Sneak Attack (Flanked by Girl/Gartrand): [roll2]
Torrim's bolt silently dispatches one of the undead.
The two near Gartrand close in on the wizard, one taking to the pews in its pursuit.
Gartrand runs to the girl and calls out:
Torrim! Get me a sickle!
Torrim runs forward, and fires his crossbow, standing between the wizard, girl, and the two undead. "Feeling a bit paled, today, eh? Such a weak stomach you've got. But, we need you." He turns to the undead.
"Gents, gents. No need to get so tense! Everything is quite fine. There's a bolt in your friends' skulls, but, no need to be jealous. You'll get a pretty one of your own soon enough." Torrim grins once again, aims, and pulls the trigger. "There's a nice start to things." He turns to the other. "I'll get you fixed up nicely in just a minute, sir. Wait right there, patiently if you please, whilst I reload this."

Torrim's bolt again flies true and strikes the undead fatally. The young girl still stands frightened "But what of that fog?" she asks as the other undead glides across the floor silently toward the wizard.

Initiative's broken over there.
SpoilerWhose Action?
Spoiler
Should be Gartrand's.
SpoilerThe thing triggered an AoO from moving in range of Gartrand's melee, didn't it?
Spoiler
It only moved into a threatened square, not through one. Unless I've been doing that wrong all this time, that shouldn't provoke.
Who knows, though. I thought charging gave its bonus to damage rolls as well as attack rolls.
SpoilerCharging doesn't give bonuses to damage rolls?
Spoiler
I know, right? Go re-read it, it only applies to attack rolls (at least in 3.5, I don't think it was changed in PF). I was just as shocked when I read that on /tg/.
Gartrand steps away from the girl and gets ready to dodge all attacks (+4 to AC)
The young girl in white stands still, paralyzed with fright.
The undead horror looks past her and follows the movements of the wizard, striking with its sickle.

Can't update the map, Gimp doesn't seem to want to open at the moment.
It seems the book is not on Nessian's person. However, he does seem to have a good deal of things on him including a couple of flasks (one filled with an orange fluid, the other with a green fluid), a few vials filled with various liquids, his flail, his longbow, some scrolls sticking out of a pocket, a small bag attached to his belt, what appear to be some sticks, and you notice a nice looking earring that he is wearing.
SpoilerIs there anyone left in the church? Is it even a church, or is it a temple, or what?
Torrim runs forward towards the organ, bringing the girl with him, and asks, "Do you know how to play the oathbells? Warning is necessitous, and posthaste."
Spoiler
There is still a thick fog surrounding the organ, completely enshrouding it.
SpoilerHm... Detect magic on that fog.
Gartrand moves and picks up the sickle next to him.
The fog is certainly magical in nature, its aura extends slightly past itself, pale and green.
SpoilerGod, you guys are slow as Hell. I'm back, and only about three posts have been posted related to our side. What have y'all been doing all this week?
"Oh, right, we came for the book." Theodric looks around, seeing if he finds anything that stands out.
SpoilerPerception check: [roll0]
"What type of magick is that?"
Theodric spots a thin, black book lying atop the desk, next to a lit candle. Under it is another book, green, and it seems a few sheets of parchment.
"Hey, here's two books on the table. Now, which one is the one we need...?" Theodric tries to figure out which book is the one they were sent for. His *bright* mind does not think to open the books to read what's inside, or even to just take both.
Dastria runs up to the top floor, hearing Theodric ponder over the books. She calls for Yargos without taking her eyes off Nessian's dead body, all emotion absent from her face.
"Sir Yargos? Please join us upstairs!" Dastria shouts downwards, staring at Nessian's blood running through the cracks in the floor. She finally tears away her eyes, gestures towards Theodric and says
"Please Theodric, give me the books." Her tone is quieter than usual. "Reading clearly isn't your forte."
"Oh, here you go." Theodric grabs the books and parchments from the desk and hands them to Dastria. He then decides to search Nessian's body to see what he has on him. Unlike Amdal, however, Theodric makes no special effort to avoid the blood pools (mainly because he doesn't really care if he gets a little bloody).
SpoilerI figure since Amdal didn't exactly tell everyone what Nessian had on him, Theodric wouldn't know unless he himself looked. Perception/Search check: [roll0]
Dastria rifles through both books looking for a theme that she recognises, a theme that was important to them. "What could be in here that's worth dying for?" she mutters under her breath as she turns the pages, skim reading. Her eyes occasionally dart up to watch Theodric's progress.
"Theodric, anything interesting on him?" she asks, ignoring the halfling.

Theodric:
Spoiler
Same deal as what Amdal saw on him.
The green book seems merely to be a personal journal, it depicts various crimes of all natures that Nessian has had his boys undergo and some that he had done himself. It is a fairly thick book, it seems the Warhounders were a busy lot.
The slimmer black book is filled with what appears to be gibberish. The writing was either done by a complete imbecile or someone wanting to hide something.
"Oh?" the old man's voice echoes through the stair well as he makes his way up. "Is that...do you have the book?"
AMDAL
The halfling grimices at the human's romp through the bloody pool. "Perhaps our trek back through the puddles will wash that off." He grimices again at the idea of swimming through the puddles. Shaking off thoughts off thoughts of cold and wet, he turns to Theodric, "See anything you want? You might could sell that earring. Our magic type friends could probably tell us what these vials and scrolls are. Do you think these sticks are wands or something?" He picks one up and waves it about, obvious not experienced in the art of wand-use.
"Ooh, a coinpurse?" Amdal retrieves the small bag and peers inside.
SpoilerNecro, what time is it IC?
"Wash what off, Amdal?" Theodric is completely oblivious to the blood that now drenches his hands and legs. "That pointy ball on a chain looks kinda interesting, but I don't really know what most of the rest of this stuff is. Should I carry all of it, or will you?" Theodric takes another look at Nessian's flail. He almost looks like he has an idea, but it's hard to tell with the vacant expression he carries around with him any time he's not in a battle.

I have a hunch what that idea Theo has might be. :3
SpoilerOf course you do, Necco. That's the whole reason I put it there. :D
But no mentioning it to the others before I do. :P
Dastria sniggers at the human, covered in blood. "At least that might put you off eating your boot grain, air head," she laughs as she stares intently at the books. In a more composed tone, she calls down "Sir Yargos, we have two books here! One appears to be a personal diary and the other...well...I can't make heads nor tails of it. Could you perhaps?"
Dastria begins to pace around Nessian's body and inspects it once more. "Will those objects be of any use to us? They could be hexed! Perhaps Yargos can tell us more about them," she wonders aloud, avoiding eye contact and continuing her steps.
"Air head? There's air in here?" Theodric starts knocking on his skull in an attempt to see if it's hollow. However, it does not seen to have any hollow spaces in there (okay, maybe one or two).
Eye contact is made between Dastria and Theodric.
"Theodric," Dastria starts in a patronising tone, "When we next come across a marketplace, we'll buy you a brain, okay?" She quickly inspects Theodric. "And don't come too near me when you're covered in blood! Who knows what possessions you could have ruined with that stupid stunt?" She tugs at her backpack to make her point clear. "I've kept clean! It's clearly possible but YOU are covered in blood and..." Dastria frowns at Amdal, "HE is soaked to the bone. Honestly, clean yourselves up. Gosh."
"Miss?" Torrim asks quietly, kneeling down next to the frightened girl, and taking one of her hands in his solemnly. "I know it is disturbing, I know that you are horrified beyond the normal scope of human abilities. But this moment calls for something greater from you, as it does and has from me. We need you to push away those fears, conquer the evil that seeks to take over and destroy this land, dispel the false authority that pushes you down and has subjected you to this monstrosity. We need you to do something you aren't called to do, perhaps are even warned against, something you may not possess any skills with.
"Why? Because the fate of many is at hand. Not just mine, or I would not dare ask it of you. Not just your precious life, not even "merely" those of this town. What I ask, nay, plead with you to do is something that may save the lives of thousands, many just like yourself: bewildered, afraid, kept beneath the surface of the water, struggling to come up." Torrim sighs and stands up for a moment, glancing out past the eery open doors, and then down the aisle to the bloody altar and the bodies.
"I know how you feel. I, too, have felt it: the painful hand of destiny. Some, many have rebelled against it. This is where our paths, gods align, will split: you will accept what is yours. You will take up your hard duty, not for your safety or your pleasure or your hope or your life.
"Nay. I ask you take up your destiny for the salvation of all."
"Ring forth the oathbells."
SpoilerHow long did it take you to come up with all that, Sam? Seriously, I would have tl;dr'd it, but I was bored and didn't want to miss any important details that you might have chosen to say (which you didn't :/). The whole thing except for the last four words (and maybe some of the non-spoken parts) really was not necessary. Leave the monologues to the silly people. :D
Disclaimer: I am not, in any way, intending to insult you via this post. I am only stating that the entire thing could have been more easily summarized.
Spoiler
Hey, there is such a thing as a time for an epic speech. And this was that time, though I apparently didn't hit it.
if you were bored, sorry. I'm a sucker for speeches, especially prepared or (hopefully) epic ones. As to how long it took me, that was written in about 20 minutes or less.
Basically: I wasn't trying to make it easy to summarize. It was an attempt to be in-character, and discuss with a very scared little girl something which is (to her and our level) a MAJOR disaster. :smalleek:
Should I put in an easy-reading version? :smalltongue:
SpoilerI didn't necessarily mean the speech bored me. I just meant I happened to be bored at the time and had nothing else to do, otherwise I likely wouldn't have read it. Also, I just don't feel that then was the best time for your 'epic' speech (I'll explain the quotes in a bit). And I can read it just fine, I don't need it to be translated to American. :P
About those quotes: The reason I put quotes around the word 'epic' is simply because of this link
Looking at the book filled with strange symbols Yargos replies to Dastria "Yes! Oh! Thank the heavens above, this is it!" the excitement seems to have briefly allowed the old historian to forget his age. "Yes, with this we can launch the master abort signal and prevent their ships from rising from the depths! Oh, without you brave souls all of Korthos would be overrun with those undead by the next morn."
"Now, just give me some time and I will have this figured out. Oh, they'll likely have hidden away the flares somewhere..." Yargos trails off lost in the codebook.

The young girl look up to Torrim her face still frozen in shock. As the noble drow's speech comes to an end her face leaves the grim pallor it had assumed and reveals youthful color in her cheeks once more. "I would gladly play the hymns of Oathday, but I cannot see the organ. That thick fog still remains." she says, pointing weakly to the massive ball of fog that consumes the organ.
"What's a flare look like?" Theodric looks around, searching for anything so that when someone's kind enough to describe one to him, he might know where it is. Except, well, he can't see all that well with the blood smeared in his eyes.

"Then this is my destiny." He looks up dramatically.

"Perhaps it is not quite what it's cracked up to be, eh?" He winks, and strides forward around the altar.

"Well, that didn't work too well, did it?" Torrim makes a joke to help reassure the girl, casting a second spell.
SpoilerCasting Faerie Dust to see if there's anything else in the fog.
"Gartrand, could you get out of that stupor and get over here? I know you are shaken and disturbed from such repose as you might be comfortable in with wizardry, but more than a few people need you!"
Gartrand shakes his head, as if to dispel a fog inside it.SpoilerSee what I did there?
He moves up to the altar, scythe in hand. He groans Tell me why I gave him my crossbow again. That would be very useful. I think that there are still a few creatures in there. If you just go in there and check, I'll cover you from here. Don't make me do it."
SpoilerSam, you should know that your spells of the day only refresh after you rest. None of us have had rest.
"They're like small colorful tubes..." the old man says, his nose still buried in the codebook. A moment later with a grunt he exclaims "Ah! I have it, now we just need the flares and we can send the master abort code!"
--
"Uh-m..." the young girl still seems quite in shock as she moves out of the pews into the centre aisle. She looks on into the fog, the emotions of rage, sadness, shock, and determination all playing across her young face.
AMDAL
Amdal bundles up the loot and hands it to Theodric. "Here, you can carry this stuff, unless Dastria wants to examine it further." Amdal then begins searching for the flares.

Perception: [roll0]
SpoilerI am well aware of what is normally the prerequisite for learning/having spells. As such, I basically didn't get to cast Dispel Magic. However, Faerie Dust is an at will spell, so that still counts.
"I believe this crossbow is mine," Torrim whispers as he stands back. "And silence for the choice of the innocent. If you can aid in any way, do so. Without opening your mouth, if at all possible." He waits with concern on his face, glancing from the girl to the mist, watching it curl menacingly on the floor. "What happens here is of immeasurable importance."
