
Mainly, because This is the first strip I remember ever reading. It was the strip that got me hooked.
And it has been a while since we've seen H and V just hang out together, without existential, psychological or end of the world crisis over their head. Just two friends together. I truly hope they come out together as friends, as unlikely as it seems right now.

To add to that, when you order something online, you only have to pay a state sales tax if the product is being shipped from somewhere in your state, or the company is located in the same state as you (and there is a state sales tax in that state, of course).
