My Little Pony XI: "Mmph!"
Brief Introduction
Spoiler
Show
My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic is a reboot of the MLP franchise by Powerpuff Girls artist Lauren Faust, currently viewed by (almost) the entire Internet, not only the intended audience. Here is a place where we discuss the joy of friendship.
> My Little Pony? Seriously?
It's a clever show. It has excellent writing, character dynamics, humor, animation, and generally treats kids seriously rather than condescending to them. It has every right to be a 20 minute corporate committee designed infomercial, but it's not.
> Isn't this a show for little girls?
Pixar technically makes shows for little boys, and produce some of the best animation in the world.
> Okay, fine. I'll give it a try. Where do I start?
No Brony could ask for more. I recommend watching the episodes in order. They're all up on Youtube. Unusually, Hasbro seems fine with having the entire series up in public because they've made no move to bring down any of the episodes. Search for "Friendship is Magic Episode 1" and you should find the series pretty easily... Or search for "Sharing is Magic" Google Doc. That is all.
> Okay, I'm going to watch it but this had better live up to the hype!
Whoa, calm down there. The show is light hearted, optimistic fun but it's not for everyone. It's good fun, the community is good fun, and everyone can do with a reminder that friendship is magic but if it doesn't gel for you we'll love and tolerate you anyway. Plus, you might hit the wrong episode. Ask first?
> Iron Hoof/Fan Theories/Shipping/Binding
All in good fun! If it's not your cup of tea, skim it, but this show has triggered a great creative outpouring from the Internet. Pony themed fan-art is abundant and often excellent. See below for some examples.
> Derpy Hooves/Doctor Whoof
Two minor background characters who were adopted as emblems of 4chan. Derpy Hooves is so named due to an animation error in the first episode that had her eyes facing in different directions; 4chan has assigned her the role of Ponyville's mailpony, and her only line so far has been "Muffins". The show's animators are aware of Derpy's popularity and she's shown up a few times recently with her eyes obviously derped. Currently made canon in Feeling Pinkie Keen and in Faust's picture showcased below, Derpy was deemed important enough to appear in storyboards for Season II.
Dr. Whoof is a pony with an hourglass cutie mark; he and his kin save time and space very quietly off camera.

ATTENTION EVERYPONY!!!
Great & Powerful Trixie made a bet. A bet I'll procure 12 pictures of Trixie - like the one in my sig, of similar quality - before next weekend. Trixie cosplaying, doing weird stuff, finding herself in unusual situations. So! I need ideas! Sketches of Unicorn ponies (I'm willing to vectorize them for free if they're good enough)! Moments from the show showing ponies with unusual poses and/or designs I could use to inspire myself!
Finally, if someone would also like to draw something, I'd be glad to repay in some manner :P
Any takers? :smalltongue:

Okay, so I've only got Episodes 23/24 left to watch, and I love the series so far.
But Philomena is master class troll. Just like Celestia.
Also, I want to see some sort of MLP/Power Rangers Crossover where Zordon is Celestia and Rita Repulsa is Nightmare Moon.

I'll read the Lyrafic, but I know I won't get it done in time for the site rebuild.

The fic looks pretty good, aside from lots of past/present tense shifts.

Consider leaving in the poor tense shifting - only during the psychotic episode. Yes, I know it's not proper, but really, where would we be if we were Proper all the time.
We'd have a happier DBC, and still be on thread 7.

That's why my theory is that if Twilight ever falls in love, she falls in love hard. I always had the idea of an story where Twilight falls in love and goes to the extreme by abandoning her academical career.

My thoughts are dropped into the google docs window, I think there's a lot you can do with this fic :)
SECONDARILY,
At work, a Chinese co-worker with very poor English whom I know only tangentally started talking to me,
"Hey, you ever seen that movie...?"
"What movie?"
"The one where that guy gets a thing and puts it on his face and goes crazy?"
"The Mask by Jim Carrey?"
"Yeah! Exactly! You remind me of that guy!"
"... Er. Thanks" :smalleek:

that is hilarious for reasons that are ironic but probably not in the way you expect.
Since the Mask was an uninhibiter, he was even MORE himself while wearing it, as it allow him to remove the masks placed on him by society.
Yor coworker complimented you on being utterly yourself... In the most backwards way possible. Creepy, I know, but take a look from a fresh perspective, mate. You may find it as heartwarming as I do.

Psh. As if Derpy would ever steal from the royal bakery. That's what's wrong with it; it's a frame-job! there is also a noticeable dearth of ropes but I can overlook that.

- I think I will at least add one more scene for the build-up. That bit about her doing something which is normal for her, but crazy when looked at from the outside was genius.
- Making them doubt their own reality eh? The very idea is a good one, but I am not sure I can do it justice. Let me do a test scene later.

She got the motive, and as federal executive in charge of transportation she got the opportunity. Derpy is the criminal mastermind of Equestria. Only "8 hours bubble bath" Spike comes close.
And for lack of rope:
And image dump. The final of the Cutie Mark Crusaders series, the Sweetie Bell edition.

There's several actually (as you will see from the sidebars in the link kpenguin provided). I thought I'd found a really good about a month ago, but damned if I can find it again.
Incidently, on a totally unrelated, I love that most of the fanfics I've read recently that involve Ditzy Doo now use "Derpy Hooves" as a largely derogative nickname she gets called by other mean ponies. Granted, Ditzy Doo is a much better name than Derpy Hooves any day of the week, but it's hilarious to see the fandom not simply dropping the old moniker for the new one, but actually taking itself to task over a name it created and propagated. I love this fandom!

You did it. You actually did it. I can't believe you actually did it. Now I'm going to have to get to chapter 5 of Heroics in ten days, just for the bondageriffic parts! Aaaargh, I can't write at that kind of speed! But I must. I must! I muuuuust![/rarity]

Re: My Little Pony XI: "Mmph!"
So, i've been utterly bewildered what makes this show so popular here. So, having a 6 year old daughter, I decided, "What the hell?" and downloaded the first 24 episodes.
Well, 10 episodes later, I can safely say I'm still utterly bewildered by the fan following among adults. I could have understood if it were, say, Backyardigans (which is a truly brilliant show for young kids, though I wouldn't create a fan club for it), but...I don't get this.
However, my daughter loves it, which makes the bandwidth usage entirely worthwhile. Thank you for giving me something with which to entertain her.

You're welcome! And it's alright if you don't get it, the show isn't for everypony. Though, I'll be interested to see if your opinion changes after the rest of the series. I personally didn't "get it" until after I saw all the episodes, and then it took me another while to really get into it. The ponies are addicting like that.

Personally I love the fandom (and fanfics/pics ect) that's sprung up around the show and the feedback loop between the fandom and the show seems to make both better then they would be alone.
I didn't really get into the show untill I'd read a 100+ page forum topic about it, and as corny as it sounds, you could almost taste the friendship and enthusiasm in that thread. That's what prompted me to go and give the show another look (even if the opening title still makes me cringe a little...)
This is the best fandom

The animation itself is pretty nice, maybe some of the best of the Flash era of cartoons.
Old school slapstick. At one point it goes full anvil.
The characters as written have more depth in them than many movie characters, and they aren't always GRIMDARK. It goes so far as to have the main characters not 100% likable.
Full license to take things out of context.
You're going to get a lot of subjective stuff, but mostly I like it because the show is trying to climb out of the pit Hanna-Barbara dug for cartoons.

That made me think (always a bad sign). Pony DickDastardly1 would make a hilarious cameo villain for MLP:FiM. I can totally see a Stop-the-Pidgeon scenario - with Ditzy taking the pidgeon's role, naturally... Why has this not been thought of before!?
(In fact, somebody with some art skills should totally draw Dastardly as a pony (unicorn?) and Muttley as his dragon sidekick right now!)
Or griffons. Maybe Vulture squadron should be griffons.
Eeeeh, ponies are just cooler, though. (By about...20%!2)
Yeah, Dock3 Dastardly and Sootley. Yeah. I can see it now. Muhahahaha!
1As one word his name doesn't actually get filtered...
2Do you see what I did there?
3See pony body part no.8 Damn, that is almost too easy to spoof!

"... Er. Thanks" :smalleek:
Wow that's awesome. And kinda creepy. Mostly awesome.

totally see a Stop-the-Pidgeon scenario - with Ditzy taking the pidgeon's role, naturally... Why has this not been thought of before!?
(In fact, somebody with some art skills should totally draw Dastardly as a pony (unicorn?) and Muttley as his dragon sidekick
right now!)
Or griffons. Maybe Vulture squadron should be griffons.
Eeeeh, ponies are just cooler, though. (By about...20%!
2)
Yeah, Dock
3 Dastardly and Sootley. Yeah. I can see it now. Muhahahaha!
1As one word his name doesn't actually get filtered...
2Do you see what I did there?
3See pony body part no.8 Damn, that is almost too easy to spoof!
*Sigh*

You're only as old as you feel. This is why Pinkie looks so young despite being an eternal eldritch abomination.

I overstated it.
Still slightly annoyed.

Re: My Little Pony XI: "Mmph!"
by the way, I found Trixie hidden in another episode, Bridlle Gossip. around minute 20:00.
The prove: the reflections in her eyes. Normal ponies and the mane six have two reflections; Trixie only has one. Thus the normal pony above seems to have an oval reflection since they are actually two, and Trixie has a round reflection.

Re: My Little Pony XI: "Mmph!"
No bondage has actually been posted yet, DBC. :smallconfused: Get on it everypony, or the Mmph! Edition will have less bondage than the other threads!

That and, y'know, that's pretty clearly Trixie's hairstyle and colour scheme. :smalltongue:
Awesome find though. I wonder if she's lurking anywhere else...

Re: My Little Pony XI: "Mmph!"
So, I was playing Transformice today and I found out that, of the many hats you can buy, included amongst them were the haircuts of each and every of the six mane ponies.
