I disagree. When it comes to weapon dupes the best use of your time is to turn it into metal. Warehouse generally is overstocked on weapons and finding people willing to trade a weapon for a scrap (twice the price) can be difficult. Unless there is another common weapon you want but don't have, in which case a 1:1 trade makes sense.
However using metal in crafting for either hats or new weapons is a terrible waste and you are better off saving the metal and trading it for things you want. (Price to craft a hat: 3 refined and it's random. Price to buy the specific hat you want in 99% of cases 1-2 refined)
If you can't turn your duplicated weapons into scrap yourself because they are for different classes, you can use tf2scrap.com to do it for you.
But that's just one little bear's opinion.

Honestly I took it as a rather basic question and I responded how I thought was appropriate based on the question asked.
Having some scrap can be useful and what better way to do it with basic weapons found? I did not mean to imply crafting hats/new stuff was a great idea.

Re: [Steam]-y Thread XXX: Throwing titles out the window!
I have a vintage football helmet that's apparently worth 9090c on the Warehouse.
Should I trade it in for the credits, or is it sufficiently rare that I should hang on to it for the prestige?
-
Re: [Steam]-y Thread XXX: Throwing titles out the window!
Okay, TF2ers. I have: a Chieftain's Challenge, a Respectless Rubber Glove, a Crocodile Smile, an uncraftable Tyrant Helm (painted Zephaniah's Greed), a Black Rose (needs gift wrap), a Dangeresque, Too? (needs gift wrap), a Strange Shortstop, a RIFT hat code, a ton of crates (8x 39, 2x 41, 4x 42, 7x 43, 3x 44, 6x 45), and complete Medic and Engineer Halloween costumes (unhaunted).
I'm looking for a Virtual Reality Headset, a Googly Gazer, and a Pip-Boy (preferably non-Genuine as it'll be cheaper). Anyone want to help me out?
EDIT: updated.

Hold onto it until someone gives you an offer for something like a flaming Team Captain.
Also, I, too, have a Crocodile Smile, as well as a Your Worst Nightmare and a Stealth Steeler. I'm looking mostly for a Pip-Boy or a Tin-1000, though other $7.49 items for the Demoman or Engineer would be appreciated... or some kind of pet.

:smallconfused:
9,000 credits is not the same as 900,000 credits.
As for trading it into the warehouse, do you think it is worth 2 refined (also 9,000 credits)? Is there something in the warehouse that you want to get?

Re: [Steam]-y Thread XXX: Throwing titles out the window!
Looking at my Dad's account, my old one (back when I was a minor and lived there :p) I found a few decent things I won't mind having on my own account and a few crates:
7 series have: 4
8 series have: 3
9 series have: 2
27 series have: x1
If they are of any value, I am willing to get him to give them to me (he never touched TF2 so he won't care :P)

So... I have 2 crates and no keys. Yay.
And I keep getting Pretty Boys Pocket Pistol and Solemn Vow.

Re: [Steam]-y Thread XXX: Throwing titles out the window!
That pocket pistol is incredibly helpful. Not as effective as the Milkman, but then again, you're not restricted to one useful weapon that lacks ramp-up.

Anyone who has the time to make a game can scrounge together $100. Plus, it's for a good cause. Just find something you were going to buy, don't buy it, and instead put up your game.

While this a good point, I think it doesn't work for fan made 100% free mods. some of which actually look good.
Alternatively, I suppose you could turn to crowd funding for that hard to get $100, especially if you've made a great mod.

Think you are confusing Steam Workshop with Project Greenlight here.
Worshop is for mods. Project Greenlight is about adding indie games into Steamshop catalog.

As somebody who works on games in my free time, I can attest that $100 is quite a bit of money for a student production.

Yeah. In theory, I can't really disagree with it. "Only" 100$? It goes to charity, not Valve (who obviously have operating costs for this kind of thing)? It's hard to argue against it, but it doesn't sit right with me. 100$ _is_ a lot -and- hard to come by for some people. Students and lower-income folks might be able to produce something but still need to spend every free dollar on necessities.
-
Re: [Steam]-y Thread XXX: Throwing titles out the window!
I really don't think the money is a big deal. If you're actually going to sell your game, you can probably spare 100 bucks. Otherwise, just don't use Greenlight, it's not the end of the world.

:smallconfused:
Why is it then that several of the games I see on Greenlight are Source mods?

Because several people decided to use Greenlight to try and get their mod on steam as opposed to using steam workshop for some reason.

On this front, I've arranged to take over my school TF2 server, so I can swap it to any mode or rotation we want (except on Tuesday nights, since that's club night).
I'll have the IP and stuff for you guys sometime this week or next. Waiting on my friend for the information.

1.) It's an investment... if you make even $0.50 on each game sold, you need only 200 sales to break even. After that, it's all Valve-provided profit.
2.) Loans, jobs, dividing the cost among several contributors, reducing money spent on not-really-necessities... there's lots of ways to come up with $100.
3.) If you get Greenlighted, $100 is a paltry sum given that you just got hooked up with the largest digital distribution system on PC. Just try finding a company that will give you a position in a similarly large market space for less, much less giving that fee to charity rather than their own pockets.
