Blood Runs in the Family??
The Order of the Stick shout out page on tvtropes.org has that as the name of the next book. Where was that announced? Or are they just making it up?

Re: Blood Runs in the Family??
It's on the calendar, I believe.
-
Re: Blood Runs in the Family??
Yes, it is on the calendar. Also, some people don't want that name spoiled until their is an official announcement for it.

I haven't actually seen anyone who said "Hey, don't tell me what the new book is called". However, it is possible that some people feel that way.
To answer the OP's question: It hasn't been announced, and will probably only be announced once the book is ready, which will be hopefully by the end of the year. The calendar says what books the various pieces of art come from, which is how people know the name.

Haven't anyone seen myself, though better safe than sorry.
Since it isn't announced yet I personally will not use that term (and use just Book 5), since it is in a weird unannounced limbo :smallwink:, but basically it is public knowledge.
I know that Porthos did spoiler that for his threads quite a long time, though recently he stopped that:

Re: Blood Runs in the Family??
I didn't use spoilers for the title during the Ultimate OOTS Book Tournament, and there were no posts complaining

Re: Blood Runs in the Family??
I have no idea why anybody would want the title of all things kept secret from them until after the book. Its one thing if its actually got a spoiler in the title (like if Rich decided to call a book Xykon's defeat for some inexplicable reason), but the only thing the title reveals is that there will be blood (which is not unique to this book) and there will be family (again, not particularly unique. I don't think theres been a book yet that hasn't had family issues directly or indirectly).

Re: Blood Runs in the Family??
Huh,so that's the name for it. interesting.
And yes, the whole "spoiler" thing is starting to get kind of extreme. :smallconfused:
-
Re: Blood Runs in the Family??
No, it's always been this absurd.
As for the book being out by Christmas, it's extremely unlikely. He's stated that he not only has to reletter the entire book, but he also has to do all the bonus material, which hadn't even been started when the last strip of the book went up. I would not expect it until sometime in 2015. And this wouldn't be the first time. War and XPs came out a year after the book ended.

What?? Next you'll be telling me Roy's a single-class fighter, or that Haley loves Elan!

Minecraft already spoiled the Haley thing. That's why I threw all my computers and devices with Minecraft installed off a cliff.

What!? Do you know how many cute fuzzy animals can die from spoiler reading?!

It was if millions of voices suddenly cried out, then all was silent.

Actually, Spoiler

the best way to make sure most people read what you write is to put it into a spoiler.
. But of course i could be wrong there.

What? How dare you? You have totally ruined forever my enjoyment of reading this comic on the World-Wide Web, because now I have become aware that it is merely a lowly "web" "comic"!!!!!!!

Wow, I was expecting the spoiler nesting to be much more vicious than that.

It's just not the same when you're expecting it. You've gotta bait people, and catch 'em by surprise.

I've found that anime episode titles can be very bad about this, though the ones that are sometimes reveal the title of the next episode at the end of the current one, to make for a memorable cliffhanger. For example, imagine Roy fighting a golem, and then it knocks his sword away right before the episode ends. The next one would likely repeat the final moments of the previous one, then the intro plays, then a box pops up: "Episode 36: Mourning the great leader!" Well, darn. Spoileriffic series will at this point kill Roy. Other series will kill a different leader character (such as having Hinjo come to Roy's rescue but die instead) or possibly introduce a new faction in the plot who have just lost their king or something. Dragonball Z in particular used to have spoileriffic episode titles, often turning the last episode's cliffhanger - "will Goku/Vegeta/whoever prevail against this new foe?" - into an obvious "no, they won't".
I always go via the archive when I check for new Order of the Stick pages, so I always see the titles of the strips first. The titles are usually just jokes, but a few are related to the plot, so luckily Rich is good at avoiding direct spoilers. Titles such as "A Dragon's Victory" in particular made for some mixed feelings followed by subverted expectations.

Re: Blood Runs in the Family??
That did get really bad in DBZ, as I recall. I just looked, and in the first season, there are 3 episodes in a ROW that say "_____ dies/says farewell!"
I think that literally every big event (as far as I bothered checking) is in the episode title. ... Damn, there's a crack in my rose-tinted glasses.
Of course, that may be why it doesn't bother me as much. As long as it's not a two-year wait between episodes, of course. :smalltongue:

The Giant has actually said that he views the titles as mostly a bonus to the actual strip, which is why they aren't in the actual pages and why so many of them are jokes or meta commentary.
