In order to see tracks in the sand you need a spot check. Might as well roll a listen as well for complete perception.

As far as I am aware Sylvan does not equate speak with animals. Since a hawk does not speak a language, it will simply make it's animal noise (a shriek for hawk's I think) when it perceives Yemish. And it does so right now. You see nothing however.
