Re: The Black Shingle Fiasco
Avita gives a little excited jump, the hand clutching her bow pumping the air. "Sweet! Popped my murder cherry!" she pipes. And then turns to Andras and say simply "Thanks for the spell, Blue Eyes. I know how hard it can be to keep at the foreplay when you're itching to get down to the nitty-gritty. Now, you ladies and gentlemen in there-"
She turns to face the tower. "-we are here to get you out of here. Wewould rather not sit around out here attracting this freakshow circus like flies to meat while you make up your minds. And just because you see no trouble with throwing your lives away doesn't mean we feel inclined to let you. And as for the "We're fiends in disguise" theory, I have five words. Some Frelling Disguise That'd Be!"
"So. Coming?"

"Darn! I miss! Oh well at least those demons are taken care of."

Re: The Black Shingle Fiasco
Slowly, Andras lowers her sword, but does not sheathe it yet.
"That was... surprisingly easy. Silvet, Sarim, Avita: good job. Eric: the tactical situation did not provide for your talents, so do not feel discouraged.
Now, this spell should last for about a minute, so I believe we should get to hunting, yes? If the people in the tower do not want to come out, they should be safe for the moment."
-
Re: The Black Shingle Fiasco
Right, sounds like a plan. TOWER PEOPLE! Silvet shouts up. We're going to try to clear the area of these monsters! Stay safe!
-
Re: The Black Shingle Fiasco
"So we gonna clear th' place first?" Sarim lifts his massive axe again, smirking and licking his lips a bit. "Music t' my ears."

"Let us do it then."
Bringing her sword to a high guard, she slips forward into the dark alley, all her senses searching for signs of danger or anything out of place.

Re: The Black Shingle Fiasco
The folk in the tower are less than impressed at Avita's attempt at diplomacy, and all she gets in response is a muffled shout. "Leave us alone!"
Marching down the narrow alley, the group is wafted by a disgusting stench - something likely rotten eggs, but smoky. It could just be something rotting in the ruins, but you doubt such a smell exists in the natural world. As you approach an intersection, Eric and Silvet hear something squelching in the mud ahead of them. Footsteps. You have only a moment to ready yourselves before your foes are upon you.
Surprise Round!
From around the corner of a scorched cooper's shop, runs four of the demonspawn, likely investigating the sounds of combat. They look as surprised as you do. Behind them, is a hideous, blue-skinned creature no more than 5 feet tall. Stooped and clumsy, it supports itself on a pair of gangly legs and clawed arms much too long for it. It's face is strangely human, but holds no sign of compassion, only hunger, as evidenced by it's drooping, distended stomach. None of you have any doubt that this wretched beast - which Andras recognizes as a dretch - is the source of the stench.
The first demonspawn, with a hoarse cry of "The Wheel turns!," stabs at Sarim with a dagger, who leaps out of the way at the last instant, while a second 'spawn flanks Sarim from behind, unhinges her jaw, and sinks a pair of too-large teeth into his shoulder. One charges Silvet, saliva dripping from his mouth, only to run directly into Silvet's tower shield, rebounding with a wet thud, while the last demonspawn grabs at Andras' arm and rips away a strip of skin with his teeth, tearing through leather in his eagerness to taste blood.
The dretch begins humming loudly, it's long ears vibrating, and a thick bank of greenish fog descends on the alley, blocking view of those not directly next to you. The only way to tell that anything else exists is the screams and clangs of the melee, now dulled by the fog. Worse, the fog smells like the alley, like the vile dretch, but ten times worse. A hundred times! You can barely resist emptying your belly on the muddy pavement, and the world swirls around you, strength leaving your limbs.

Sarim, take 4 damage. Andras you take 2.
Sarim, Andras and Avita - you're nauseated by the cloud. (your turn is reduced to a single move action)
And we're still on the surprise round, so only Eric and Silvet are able to act.
Also, an honourable mention to Silvet, who got a 30 on her fortitude save.

Re: The Black Shingle Fiasco
Eric's bolt finds it's mark, bringing down the 'spawn trying to gnaw Sarim, she falls to the ground with a scream. Silvet manages to hit all 3 remaining demonspawn with a blast of fire - the one fighting Andras is toast, while the other two are in considerable pain, and entangled. One takes another go at Silvet, dodging around her shield, and manages to find a weak point in her neck, drawing blood. The last one tries again to shank Sarim, and finds his mark. The dretch charges into combat at Silvet, identifying the biggest threat, but it's claws are ineffective against her metal plates.

Did you remember all the penalties for being entangled?
Quote:
The character is ensnared. Being entangled impedes movement, but does not entirely prevent it unless the bonds are anchored to an immobile object or tethered by an opposing force. An entangled creature moves at half speed, cannot run or charge, and takes a -2 penalty on all attack rolls and a -4 penalty to Dexterity. An entangled character who attempts to cast a spell must make a Concentration check (DC 15 + the spell’s level) or lose the spell.

Re: The Black Shingle Fiasco
"Could see this happening" is what Avita would LIKE to say. But breathing seems like a poor idea right now. Unable to fight or see much of anything she turns and moves straight back, out of the cloud, because looking like a coward is something she can live down but doing that horror-movie thing where she backs away from something straight into something nastier is not.
Once out of the cloud she spins to point her bow to face the corner and sets her lungs to full bellow; "BACK, EVERYONE! Out of that reek! Let's get some fighting room! Silvet, Sarim, that means YOU TOO!"

Re: The Black Shingle Fiasco
Avita, of course, has nothing but the vague idea that demons--ACTUAL Demons--are significantly more formidable than the Demoniac humans they've been fighting thus far, but she does know trying to fight down to the wire with so many of the party out of action is just generally a really bad idea.
"NO, Eric. Get yourself out of there." she growls, choking down nausea. "You're not going to kill that thing with enthusiasm."
-
Re: The Black Shingle Fiasco
Eric moves far away from the clouds.

Re: The Black Shingle Fiasco
As the party retreats, the cloud begins to disperse though the stench lingers. With another blast of flame from Silvet, the last two demonspawn are slain, but the dretch persists, pounding on Silvet's shield ineffectively, roaring it's displeasure.
