The Wolf Game - Stranded in space - Blackout
The Wolf Game - Stranded in space
The smell of smoke permeated the air as the life support systems could no longer scrub the artificial atmosphere fast enough to keep up with the demands placed on it. The alarms had been blaring continuously for hours and it seemed that everyone was too busy to shut them off... Or there was no one left alive with the clearance to do so. Every once in a while gunfire could be heard along the vast corridors of the battleship as the crew fought relentlessly against the traitors that had thought they could take the ship easily. An explosion rocked the ship and not for the first time the survivors hoped nothing critical went with it.
The captain along with a few other crew members had managed to reach the bridge after an entire day of fighting. With most of the systems down and the ship running on auxiliary power the elevators were rendered useless. Which made navigating the massive ship a major pain especially when maniacs that thought they could hijack an alliance battleship welded doors shut in your path and fought you every step of the way. The traitors had struck during the ships night cycle when most of the crew was asleep. They had introduced some kind of worm in the ships systems that made everything aside from life support and a few other critical systems malfunction. Now two and a half million tons of technology was nothing more than a strangely shaped rock drifting along in space.
After breaching the doors to the bridge the small group that accompanied the captain spread out to assess the situation. Another similar team had hopefully managed to take over the ships core by now and would be restoring full power to the ship. The captain sat in his chair trying to decipher the mess of information that scrolled on his screens. The blaring of the alarms kept going at full strength and it was starting to get on his nerves.
"Someone deactivate those bloody alarms."
"Yes sir!" The reply came from a young lieutenant that normally worked at a gun battery.
As the captain started making sense of the status readouts on his screens the alarms died down and an eerie silence took their place as only the sounds of his companions working to restore systems on the bridge could be heard. All they could do now with the limited capabilities they had was attempt to scrub the worm from the computers and pray the other team would succeed in their mission... their contingency plan was just too terrible to contemplate.
Spoiler: RULES
Show
The game is played in turns that consist of two different phases.
There's a day phase that happens from dawn ‘til dusk in game. This period typically lasts 48 hours (certain abilities, items or events may alter the duration). During this time all the players try to decide who the Traitors are by voting for them. Votes are done in red text. You may change your vote if you wish, in which case, you should edit your previous post and strike-through your previous vote. Once the day has ended, whoever has the most votes is removed from the game (Lynched).
Note: In the event of a tie no one gets lynched!
The 25% Rule is in effect!
Auto-lynches: If a player fails to vote for three day phases, they will die a terrible death. If you cannot post for whatever reason for longer periods of time please notify me in advance.
The next phase is the night phase, which lasts from dusk ‘til dawn. This phase typically lasts 24 hours (certain abilities, items or events may alter the duration). During this phase, anyone that has a special action to perform during that time does so via PM. This is the phase of the game where the traitors decide who to kill.
Events: There will be certain events during the day. They may or may not offer advantages to players. Usually events will be opportunities to acquire items.
Spoiler: ROLES
Show
Spoiler: CREW
Show
Captain: You are the captain of the Invincible and your word carries extra weight. Your vote counts double.
Vigilante: You have a concealed side arm with one last round. You can use it to kill someone at any time during the day. Doing so will immediately end the day and no lynch will occur.
Engineer: One of the surviving ship engineers. You can repair or recharge one item during the night. You start with a random item.
Marine: With enough fire power anyone can be safe... You can choose to protect one player during the night from being night killed. You can also choose to protect yourself.
Psyker: You were part of a secret project to enhance humans. Although the program did not have the desired effects you can still scan the mind of other people during the night to determine their alignment (crew/traitor/neutral)
Crew Members: Unremarkable members of the crew... or are they?
Spoiler: TRAITORS
Show
Camouflage expert: During the night you can disguise yourself or another player as whatever role/alignment you choose. If a player is lynched with a disguise active that is the role that will be revealed on death. Also works on spy drones and other visual scanners. Does not work on psyonic abilities.
Hacker: You can hack into the ships security system to spy on the crew. Once per night you can choose a player to spy on.
Holographic technician: Once in the entire game, during the day phase, you can make a player look like another player to redirect the lynch on him.
Secret Agent: Due to his disciplined mind he is immune to the Psykers ability. He is scryed as crew by the Psyker. This ability has no effect on espionage drones.
There will be neutral roles but they will not be revealed... They're a surprise! Depending on the number of players there may or may not be other secret roles.

I would recommend reading the rules as there are small variations from the generic stuff. I also want to make a small note about role playing. It's not mandatory but if you RP a character I will use that when the time comes for you to be featured in a narration. If you don't role play or offer any kind of background I reserve the right to turn your character into whatever my sick mind comes up with.

If the Holographic Technician and the Vigilante go off on the same day, what happens?
-
Re: The Wolf Game - Stranded in space - Recruitment!
-
Re: The Wolf Game - Stranded in space - Recruitment!
The Vigilante's kill is not a lynch but does replace the lynch so as far as the Technicians ability goes no lynch occurs and his power doesn't go off. He can obviously try another day. As far as timing goes, although the technician can pm his ability use at any time during the day it only goes off at the end of the day, if the day ends abruptly for whatever reason his ability isn't expended.
Wohoo half-way through the minimum requirements already!

5 more to go to reach the absolute minimum required!
Assuming enough people sign up by then the game will start on Friday. If not the start will probably be delayed until Sunday.

I would prefer Sunday personally, otherwise I'll probably miss the first day as I have a wedding to attend to Saturday.

The 20 player mark was for the absolute minimum required. So you can join and if you have any more people that want to join as well, call them without a worry.

Re: The Wolf Game - Stranded in space - Day One
The Battleship Invincible hadn't really lived up to it's name. On the contrary it seemed anything but. All it took to disable the mammoth ship was a mutiny on board. The sailors were a superstitious bunch and they knew that giving a ship such a proud name was a bad idea. It seemed like that they were right. The mighty Invincible was on the verge of destruction and it hadn't even reached it's first mission yet. If someone were to stumble upon the ship there and then they would think it had gone through a terrible battle. Only upon close inspection would they realize that all the damage was done from the inside out.
For many hours the crew struggled to take back their ship but it seemed they were fighting a losing battle. The captain and his small team were frantically trying to restore as many ship systems as possible while contacting what few survivors they could find. However it was too late, the traitors still had control of the power core and from there they could threaten to blow up the entire ship. With a heavy heart the captain knew he only had one option left.
"Vent the ships atmosphere. Try to warn off what survivors we know are loyal to suit up if they want to survive. That's the only way we can stop the traitors."
"Sir, some traitors could survive."
"I know, we have no other option. Hopefully too few of them will survive to threaten us."
In a few minutes the sound of all the ships compartments depressurizing aside for the bridge could be heard. The few survivors stood in solemn silence knowing that it meant they had killed as many of their own as they did enemies. After about half an hour the atmosphere would be restored and they would find out who survived.
The Captain called for all survivors to meet up in the ships conference room to discuss their options. He knew very well that some of them might be traitors...
Day One begins now and ends in 48 hours.

Re: The Wolf Game - Stranded in space - Day One!
Weston Easton solemnly looked around the room, back straight, gaze firm. So few people had made it, and Weston knew what they were thinking. But at the end of the day, he couldn't say it hadn't been expected.
It was Spaghetti Day. Spaghetti Day had never once gone peacefully.
Of course, this was a lot worse than usual. Normally all you had to worry about were stabbed hands and broken noses, not venting the majority of the crew into space. More importantly, normally, when all the dust had settled, there was still spaghetti to get back to. But not this time. Not now.
Every face in the room told the same story: "could really use some spaghetti right now."
Weston felt tears coming to his eyes.

Re: The Wolf Game - Stranded in space - Day One!
Derek 'Mrs' McGinty is safely ensconced in the Conference Room's toilet cubicle, relaxing in the manner common to working men across the cosmos: sitting on the khazi, with a can of beer in one hand, and in the other a dog-eared magazine featuring pictures of scantily-clad women. A man of simple tastes and little insight, McGinty is dimly aware that he ought to be getting on with something more important. But, having little idea of what that something is, and being inclined anyway to avoid all effort and responsibility, he has made an executive decision to spend as much of the morning as possible on the john.

Re: The Wolf Game - Stranded in space - Day One!
Kevin was sitting in a corner with his hands covering his face. He was remembering all the men and woman that he knew who didn't make it to the storage compartments. While he was suiting up, Kevin still heard some fighting in the hallways. Sounded like the traitors were trying to get as may of their own to the suits, but marines were sacrificing themselves to keep them from as may of the storage rooms as possible. As he thought, he lay his head down to rest.

Re: The Wolf Game - Stranded in space - Day One!
AsteronIronhoof for not updating the signature. You should add in mason claim survived the night.
Engineer Dawn got up groggily. She had managed to override the communications systems and patch herself in to the bridge. That's how she knew what was going to happen next. Knowing that time was precious, she took an oxygen tank and a few spare parts. It wasn't the best fit or seal, but it was enough to survive.
Now that the immediate problem was out of the way, it was time to report in to the Captain. She continued messing around with the holographic com-link. It was after a good 10 minutes that she finally had success. Though not perfect. The small holographic projector started playing some stupid in-flight movie that they had. What was it? Diligent? Dilusioned? No. None of that was right. Ah! Divergent! she thought. She spent the next half hour trying to fix the holographic projector before she finally got it working. Why couldn't this be like Independence day where she could hit things with wrenches to make them work?
Captain? Can you hear me? A mini-figure of her floated in the center of the table Engineer Dawn reporting for duty captain. I've managed to partially fix the com-link. Some places may or may not be accessible by now. Unfortunately I cannot make it back up for another 12 hours. I activated the emergency lock down in Engineering to keep out the traitors, but I can't get out till its lifted. I did it so they couldn't cause any physical damage to the systems and cause even more trouble.
She looks down at the body next to her. She wasn't sure if they survived or not, but she had made a mask for them anyway. Should she report it? she wondered.

Re: The Wolf Game - Stranded in space - Day One!
((Deathslayer, is that a role claim?:smalltongue:))
Immer looked down at his feet. All this to take out mutiny? And we took out so many of our own too... This isn't why we are here. What to do? We need to figure out who is mutinous, but how? Maybe set something up to trap them.
-
Re: The Wolf Game - Stranded in space - Day One!
It would be a terrible one if it was.

Re: The Wolf Game - Stranded in space - Day One!
Sounds like a yes to me.
@v: I was joking. :smallsmile:

Re: The Wolf Game - Stranded in space - Day One!
I will be blunt then. In no way is it a claim. If people want to take it as a claim then that's their choice. It's just fluff for me.

Re: The Wolf Game - Stranded in space - Day One!
"Dinner?" A man jolts up, apparently from some dream of food. Unbeknownst to him, rations were now limited; the station was on lockdown, and people were threatening to kill them all to root out the traitors among them. Nevertheless, he had a mission, a mission for food. There had to be some way he could find something, anything to eat. Leaving his room, he headed toward the dining hall. Entering, he started talking to anyone in the room. "So, what's for dinner? Someone, please tell me I'm not late!"

Re: The Wolf Game - Stranded in space - Day One!
"Private Tabitha Samuelson reporting in, Captain." Comes a small, feminine voice.
Tabby is not a large woman. Barely five feet tall and scrawny, she is, in fact, easily the smallest crew member on the Invincible. However, that's not commonly the first thing people notice about her. Much more often, they notice her third eye, in the center of her forehead, opened vertically. It's as human and hazel as her other two eyes, but it can be disconcerting to see. Superstition, many times, said that mutants were a bad omen on a starship, but Tabby's father is admiral Samuelson, and despite his daughters size, he couldn't say no when she'd asked to be part of the military. It had bred no small amount of resentment with her and a few other crewmembers, no matter how capable she was.
She stands off to the side, not wanting to get in anybody's way. The bags under all three of her eyes show she hasn't been sleeping properly since this whole mess with the traitors started. She'd thought to maybe bring a pistol with her wherever she went, but realized that'd just cause more panic than it'd solve, especially from a mutant like her. She'll look over everybody present quietly, trying to get a sense of them all. Dammit all, why did this have to happen on her first trip out into the void?
-
Re: The Wolf Game - Stranded in space - Day One!
Adele Grant glares at Tabitha. She'd been on the bridge since the incident began. A tall woman, considerably taller than the mutant with black hair and striking violet eyes, she says to Tabby, "Nice of you to join us, Private Samuelson. I don't suppose you have any thoughts as to whether or not any traitors survived the vent?" seemingly implying that she would be in contact with the traitors.
((Note that this doesn't belie OOC suspicions. All IC RP.))
-
Re: The Wolf Game - Stranded in space - Day One!
((I figured that was the case. I just like RPing a little inherent strife :3 ))
Tabitha's own eyes narrow towards the other woman, "I don't appreciate what you're trying to say, Grant. I do my job like any good member of this crew, regardless of external differences," The little woman's posture shows she's willing to turn this physical, regardless of how large Adele is comparatively. She knows people talk behind her back, but Tabby won't stand for insults straight to her face.
-
Re: The Wolf Game - Stranded in space - Day One!
Adele steps forwards, getting in Tabitha's face as she says in a dangerously calm and even tone, "That's Navigator Grant to you. I know it's easy to forget, Private Samuelson, but you'd do well to remember that I am both your superior and the one in charge of getting us out of this mess, second to the captain and his first mate."
-
Re: The Wolf Game - Stranded in space - Day One!
Tabby steps close, looking the Navigator dead in the eye, "You may be my superior, but I will not tolerate unfounded accusations against me. I know you have no evidence that I'm a traitor because there is none, as I would never betray this crew, and you'd do best to remember that, before people start assuming you're pointing fingers to take the heat off yourself."
((for the record, the mutation is not a role claim. Tabby's mutation, and the fact that she's a paranoid insomniac was decided on well in advance of us all getting our roles handed out.))
-
Re: The Wolf Game - Stranded in space - Day One!
Special Agent Cobalt woke with a groan, his neck, shoulders, and arms sore and stiff from yesterday's activities of such fun things as pulling himself through the ship by whatever he could grab when the gravity had briefly been ratcheted up to five times normal or not getting sucked out into space. Before he was even up out of his pod, he checked to see that the door was still locked. Well, intentionally-jammed-in-a-specific-manner would be more technically correct. To his relief, it was. And oh look, his secondary combat suit was still where he had left it too. That was a relief. He'd probably have gone on a rampage if he'd lost it too, on top of his weapons. As he put it on, he thought about how much he already missed his particle rifle. And how much he was going to miss his multi-config-pistol. And what a shame it was about what had happened to prototype X7-MAV951 edged all purpose tool. At least, he thought, the tri-phase matter/energy converter cannon had a fitting last hurrah.
Finally donning his helmet, the suit powered up. To his annoyance a couple more of the systems had shut down, leaving him with less than half now. On the plus side at least he still wasn't walking about unarmored, if still unarmed, with madmen and mutants and who knew what else on the loose. All in all.... probably still going to seem like a vacation compared with the mission he had been scheduled for after this ship's planned arrival.
With a grunt he unjammed the door with his boot (by which I mean he kicked the sliding door open outwards) and went out in search of something to eat.
((Voting for Count Dingdong for voting for the first person to vote while so many other people are not voting.))

Re: The Wolf Game - Stranded in space - Day One!
Ren Browder slowly made his way back to the bridge through the seemingly endless corridors. It weren't the empty sections near the airlocks that got to him. Those were clean and void of life, as everything and everyone had been sucked into the cold void of space when the airlocks had opened. It were the corners and bends where some of the crew had been able to hold on to wall panels or strap themselves in that got to him. The corners where there weren't any suits. Where the bloated, swollen corpses of his crewmates stared at him from cold, lifeless eyes, friend and foe alike. Some of them probably would have tried to kill him just an hour before, but it hardly seemed to matter now - at least to them. It was ironic really, how much they resembled drowned sailors from shipwrecks in ages past, who often didn't even know how to swim. Except that one could learn how to swim, of course. Learning to breathe vacuum was more difficult.
He'd lost his rifle when he put on the suit but it didn't matter, he'd run out of ammo for it anyway. It was probably floating away from the ship right now, along with everything else that had been in the airlock with him. When he finally reached the bridge to report in, Ren felt exhausted as if he'd run the entire length of the ship ten times over. Still in his EVA suit, the helmet tucked under his arm, he looked around for the captain or his commanding officer. When he saw neither, he simply slumped into a corner and stared silently at the floor.

Her father's an admiral but she's not even an ensign or cadet? Now that's tough love! With such a father, Tabitha surely has authority issues, right Halae? :smallwink:
