Is there a way to create complete darkness in D&D?
Not like the "shadowy illumination" that Darkness spells produce, but full on 50% you cant see anything darkness?

I believe the spell Blacklight (SpC) fits the bill.

With the proper setup, prestidigitation. If someone is wearing spectacles or goggles, or they're looking through a telescope or periscope, just change the color of the lenses from clear to an opaque color of your choice. Also, windows.
before the update to 3.5 the "darkness" spell did that. it worked exactly like the light spell only it created magical darkness that even darkvision couldnt see in.
The usual options have already been mentioned. I second Blacklight.
A few additional options are:
Control Darkness (CoR), which let's you boost magical darkness up to complete darkness rather than just shadowy illumination
Creeping Darkness (CA) short lived total darkness + silence movable AOE
No light is basically identical but 3 spell levels sooner.Quote:

True, but it's a 3.0 spell which works by 3.0 darkness rules, a lot of DMs will update it to work like 3.5 darkness.Quote:
