Order of the Stick: The Manga
NOTE: Due to bandwith issues, I'd highly appreciate that those of you using my avatars and banners use your own image-hosting sites for them. It's great to see that you like my art enough to support it, but this thread is going to get nuked again. Thanks, and I hope you continue to enjoy!

Heya, guys. First post.
This is something I did when bored. Just for fun. Surprisingly enough, the OOTS characters are kind of hard to translate into manga format, especially their expressions. The fight scene was changed around slightly, to add a bit more oomph.

...
THAT IS SO AWESOME!
-
Re: Manga Reimagining
Oh GODS.
This is SO AWESOME! :D I always thought the OotS characters would look awesome in an anime style, unfortunately I have absolutely no skills in drawing in that style.... And when I saw the title I thought of this, but didn't dare hope. Thank you so much for drawing and posting this, it's completely brilliant! :D
Of course, you realise that you can't simply leave it like this. I'm not quite asking for a reimagining of all 693 comics, but a shot at some of the more dramatic ones is simply a must-have. Please! I'm begging you here! :D What do you require, deity? Gold? Slaves? Fanservice? State your wishes!
-
Re: Manga Reimagining
Woah! Very, VERY good! I can has more mange, plz? Elan looks so much cooler in his manga form, by the way.

Re: Manga Reimagining
Amazing. Simply amazing. Very well done.

Re: Manga Reimagining
You, sir, are alarming, astonishing, awe-inspiring, awful, beautiful, breathtaking, daunting, dreadful, exalted, fearsome, formidable, frantic, frightening, imposing, impressive, intimidating, magnificent, majestic, mean, mind-blowing, moving, nervous, overwhelming, real gone, shocking, something else, striking, stunning, stupefying, terrible, terrifying, wonderful and/or wondrous.
Now I feel totally fail for only being able to draw in manga-style, but not actual manga. Sigh.

I'm assuming he does. :D
*googlestalk*
Voila!
It will be embarrassing if I'm somehow completely off the mark about this one.
-
Re: Manga Reimagining
Whoa. Found out already.
And yeah, I'm gonna be doing a couple more, especially the scenes that I like. I'm not adverse to taking requests, though. Holler if there's a page that you enjoy specifically, I'll see what I can do.
-
Re: Manga Reimagining
When I see a piece of black-and-white art that I like, I sometimes get the urge to colour it. This is one of those times.
-
Re: Manga Reimagining
Shouldn't they have the same eyecolour?
-
Re: Manga Reimagining
No. Besides keeping with red vs. blue, they need an obvious minute difference which you can use to tell them apart but no one in the comic world can.

Yeah, but it should be something like hairstyle, since eye colour is really obvious.

Which in this comic Elan and Nale's hair running down the middle of their faces are flipped. Elan to the right and Nale to the right.

...Isn't that why the goatee is there? :D
Besides, as mentioned, eye colour is really obvious.
If one were to draw a scene from Nale's imposter scheme, one could use the same trick as the actual comic did - a few stray hairs to indicate the missing goatee.
And I'm SO happy Elagune will be doing more of these. :D
-
Re: Manga Reimagining
I'm going to quote coffee included here.
THIS IS AWESOME!

Normally they do, but Nale is angry and evil.

Twins: color-coded for YOUR convenience! :smallwink:
Very skillful.

Re: Manga Reimagining
HOLY SHIZMAFLAN ON A TOWEL
That is amazing! Good work!
You must make more OotS scenes this way!
-
Re: Manga Reimagining
If you are taking requests, could we have a scene with Xykon in it? I'd like to see him in this style (could be complicated, though)
-

Yes. My logic was that this would work better in Elagune's style than chin-stubble while Nale is impersonating Elan. Also, the "Nale is angry and evil" thing.
-
Re: Manga Reimagining
It are moments like these when I'm actually envious of other people's abilities. This is 100% pure and natural awesomeness incarnate.
-
Re: Manga Reimagining
Elagune, you need to put a section of that strip as your avatar so people don't mistake you for some random Pixie. :smalltongue:
And can I request the scene with Miko and Belkar smashing through a window?
-
Re: Manga Reimagining
Could you tell us something about how you did it? What steps you take, tools you use, what time it took you?
-
Re: Manga Reimagining
Ghost-Martyrs of the Sapphire Guard and O-Chul in the Acid Shark tank please?
Oh, and when the Ancient Black Dragon says that she'll kill V's family, and then flies off, and V tries to stop her but can't, and then collapses to the ground in despair?
And the soul splice!
Please?
-
Re: Manga Reimagining
This is amazing work.
I hope you do a few more OotS strips. In particular, I wouldn't mind seeing something from Strip #200 or #400 done. Or perhaps Miko's striking down of Lord Shojo. (In particular, I think Miko would lend herself well to a manga style.)
-
Re: Manga Reimagining
This comic where the ancient black dragon appears, chases after V and smashes him into the cliff would be my request. :D
200, Miko's first fight with the Order, would do nicely as well. :)
I'd just as rather see what scenes you would choose by yourself as your favourites, though. :)
-
Re: Manga Reimagining
Personally, the strips I'd like to see redone are: this one (for comedy*), this (or part of) one (for action*) or This one (for ninjas*).
*And ninjas.
-
Re: Manga Reimagining
Here's the second one:
On a related note, Daigo and Kasumi are awesome.
The reason for the difference in eyes is because in manga, the eyes represent more than eye colour, they also represent emotional states. White eyes indicate unconsciousness (except for the Byakugan), white pupils with black irises indicate shock, anger, or other extreme emotions, and eyes with no pupils at all and are gradiented generally indicate mind control. In this case, it's 'cause Nale's a psychopath.
Too many suggestions here. Maybe I should get a poll going.

Re: Manga Reimagining
Very cool stuff. Love the facial expressions.
-
Re: Manga Reimagining
Heheh, grope is a sound effect.
-
Re: Manga Reimagining
I love the expressions in the last panal (Elan's in the first is also good, very subtle but still makes you go "awwww").
-
Re: Manga Reimagining
I NEED to suscribe to this thread, this is AWESOME
OH and I second the resquest for the Soul-splice
-
Re: Manga Reimagining
I'm hoping that Rich reconises your talent and asks you to do the whole lot
Chances are he wont.. but it WOULD be epic!
-
Re: Manga Reimagining
:3 That second one was just cute.
I can't help but think that something from #200 would be epic.
-
Re: Manga Reimagining
Oh that was amazing! Love Daigo and Kazumi, and Elan in the first panel!
And okay, now you've got to do the "Pregnant Kazumi vs Ninja Assassins" one!
-
Re: Manga Reimagining
Oh dear God in heaven! I love this! Love!
Gods, I want to see so many strips in this style... but I'll hold off on requests for now. Looks like you've already gotten overloaded. :smallwink:
-
Re: Manga Reimagining
This thread has already recieved enourmous support! You should get a banner in you signature, pronto!
-
Re: Manga Reimagining
Wow, that was just terrific. I'm giggling like a schoolgirl.
Your Elan was great, but your Haley=tres cute. And Daigo and Kasumi was awesome; I especially like Daigo's expression in that last panel.
-
Re: Manga Reimagining
Your manga is great
The finest fanart I've seen
Continue drawing
...I would love to be Daigo there, cuz your depiction of Kasumi was beautiful. The only real criticism I can make so far was that Elan's lute wasn't drawn as well as your other work; it seems to shift on his back and change size between the three panels it's in.
-
Re: Manga Reimagining
Wow, hate to be that annoying echo guy, but those are really good. Can't wait for more.
-
Re: Manga Reimagining
I could just echo everybody else and say how good it is, but since that's quite redundant so instead I'm going to say that, after seeing your depiction of Haley, you could be quite helpful over at the OOTS fanserive thread and make similar but, erhm, slighly different depictions of Haley.
-
Re: Manga Reimagining
First of a three, maybe four, parter.
And yeah, I have no idea how to draw lutes, and so my sense of scale is all messed up when it comes to them. Also the lute came after everything else was finished, when I realized I completely forgot about it.
And yeah, colouring my pages is a-okay with me. They're meant to be coloured anyway, with the lack of black. If you feel up to it, feel free.
A banner sounds great, though I have no idea how to make one. :smallconfused:
-
Re: Manga Reimagining
Yes, yes, YES!!!!!
This is awesome! Beyond awesome!
*Fangirl squee*

Re: Manga Reimagining
Mangaized Xykon is great.

I think if you just crop out a panel, then throw it into your sig with a link to this topic it should be fine. If I may give it a shot:
Maybe above it add "Check out my manga reinterpretations of OotS".
-
Re: Manga Reimagining
Manga Hinjo and Manga Durkon are pretty great too. Colour me impressed.
I look forward to the next installment. Perhaps you should, like, create an archive in the first post.
-
Re: Manga Reimagining
I can't wait for the Ghost Martyrs of the Saphire Guard to Attack!!!
-
Re: Manga Reimagining
Nice use of the edge of the panel to cover O-Chul's face. :smalltongue:
-
Re: Manga Reimagining
Second part. Looks like it's going to consist of three.
Hmm... Yeah, I'll probably draw an image for the banner itself rather than use a panel. That'll probably work better.
-
Re: Manga Reimagining
Uah! The way you draw Xykon's head looks creepy! and that's good, I mean:smallwink: Ghost manga samurai paladins get him! You, Sir, are a drawing god!
-
Re: Manga Reimagining
You have a very beautiful and clean style! I really like your depictions of the characters
-
Re: Manga Reimagining
Yes, you must finish that part! I can't wait to see Xykon's ':smalleek:' expression.
Speaking of which, I love Hinjo and Durkon, but Xykon is simply PERFECT. He's a skeleton, an obviously evil Lich, and he's simply radiating high Charisma. You've captured that effect better than anyone I've ever seen. :)
-

Re: Manga Reimagining
Xykon's face... *shudders*

Re: Manga Reimagining

Re: Manga Reimagining
Xykon's well-drawn, but Hinjo is fantastic.
'Mostly, I like the image of the spirit-energy forming Soon's sword. (Or at least I assume it's Soon.)
Hmmm, I wonder why the Azure City characters lend themselves so well to being drawn in a manga style. :smalltongue:
(Actually, my favourite strip so far is the first one. Nale just looks so ... unhinged.)
