how can i reduce lag in game ?
Ask the people in Mad Science and Grumpy Technology!
What I do is sit near the router. There are harder, more effective methods, like improving the computer or looking for a better deal from the ISP.

If it's spiky rather than consistent, the simplest, yet often overlooked reason could be that you're gaming on WiFi, instead of through an ethernet cable.
Depends on what exactly is causing the 'lag'.
If it's because your computer can't keep up: turn down the graphical settings; tweak your background programs to free up more resources; buy a better graphics card; plug in more/better RAM; upgrade your CPU; increase your swap file.
If it's due to poor connection speed and it's on your end: buy a better network card; buy a better router; switch to a wired connection; sit closer to the router; kick everybody else off the router to give you more bandwidth; upgrade your internet package; switch to fibre optic; stop torrenting stuff while you're playing.
If it's due to poor connection speed and it's not on your end: run a tracert to find out where the slowest point is and check whether that's having problems - if that's on an intermediate junction, you're out of luck. If it's on the target server, it's probably being DDOSed/down for maintenance so you'll have to wait until they fix the issue.
This is the layman's list - there are more technical things you can do, but you're better off asking in the Mad Science and Grumpy Technology forum for that.
Aside from the above, ditch your ISP modem/router if you have one. They're invariably low quality and just a simple upgrade can greatly increase your general internet quality.
The other thing you might need, depending on what you're doing exactly, is to use a VPN. They can provide speed and reliability increases, in addition to keeping your browsing data private.
Yup. My home only has so many cables, and if I can't get one, so be it.
I usually play mobile games anyway.

A thing I noticed the other day due to terrible lag during a video chat: maybe don't stack giant crates full of books between you and the wireless. Was only a problem because I'm in the middle of a move.
