Maybe we should call the hotel and ask them about their televisions and video game hookups before making someone haul a tv in? Just a thought...
Yeah, I was gonna say... call them. The thought of someone bringing a tv is o_O;...
...Ok, so calling might be a good idea.
But, could somebody explain to me why it's perfectly ok to bring hundreds of dollars worth of gaming equipment, but one mention of a television has everybody going "hey, wait a minute! That's crazy!"?
Oh, I think the bringing of hundreds of dollars of gaming equipment is crazy too. :smallwink: No...
Maybe because hotels don't usually supply gaming equipment? =P
Damn, I'd forgotten about the hookup thing. It's not that we couldn't access the hookups, we did that just fine, the TV just wouldn't show us the game. Like it wouldn't let us choose the right channel or the right input or something. I don't recall exactly.
I won't be surprised at all if a) the hotel doesn't support it and b) the person answering the phone has no idea what you're talking about when you call to ask.
You mean when you call to ask, right baby? You're going to call and ask tomorrow, aren't you? *smiles sweetly* *bribes with deviled eggs*
Fine, fine, I'll call to ask.
*gobbles devilled eggs*
You know that was unfair, right? :smallcool:
Unfair? I spent the whole evening toiling away over a hot stove to create the delectable little morsels you just so unceremoniously gobbled, is it so much to ask for a simple phone call in return? *crosses arms indignantly* :smallwink:
Okay, my deployment extension was cancelled, so I'm back to tentative. Zeb and Alarra, could I maybe hitch a ride with you guys? *bribes with Korean chocolate marshmallow things* :smallamused:
Sure, that'd be fine.
It's confirmed. The hotel TV's don't support game systems being connected to them.
*insert long rant about stupid hotels and dumb practices which lend themselves to NOT providing good customer service for no good reason :smallmad: *
You know, even Motel 6 lets you plug in a Nintendo and offers free high speed internet at $50 a night, but any place that's reasonably nice charges up to $25 a day for the privilege of checking your email and they actually have to pay special TV technicians to include the hardware that disables video games (we know, we met them at GenCon).
Good thing we'll have awesome company to while away the hours!
*cough*
So... yeah. If anyone's got a tv they can reasonably bring... then please. Be a hero to us all.
Hmm, I have one of those flat-screen EDTV's (I think that's what they are called). Its not very big (I think its around 20 some inches, will check when I get home), but that means its not very bulky either, so I could probably bring that.
Does that sound like it would work?
Okay, another update. I won't be going to the meetup, but for a different reason. My folks are coming down from Wisconsin to visit me for the weekend. But thank you, Alarra! I'll have to make it next time.
Aww...more people not going to make it. :smallsigh:
Should I be worried that we still don't have solid plans for a where or exactly when? Where do we want to meet up all together? Maybe go out for dinner or something and move on from there?
Also...Alarra/Zeb: when would be good for the rest of us arriving up at the hotel? Probably best to drop in there firs and unload our stuff and get settled there before moving out?
Well....I believe that we'll be there around 3ish, so after that would probably work well?
Sounds good. I'm aiming for around 4-5 ish, I guess. Google says I have a 5.5 hour drive time, but I figure that means closer to 6 or even 6.5 hours.
Haha... I just went to check my schedule to see when the earliest I could show up on Friday was... and found out I don't have Friday classes this semester!
3 o'clock's the earliest expected arrival time, then? What's the address of this hotel? I'll need to get directions...
I'll be working on Friday, so I won't be able to meet-up until 6 or 7, but I'm a local so anywhere you want to meet up I can find. I may also have a TV if you need it, but its big and heavy (32" standard CRT), so I don't want to bring it unless absolutely necessary.
Would anyone object if I decided to drop by?
I have Friday off, no social life, and a desire to do something random that I normally would never do.
Of course not silly. *does happy Pwenet's coming dance*
Well, based on some chats with Zeb the Troll and Alarra, I am COMING!
Otherwise I think I will be killed by various people for getting their hopes up.
A few questions and facts:
- What time on Sunday is everyone leaving? Being the only person on staff who took NO vacation time over the holidays means I am 99% sure I can take Monday off (and I want to use my first vacation day for a forum meetup).
- I live in New York State, and according to google it is 8 hours on expressway, so I'll aim to be at the hotel at 3-4pm.
- I also have a xbox360, and I'm willing to bring it and games if requested.
- When will money be owed and the like?
- Should I bring my own sleeping bag and pillow or we just using what is at the hotel?
- What else is going on? Are people going to catch that movie?
Yeah, lots of questions, sorry, only done one of these once before.
so word came back down the line of command, and they MIGHT consider POSIBLY keeping us on and MAYBE scrapping all the old labels that COULD lead us to six months overtime on weekends.
but with nothing definate and this only a week away, put me down as a secure, ready and willing, maybe.
I can make the drive to the hotel in the morning and meet you all there or wherever everyones going. i've got me a youngin to go home to so i can't stay the night, don't want to leave him with my wife overnight and all, he still gets seperation anxiety over each of us.
i do have a few questions. i'd prefer a PM for the first one, cause it's what it is.
1: if i can make it whats the phone number i call to figure out where you all are if not at the hotel?
2: is this all weekend or an overnight party? there's talk of the hotel room and a game system but not of what to do outside of the hotel.
The answer to number 2, at least, is that it's an all weekend affair. We've got people coming from Canada and Maryland at whatnot, so a one-night party would be something of a waste.
There's no talk of what to do outside the hotel because... well, nobody from Cleveland is speaking up. Who knows what we'll do? Play it by ear, I think.
We were talking Rock Hall, but if that's to cliché for anybody...Rock Hall Saturday morning, games and possibly other stuff Saturday afternoon, something Sunday morning and then we all go home at lunch?
I dunno...at the very least, we need to know where we're all meeting up, both hotel people and non-hotel people, and when exactly. I'll bug Sam next time I see him on AIM, but I'd really like to get an itinerary together.
Someone besides me suggest things to do! :smalltongue:
Cleveland Science Museum? Lunch/Dinner/Prettymuchanymeal in Little Italy? (You could see my Great Grandfather's wine press!........I just forget which restaurant it's in.........But Little Italy has the bestest smell in creation ever)
I feel I should say something else but I'm not in the mood to research it more....
i'm up for anything that i can do while conversing to fellow meetup people. I'm all for tabletop RPG, but there will probably be loads of OOC chatter, and we could all do that doing something else. I find wii games much easier to talk during than i do D&D.
I'm for the science museum, but if they put me on overtime i don't get to go at all, so if i can show up i'll just follow what ever you guys do. unless nobody can decide, then i say "science!"* because someone has to decide.
*science yelled as only a hetrodyne can yell it. or as well as one can mimic a hetrodyne yelling science anyway.
