Is their something special I need to post?
Well, it's good form to post a little about your character in the OoC thread for whichever freeform you've joined. Seeing as you've already got a char in the Nexus, might I point you here?
Regarding this proposed Code Geass thread (potentially now without Geass), I was considering whether to try and create a Gundam-based thread- but something else mech based would be fun too (so long as it doesn't run into the problem of oneupmanship with giant robots and their weapons)...
In case it appeals, I'll go into the basic premise I had for my Gundamesque FFRP, see whether anyone bites:
Basically, a scenario very similar to the start of the One year war and set primarily around the home planet (probably an earth clone) and its moon, with assorted space colonies arrayed at Lagrange points (which I've linked because that was easier than any explanation of them by me would be).
In this I've envisioned that though there would be a war ongoing, it would still be in its earliest days, with the alliances and balance of power not yet set in stone. Likewise, whilst I'm considering this from a mecha standpoint, they would not be the only machines on the battlefield, nor necessarily the most capable.
Any thoughts?
It's been tied, both Gundam and just plain Mech. It didn't go so well. Most of the Animeitp's seem to get very little traffic.
That might be because fans of each anime only make up a small percentage of the available players, and non-fans are often reluctant to join without knowing the source material. It might also be that a lot of the target audience simply don't visit this part of the forums. I for one am only here because the first AnimeiTP was moved here from Media Discussions; If it had started directly in the FFRP section, I doubt that it would have had anywhere near as many players.
And of course, there's also good old fashioned competition. Most of the people who do visit here are already part of at least one RP. While some players will have no problem with being in several games at once, plenty of others simply won't have the time to spare. So in practice, any new RP which gathers its playerbase solely from this section is going to be fighting an uphill struggle. Given all that, the current situation is hardly surprising.
Generally the most successful fandom based rp's tend to arrive from elsewhere, such as media or smbg, having already gathered together and then gotten moved when the mods noticed that roleplay was happening. Trying to recruit people here is not quite as successful, since the people here are already roleplaying somewhere.
Have you tried using the Finding Players subforum to recruit players? It's perfectly acceptable to recruit for freeform games there.
I had a weird sort of proto-idea of an RP that would sort of be like an inverted Little Fears, where the players are the kind of monsters who hide in the closet and the basement and stuff. I'm sort of working on it, so next week or so I might have an actual thing with lots of talkywords.
If anyone wants to help I'd love an extra brain on the job. That'd bring it up to a total of... one brain.
For example: the original BleachitP was started as a 'What is YOUR Zanpaktou?' thread, and we requested it be moved once we started RPing for fun.
...best results of starting a thread I've ever had. For bonus points, it was essentially a 'eh, let's try it for fun'.
To be very honest, that's pretty much how all the successful and large roleplays have started. At least, I can't name one that didn't start that way (I think the Naruto one may have been more organized, though I don't see it around anymore, and I know Railgun was organized, but it's pretty slow and small nowadays).
Town started with a silly roleplay during an arena fight exploding into something much larger.
The Acronyms started with AMEN, which was basically a glorified Kiss/Kill thread.
Nexus basically started when Town and the Acronyms kind of reached the same roleplaying style and merged.
Bleach started from horngeek's thread, as he said.
I think (but am not sure) the Ponyverse games got a lot of support from the relevant media thread too.
So. Superhero FFRPs. Why have none lasted more than a few weeks? I mean, everyone likes Superheros, right?
This message totally not sponsored by DOCTOR DECIBEL and my current addiction to City of Heroes Freedom
Not sure why. I'd certainly be fine with another one starting up. :smalltongue:
I'd totally try having a superhero team like the Fantastic Four (as in, as much a family as a team).
Im not sure how to join a game.
do i join in the middle?
there are so many threads for anything! how do i play like that?
You can either come to a tavern or inn, and introduce a charactor or try to join a group.
Nonono. You have to make a character and then roleplay them entering Trog's. If you wanna say you join, I'd suggest going to the Nexus OOC.
The organizations in the Nexus are fairly varied, some of them being based on alignment toward Good or Evil.
Quick rundown...
HALO: For Good or at least non-Evil peoples. Originally built on the premise of going out and kicking evil butts, this organization has become more laid-back overall, with a sort of homey, affectionate atmosphere (and an undersea base). Characters who are more active in their evil-fighting are very welcome, of course.
GLoG: An organization based around redemption. Its base is a bunch of cool cabins and lodges and stuff in an outdoorsy area, so it's sort of like cabin camping forever. There's a lake and water slide and cool stuff.
NO: The Neutralist Organization. They do contract work, but I'm pretty sure they don't accept contracts for assassinations any more. Also their base is... an ice base. I think.
WATCHTOWER: Good. More active in their stand against Evil than HALO is. Cool base. I honestly don't know too much about 'em.
AMEN: Evil! Whee! I don't know all that much about them either, other than that being too serious is not a common flaw there.
There are others but I'm lazy.
Basically, you make a character and have them interact with people.
So where i introduce my charecter? in tavern or in OOC?
WATCHTOWER, is, strictly, not actually Good ("Not that alignments actually matter anymore."), instead being a guard against world-destroying events.
Join Dragons, Dragons everywhere! Create your creature with a robust system, choose your lair, take others stuff, and kill things that annoy you!
Now in the planing phases.
I read that dragon thread, I would like to participate, but I'm afraid I would whip out my 10,000 year old overpowered inventor-wizard dragon, the temptation is too great.
but in general, I'll try to return to here….but unfortunately I can never keep up with everything going on here, even though I love freeform roleplaying.
