Votes tallied through bryn0528.

Re: Vote Up A Campaign Setting 2 (Now Voting: Theme!)
Invasion sounds rather interesting, but I'm not entirely sure how it could be too different from War.
-
Re: Vote Up A Campaign Setting 2 (Now Voting: Theme!)
Ooh, so many good options...but I think I'll go with Exploration.

Re: Vote Up A Campaign Setting 2 (Now Voting: Theme!)
Garden wins .
My vote for the theme is Genesis.

Re: Vote Up A Campaign Setting 2 (Now Voting: Theme!)
I like the juxtaposition of a verdant paradise world and a cynical and crime-ridden world that Noir would suggest.
-
Re: Vote Up A Campaign Setting 2 (Now Voting: Theme!)
Genesis
Because it's awesome.

I think the difference is that Invasion could be the world as a whole is being invaded by extra-terrestrials (oops, slipped back into space, didn't I?).

Re: Vote Up A Campaign Setting 2 (Now Voting: Theme!)
I think I'll vote for Genesis.
Jungle Noir just sounds a bit out there, really.

It's like Watchmen, except taking place in a jungle elf city.

Re: Vote Up A Campaign Setting 2 (Now Voting: Theme!)
Well, with Invasion, there's a very clear goal on both sides. War doesn't necessarily involve just two sides, or a clear divide based on origin, or clear goals.

Additionally, to extrapolate further, War can include things like "Civil War" or "Global War" whereas Invasion might be the result of an overabundance of monsters, a war of conquest, or a giant portal to a nightmare dimension of utter nihilism.

And furthermore, in addition to what my esteemed colleagues said, Garden World doesn't have to be jungle.
Personally, I can see the first person narration of a crime-solving veterinarian on a farm world.

Re: Vote Up A Campaign Setting 2 (Now Voting: Theme!)
While Garden World winning means the one option I held absolutely no interest in got through, I think I can work with this.
Let's see...
One idea I like is a sort of Alpha-Centauri sort of feel - the planet is huge, the various colonization efforts are still new, and the Planet is alive. And it's not happy you're there.
And it has an immune system consisting of worms that eat you from the inside out.
Of course, SMAC incorporates a whole bunch of different elements - Exploration, Horror, Frontier - but I think Genesis is probably the most accurate.
(Also, it still incorporates a few background elements of the option that almost won, without being thematically jarring like Steampunk-Arabian Nights would have been in VUACS1)

I love the idea of a planet that is trying to kill you. Changing my vote from Survival to Genesis.

As much as Genesis could fit that, Invasion would almost be better, with the planet and life-forms already on it being the "invaded" group and the civilizations trying to survive on the planet being the "Invaders".
Though that's my interpretation. I'd prefer the Build-teams take on this before I vote.

Re: Vote Up A Campaign Setting 2 (Now Voting: Theme!)
Yeah, that could fit about six different options.
afro: interpretations?

Leaving aside the fact that no definition of any of these is fixed or certain, I would certainly place "world trying to kill you" in Survival, if anywhere. I'll move your vote for now, but I do hope you read this.
-
Re: Vote Up A Campaign Setting 2 (Now Voting: Theme!)
I vote for Frontier, because its probably the least done of all these settings, and can incorporate Genesis, Savage, and Survival, which in my opinion are most of the other areas that have not been done profusely or had good official settings.
Also, I can't seem to find when the voting will close for this round.
-
Re: Vote Up A Campaign Setting 2 (Now Voting: Theme!)
I suppose I should hold on to my vote until I find out where "The planet is waking up and it doesn't like all these new little monkeys running around on its surface" falls under.
-
Re: Vote Up A Campaign Setting 2 (Now Voting: Theme!)
All votes tallied; Juhn's vote deleted.

Well, I vote Survival, with that understood.

Re: Vote Up A Campaign Setting 2 (Now Voting: Theme!)
I'll vote for Noir, as I don't like Genesis and Eye of the Storm is obviously not going to win. Also the juxtaposition could be interesting. *Imagines dinosaurs in trenchcoats with violent cases and giggles*
-
Re: Vote Up A Campaign Setting 2 (Now Voting: Theme!)
If Afro has anything to say about it (and he does), dinosaurs won't even be an option to vote on. Afro really hates him some dinosaurs. So don't vote hoping for dinosaurs.

Re: Vote Up A Campaign Setting 2 (Now Voting: Theme!)
I really do think that Garden World has a lot of promise as a setting, but seeing these themes I am just blown away.
Hourglass of Zihaja, to be summed up in the one description most apt for the players, is "a desert setting." Sure, there's so much else unique about the settings, such as the cosmology for example, but if we're picking one thing here the players are far more likely to encounter the former over the latter.
I want VUACS 2 to be described in the same way by the Theme vote. So I'm voting Genesis. If pulled off, this could be a campaign setting with an extremely unique premise.

...we're three hours in. Anything could still win - unless this attitude of "it doesn't have votes right just now" prevails. You can always change your vote later if it proves to be true, but it's people not voting for the option they really want that guarantees it won't happen.

Exactly. I voted for Horror, even though I'm pretty sure its not going to win. Everyone should vote for what they really want, and change their votes later if it doesn't work out.

Re: Vote Up A Campaign Setting 2 (Now Voting: Theme!)
I'm casting my vote for Exploration.
