Go Tool! Go Tool!
I hope Sizemore comes out ok, but Parson is sending him the Spidewry.
Nice touch with the Archons peeking in on Parson's Thinkagrams though

Anybody else noticed the vampire Super Mario?
I missed that the first time through, even though I was looking for that sort of thing <.<
Looks like we are gonna see a climax very soon....
That just looks like a stereotypical old fasioned dock worker to me. I somehow doubt that warlords design was *specifically* akin to Mario, but rather they both draw thier designs from the same source.
Wonder what songs they're both playing!?
Man, a West Side Story reference! That's one of my favorite movies!
I love you guys!
I like the West Side Story reference. Good stuff.
Let the Rock-off begin! :smallamused:
Oh man, fingersnapping bats!
Keeps getting better.
The Tool is a little annoying bastard, but I have to give him what he's due - when he gets to the frontline, he knows how to be awesome. After that, I have to root for him, at least for this battle.
Also, notice Sizemore's steely expression and how he's talking, without so much as an inflexion or a word too many. That's what a good man supressing all his morals and focusing on doing what needs to be done sounds like. It brings to memory the Pratchett stance that if you find yourself at the mercy of a man, pray he's an evil man, because the good one will simply kill you to end things quickly.
Webinar is So. Very. ****ed. :smalltongue:
More and more, I am looking forward to the end of this chapter, so that I can go back and reread everything all at one go. This is a great comic, but my brain suffers from being not quite big enough to keep up with all the "pieces" for the length of time required between updates. I just can't remember who everyone is.
You know what would be neat? A sidebar with the faces of the characters, their names, and which side they're (currently) on. Hm. I like that idea. I might do that with my own comic!
The Tool is cool!
I just love the "Knights In Stanley's Service". Spit some blood, Tool!
What is that song Transsylvito sings?
What reference? Not everybody lives in the US, you know. :smallannoyed:
Damn, I don't know who to root for? All involved are awesome...
And I love Mario.
Neither do I, really.
But everyone must watch West Side Story. It's an awesome musical and an awesome movie.
"Bats? Bats, we got".
You can say that again. Must be millions of the blighter's. :P
Either bats are worth bugger all in a fight, or they could just swarm the dwagons and win.
Oh, and don't forget the KISS reference.
These references:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kiss_(band)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I_Love_It_Loud
:smallwink:
Also, though not related to KISS (rather, to the other side of the battle):
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/West_Side_Story
Clearly, Bats = Jets
Oh dear, I think Webinar is going to die soon, Vinny and friends too. Well I was wrong about the fight already being finished between the dragons and vamps. Ah well... its a climax!
Just search YouTube for "Kiss - I Love It Loud", there are plenty of clips.
Search "West Side Story-Jet Song" for the other song.
this comics going to end up needing a surgeons generals warning for awesome.
is that a Lordi reference? all we need is lightning with power and might.
Boop, how can I keep hating on Stanley after a shout-out like that? I guess even he gets a crowning moment of awesome. Can't wait to see how this plays out.
Oh and so much for the Foolamancer tricking Stanley into fleeing the ambush; I think Jack pretty much wants to get the Tool croaked at this point.
Hey, what gives? I thought Stanley had the Arkenhammer, not the Arkenaxe. :smallamused:
Utterly fantastic page. And the tension builds.
Totally awesome how Stanley holds the Arkenhammer like a guitar and "plays it".
This just keeps getting better and better, **** meeeeeeeee...
No one ever explained the joke of Knights in Stanley's Service" Google just refers me back to threads where it wasn't explained way back when either. Over the months I've googled the term whenever the mood strikes me, but I never got an answer to the joke here.
Too bad this forced me to remember WSS. The one movie that God would be hard pressed to make another with less artistic merit......
---self deleted about 1000 words of ranting. I've got a lot to say about works assigned in school and little of it positive. Seeing people claim how great WSS was needed a counter to save people the agony of exposing themselves unprepared, but the rant was unnecessary.
The band KISS got a bad rep for 'outrageous' on-stage antics way back when. Some of those nay-sayers came up with the idea that they were called KISS because it stood for Knights In Satan's Service, so it's really self-explanatory when you know that much.
I see now why Saline IV loved Stanley enough to make him the Heir.
Stanley is a horrible king, but a preternaturally gifted warlord.
Actually, Mario was designed pretty much entirely from the limitation of computer graphics at the time he was designed. They couldn't make the hair correctly, so they gave him a cap. They couldn't define the face very clearly, so they gave him a big nose. They couldn't make a decent mouth, so they gave him a mustache to cover it. Nintendo didn't design him from stereotypical old fashioned dock workers.
Plus, I think Mario is much more famous than stereotypical old fashioned dock workers. I think it's much more likely that this character is based on Mario than anything else.
It was a very nice reference to West Side Story indeed.
Alas, I was not one to state that Sizemore would be the one to die of the major characters on Parson's side. I, unfortunately, don't know if I can keep saying that. He is overwhelmed and overrun. Reinforcements are on the way but will they get there in time?
I'm not sure what makes me happier, seeing a West Side Story reference in a gaming comic, or seeing others get the reference and appreciate it.
I have a feeling most of us who love it, love the stage show. I'll agree with you that the movie isn't to well done, but then movie musicals rarely are, and I have, unfortunately, seen much worse on film. Of course, even the stage show isn't without its flaws (my mother, who grew up just outside of New York in the fifties, can't get over how squeaky clean the language is for two gangs of toughs from the West Side).
Anyway, it was a cute reference, even if I can't quite square the da-doos with any part of the lyrics or instrumentation to... anything in that show, much less "Cool" and "When You're a Jet" specifically.
Neat comic though. And the parody lyrics to "When You're a Jet" are quite cute, actually.
Really like the side-by-side drama of the two battles, and finally seeing Stanley in his element.
Ohhhhhhh, baby.
This even further cements my opinion that Stanley is not somebody you want squaring off against you in the next hex.
And it further reinforces why I love this comic. Great, great page.
Well, that explains why the Tool he took 3 knights with him. Dragons probably can't sing very well.
Anyway, I've been waiting for this momemnt for a looonggg time. Stanley kicking some butt oh yeah:smallbiggrin:
Anyway, poor Sizemore. He's a pacifist, but he's ready to fight to the death for his warlord. I hope he gets out alive out of this one. Altough this kind of scene is precisely the one where the character in question doesn't come back alive.
One way or another, I preview great losses for Jetstone. They'll learn to fear the Hamster.
I think Sizemore is going to collapse the tunnel on the enemy commanders... and himself.
All Stanley needs is one Lightning Nova or similar AoE and suddenly the bats aren't a problem anymore.
Exactly what is a Foolamancer capable of in battle?
And that scene with Webinar squaring off against the Dirtamancer? Bad, bad move. A straight-up fight like that- with the enemy a comfortable thirty feet away- is begging for a tunnel collapse right there and then.
I don't see Sizemore dieing right now, help is on the way, and he can just collaspe the tunnel if need be, plus he has juice for the golems. I do on the other hand see a dead Webinar. And some dead vampires. I hope the hammer starts shooting lighting at the vamps.
The West Side Story reference was totally epic because
1. I watched part of it for the first time last night
2. Because I'm in my school's marching band at that's what we're playing this year.
Woot. Shock me by Kiss.
15 shmuckers says the Jetstone units are not ready to dance fight the knights.:smallamused:
O, I know the kss refs and makeup and gear and such, and now I know that there is a guy named Stanly (starchild) in KISS, but I don't get how Knights in Stanly's Service is a reference. I figured the joke was the total lack of creativity on the name.
And now it's time for the ultimate showdown, Broadway Showtunes vs 80s Hard Rock.
I must raise my hat. This is really awesome.
The west side story reference, the music duel, parson's command room, the communication, they all scream 'epic' to me.
Saline IV explained.
Erfworld the Musical
rock it!
I love how "bad" the spidew looks :smallamused:
And I hope that crap golem did not tap Sizemore's shoulder :smalltongue:
Glitch.... BFG.
Fine. I'll spell it out. "Knights in Stanleys Service" is a reference to KISS because of the "knights in satans service" thing that other people have already mentioned, and because the initials of "knights in stanleys service" spell "KISS". I trust that is FINALLY explicit enough for everyone?
I can. Unless I miss my guess, the da-doos are from just about the start of "cool", around measure 8. It goes like: (Bflat-E, F-Bflat, Bflat-E, FE-Bflat, HighAflat HIGHBEE, AFLAAAT!) Sort of like that. I only know this 'cause I'm in a marching band that's doing West Side Story this year.
And that makes this reference all the sweeter, 'cause I totally get it. For once, I fully understand an Efworld joke from my first glance at it.
And I didn't get Knights In Stanley's Service until today either. I never thought to abbreviate it.
Yeah that and the armor / clothes they are wearing, it's an obvious reference to KISS. Why do you think Stanley has that star on is face now?
The knights; and those metal Golems look just like KISS on one of their album covers when they stop their first marbits...
.....oh and it's the reason they are doing the dance fighting schtick in the first place, Vinnie calls them rockers.
Saline the fourth was Stanley's king in the past. Four is IV in roman numerals.
IV uses the keys I and V on the keyboards thus Saline Eye Vee (IV)
Most of this stuff has been gone over in the forums, so if your a late comer don't expect to get all the jokes.
Is it Dark Mario? I don't know, maybe, maybe not, could be, could be not.
Looks kind of like him.
Anyways awesome comic, I am so sick of Vinnie and Ansom and Jilian and their goodie goodie ways, I want to see them get roughed up good. Time for the underdogs to score a win.
A saline IV is this.
It's connected to your bloodstream. You might have seen one in a hospital.
Or, exactly what Zolem said (credit where it's due).
If Stanley´s forces don´t make a great amoutn of killing this turn, they are going to have a lot of problems... the survivors will heal at Transylvitto´s turn and the Stanley´s forces will be wounded...
Last panel is epic.
Good job guys, this comic just keeps getting better!
Hmmm... if he's that unhappy about what he has to do, he just might -- taking a batch of important enemy units with him might enable him to get around the fact that Duty would presumably compel him to avoid weakening his side by sacrificing himself.
I don't see it as particularly likely, but it's a possibility.
Yes I know I and V is four and stands for IntroVenius of which saline is a common choice. It's a joke on IV vs. I.V.
Eye Vee was just a phonetic spelling of I and V. IV can stand for 4 or it can be I.V. pronounced eye vee and refers to a saline IntroVenius
My keyboard certainly has an I and a V otherwise how would I be able to type I and V?
I don't think all the jokes are meant to be understood by everybody in this comic, it's almost like all the jokes are "in-jokes".
I also don't think it's a coincidence that the knights weapons are axes, an ax is slang for musicians referring to your musical instrument, more often than not a guitar, which is of course the main instrument in rock.
