Re: Touhou II: Story of an Eastern Thread
Well, a while back I got THOROUGHLY DESTROYED by SA, so I've been a bit put off the Touhou series for a while. I should've stuck with an easier game to get back into the series instead of going all Utsuho fanboy mode. Can anyone point me to a good download for IN or (mabye) UFO?
On the topic of difficulty, interesting fact: while I still had it, I couldn't get past PCB's stage 4 on normal, even with continues. For the sheer lulz of it, I took a shot at Lunatic. I managed to get to some point in stage 3. Still wierds me out a little.

My god, I've become terrible. I barely remember how to projectile properly, and came near losing to AI several times. I kept whiffing with Komachi like there's no tomorrow. I used to know how to play this game, I swear.
Awesome. That puts you right at my level. :smalltongue:

Re: Touhou II: Story of an Eastern Thread
Oh hey. Since I have had nothing to do for the past few weeks, I've been trying to beat Mokou. Progress: Get up to Fujiyama Volcano, die horribly. On a good day, this becomes: Get to Possessed by Phoenix, die horribly on second stage since Fujiyama Volcano and the wave of purple preceding it ate all my resources.
As an alternative, I try and beat Ran. Progress: Charming Seige from all sides=die horribly. That or Tenko's Illusion.
Maybe I should try and 1CC Normal levels before trying to beat Extra? :smalltongue:

Well, we totally have to play then so we can fail together :smalltongue:. You'll have to tell me how this stuff works.

Oh, god. I HATE Fujiyama Volcano. I never beat Mokou because I'd reach Fujiyama with five lives and get through with zero, or maybe one.

Charming Siege, on the other hand, is one of my favorite cards in the whole of Touhou. I don't know, I just "feel" the card. Never kills me, and it's almost a relaxation moment in preparation for what comes later.

I'm sure you're still far better than my anti-talent for fighting games allows me to be.

You two. Internet punchtimes this instant.
Also, "anti-talent for fighting games" might not apply much. Soku is weird enough that typical fighting game knowledge doesn't help you much to begin with :smalltongue:

Give that I'm sitting in Narita Airport currently, that might be tricky. Also my anti-talent is more of the kind where I can't grasp the concepts of timing or how to chain button presses that fighting games require. I just immediately start flailing and pressing random buttons, even when I know what I should do. It's like I lose all presence of mind the second I'm put in front of a fighting game.

Nonsense, this is what witchcraft was invented for.

Oh. Panic. Yes, I know how that is. Not... not entirely sure how I got over it myself, actually.

Re: Touhou II: Story of an Eastern Thread
On the topic of Hisoutensoku, I've been playing that quite a bit with a Steam friend of mine. Guy mains Meiling, has a far better grasp of combos than I do and is able to pull off more inputs than I can, so he generally beats me into a pulp with her or Komachi. However, I seem to be able to outmatch him in the bullet department, so we pretty much even out. Just a little bit ago, though? Played Sakuya. Actually did pretty well. In fact, I ended up beating him. With Perfect Maid. Pretty proud of that.
Of course, the only problem was that I didn't drop a steamroller on him afterwards, but we can't have everything.

As I recall, witchcraft was invented in order to attain mystic power, manipulate love and get rid of that damn wart they just couldn't seem to shift. Two out of three isn't bad, I'll admit.

Perfect Maid isn't even all that good, but it looks so amazing that I will never stop using it.

I might be up for this if I can remember how to get Steam and Soku to work. It's been a while. Then we can all wallow in our misfortune together.

Re: Touhou II: Story of an Eastern Thread
Menage a trois? I'm in the mood to do some knifing/nuking/insert verb here. I do know it's a two-player game, y'know.

Woooooo.
Associate, let me know if there's anything I can help with.
Doctor C. Borgenstein, I'll be back and ready in an hour or so, most likely. If you're still on.

I think I've gotten it to work. I should be idly hanging out in the GitP group's chat if my technology bane hasn't struck.
EDIT: Or not. Nevermind, need to update Tunngle first...
EDIT: Now it should be working. I'm hanging around on Tunngle, and will probably be for the next few hours as well.

Well, good luck with that. Time constraints mean I can't play right now after all.

Re: Touhou II: Story of an Eastern Thread
Feh. You and me, Associate?
-
Re: Touhou II: Story of an Eastern Thread
It's a bit unfortunate that whenever I come home no one's on Tunngle... : (

Re: Touhou II: Story of an Eastern Thread
A pity that we couldn't get connected, Cyborg Mage. I really would have liked to be able to play a human. Perhaps next time?
Anyhow, on related stuff, how does Hamachi work? I tried it just this afternoon after Tunngle didn't work, and apparently Hamachi didn't work either, but, of course, I don't know how to make it do stuff.

Re: Touhou II: Story of an Eastern Thread
Just leaving a note that I'm up for any games of Soku, provided I'm around. Now that the thread's active again, you might find me idling in Tunngle or the Steam group chat. I'm pretty sure I can host without a problem (besides lag depending on location) as well, if you need me to.

Re: Touhou II: Story of an Eastern Thread
I have just had a revelation about Fujiyama Volcano: It is effectively an oversized streaming spell. First wave, direct the volcano to a top corner where it's harmless. Move to side of screen. On the second and third waves, stay close to the red streams of death, and move across the screen. 4th wave, with the single volcano but a large, fast wave of red, be near the middle and dodge to the side. 5th and 6th see 2nd and 3rd. Repeat until captured.
My current nemeses: Hollow Giant:Woo and Iwakasa's Moon Curse.

Re: Touhou II: Story of an Eastern Thread
ZUN has announced a new music CD, Trojan Green Asteroid (insert Psyduck-holding-its-head smiley here), to be released in two weeks. Five original tracks, some interesting selections for the returning ones (Cosmic Mind and Hartmann's Youkai Girl, yay!) and, most importantly, more Renko and Maribel goodness. Hopefully.
(also, about time I posted something in this thread)

Re: Touhou II: Story of an Eastern Thread
They're on the cover at least, so it's a likely assumption. Which means that all I can say right now is "**** yeah". Seriously, if Maribel and Renko were used more, they might well be my favorite Touhou characters and as it is, they're still quite high on the list for me.

I've seen a reference to the number of doujins depicting Maribel getting stuck in Gensokyo's past and becoming Yukari, yet I've never read one. Found any?

I burned all that blasphemous stuff. Sorry.

I have the evidence piled up over here. Should I start with the Lafcadio Hearn thing, or would you prefer Yukari flashbacking to the events of Magical Astronomy? :smallamused:
