GED: The Five Magical Materials.
This, of course, leads to GED VI: Oh Wait, We Forgot Adamant.

I was looking for a video of these pants, actually, but failed to find one. My Internet Fu is weak.

I think this is a pretty good analogy, in that wrenches are emphatically more awesome than all fruits and vegetables.
I agree with everything this post has to say.

+1 to this.
EDIT:
Also, what does the playground think of these rules for elder exalted?

The episode it's from is called "The Wrong Trousers".

My very first thoughts upon reading those were. But what if we're playing Elders?

Re: General Exalted Discussion IV: Roll Join Debate
Hello, all. Somewhat new to Exalted, and have a couple of questions.
1.) Are there any houserules that are generally held to move the system's logical result away from paranoia combat, or any guidelines for working within the system to not have to worry about it? I'd hate for all those nifty offensive charms to not see any use, but neither do I want to make my character die like a punk for no reason if the ST accidentally makes something more lethal than anticipated.
2.) Are there any general social rules that are unique to games of Exalted?
3.) Chainklave: good weapon or best weapon?

1) I doubt my group will ever to a permanent essence of 6
2) If they do, they'll have to suck it up and play solars.
or~
3) I use avoidance kata and we play essence 7 sidereals.
On a related note: Do lunars have a max essence of 8? If not, how come the oldest lunars only have essence 8?
Other related note: Does it describe how long each exalt type lives? The only reference I could find was to Sidereals, who are the oldest at 3000.

Re: General Exalted Discussion IV: Roll Join Debate
1) Lethality is part and parcel of the game. Give them free Ox-Bodies up to Stamina, make the core artifact armor cheaper. That'll delay death a bit. Also, 'grand' any weapon needs to be withheld from your NPCs at a minimum.

Ox-Bodies equal Essence is the common house-rule. Also, have a perfect defense for a panic button, even if you don't have a full-on paranoia combo.

Er, do you mean IC or OOC?
OOC, if anyone breaks the game intentionally, it is perfectly acceptable and culturally encouraged to punch them right in the goddamn face.
IC, there are a crapload of different cultures in Creation, and it's hard to make generalities.

Good weapon.
Bare hands. Best weapon. (See: Solar Hero Style, Infernal Monster Style)

"No", and "Because Lunars", respectively.

Infernal lifespan fluctuates between 150 years and infinity.

This is the definition of Keyword: Chicanery-No.
Best weapon is Beam-Serpent Sting Staff.
And sidereal life maximum is 5000 years.

1.) Yes, there are several. Which ones and how effective they are depend on who you're asking, I don't have a list, but someone will shortly.
2.) Not sure what you mean. IC or OOC?
3.) Good weapon. Better are Beamfists, Beam Boots, Beam Serpent Sting Staffs, Beam Chainklaves, and Mist Beam Chainklaves.

No, they can hit Essence 10 like any other Exalt. As for for why, no idea, but Essence 10 is a heck of a lot of XP especially when you consider all the Charms and attributes and Abilities you'll want to buy in a thousand years of life.
I don't know the exact length of the Solars/Lunars/DBs off the top of my head. However you are wrong about Sidereals. They live exactly 5000 years past their Exaltation sans intervention from things Outside Fate, or was it just violent deaths in general?
Anyway aside from that Ayssals live forever if they aren't killed, Infernal lifespans are in Broken-Winged Crane and they also have a couple options for making themselves live forever. I believe Alchemicals also live forever sans violent deaths, they at the very least live longer then Solars as Hermegis and the other first Cities are still alive.

Nope. It's just that none of them have lived long enough or had the inclination to get past that.

Sidereals have a hard cap at 5000 years old (Chejop is ~4995-ish). Solars and Lunars have about 3000 years naturally, I think. Dragon-Bloods can live anywhere between 300-700 years depending on their health and such, though it's possible for them to live longer (Saibok Gauto was around 3000 years old). Alchemicals and Abyssals are both immortal. Infernals vary by Essence, going up as it gets higher, but at Essence 1-5, their lifespan is only 150 years, roughly doubling for every Essence dot past the fifth.
The only Exalted type who are truly incapable of extending their lifespan are the Sidereals, though. All of the others can get Charms, Hearthstones, or Artifacts to increase their time.

Re: General Exalted Discussion IV: Roll Join Debate
1.) Thank you, for your points, Lochar and Mr. Bookworm. I shall bear them in mind.
2.) I was indeed referring to OOC, Mr. Bookworm and tonberrian. IC is setting-dependent, and since apparently the Exalted system is used for everything from standard Creation-based games to X-Men-style homes for gifted youngsters, I figured that there wouldn't be much that could be said about every game.
3.) Mr. Bookworm, you raise an interesting point for elegance, but I must say that hands are sadly lacking in ominous hummmmm. tonberrian, beam Chainklave does sound quite interesting. I imagine that the Glorious Solar Saber version that I'm contemplating of a chainklave will have some similarities with it.

I don't believe wiser words have been spoken since The Demented One first laid down the secrets of Chicanery-No to us mere mortals.

I thought Carjack was offered a Gemstone of Immortality or something but declined it cause he saw his death.

Not everyone in the setting has an omniscient third-person perspective. Which is to say, the Sidereals offering it to him thought it would work but Chejop refused because he knew it would not as his death was predestined as are the deaths of all Sidereals.
Or you know it could just be the game contradicting itself, not like that's never happened. But personally I prefer the above.

Ah. Okay, then.
Well, again, bring a mace (as in, spiky blunt bludgeoning object, not name-brand pepper spray) to your games, and just straight-up murder anyone exploiting the rules.
Also, have lots of patience. Combat takes a while, and the system is very, very complex.
Oh, yes, and most importantly, read the errata. All of it.
Not sure what to offer beyond that.

There is absolutely nothing preventing you from using One Hand Fury to make a LASERFIST!!!!!!!!!
Also, for your consideration: Gynoscopic chakrams. Hell yeah.

So in summary, you start sucking harder in massive ways as punishment for getting too awesome.
No. Never. Exalted is not the World of Darkness.

Exalted Discussion V: I want Lunar Errata :smallwink:
edit: Gynoscopic chakrams... Wouldn't those hurt? :smallconfused:

Re: General Exalted Discussion IV: Roll Join Debate
Some Lunars are into that kind of thing.

Re: General Exalted Discussion IV: Roll Join Debate
I dunno. There are probably some Exalts that would get a kick out of throwing razor-women at people. And perfect defenses of any sort make the razored insides merely exotic :smallwink:.
Edit: Then you apply the Beam template to get Lazor-Women. The Beam template has been proven to make everything cooler. Like, about 20% cooler.

I dislike it immensely. Plus, it seems completely unnecessary. Yeah, the big, bad elders can mess you up. Lucky you that there's only like 5 or 6 of them, and Creation is very, very large.

Too bad Rarity didn't consider making the dress into a weapon and then making it a Beam version of said weapon.
Anyway, on the topic of 20% cooler, I believe this picture makes Venus at least 20% cooler.

All right. Your answer does lead to a follow-up question for me, though: for a system like this, how do you decide where to draw the line between exploiting the rules and using your demigodly powers to play as though you were a demigod?
