[Operative's Office]
"Ok, but I hope you have someone in mind who will succeed. I don't want to have any witness. Either catch them or kill them."
He looks serious at the operative. It seems important that they don't make much trouble.
Teq's Ship
Teq frowns at the little man. Very discerning, for one who hasn't worn armor. He steps over to the shelf himself and withdraws a thin belt. The circular buckle glows with power. "Put this on."
Should Fade do so, not only will it tighten around his waist, he should suddenly feel a surge of energy from the item. A thin green field springs to life all around him before vanishing entirely. The belt thrums readily.
Teq's Ship
Fade put it on as asked. he wonders what this will do, but he can imagine since he called this whole items armor.
"What does it protect me for? And does it spread over extern parts of me as well?"
Teq's Ship
"It forms a... field, around your body. The AI within can discern, within picoseconds, whether or not a projectile will harm you. If so, a buffer of kinetic energy will spark to life and deflect the projectile." Teq returns to his rifle, dismounting the scope and attaching a new one, along with a small laser sight. However, Fade hasn't lost his attention. "The charge is limited. Try to stay out of heavy fire."
Teq's Ship
Fade still wonders trying to grab where the shield appeared.
"So it only keeps bullets away or everything thrown at me? How many charges does it have."
Next to Fade appears a shadow Version of him. Observing him from another direction. Maybe he miss something.
Teq's Ship
The belt does not react. It hums quietly, but does not light the air again.
"It will deflect blows, but to a lesser degree. The resilience of the barrier depends on... a number of factors. The enemies weaponry, it's rate of fire, where the hits land..."
Teq's Ship
Fade seems to understand all Teq mentions.
"How obvious is it? Will it only appear while get shot or can people notice it before?"
There are still two Fades standing around watching each other.
Teq's Ship
"That's corre-" Teq starts to turn, then blinks at the second Fade. The giant just shakes his head. Damned Nexus. "That's correct. You'll have to be shot at for them to tell it's there."
Teq's Ship
From his point of view they should seem to be twins expect one has a belt on the other not.
"Would it also stop me from shooting something or keep something away a friend throws to me?"
Not that Fade use guns or else.
Teq's Ship
"No, and yes. Though that would depend how fast and hard the object is thrown. Besides, if something needs to be thrown that desperately, the field can simply be switched off." Teq points at a small, inconspicuous button on top of the buckle.
Teq's Ship
A giant points at a small button on a human size belt. The real Fade still looks up to the giant while the other Fade is trying to push the button. Hopefully there is just one since he can't really say where exactly the giant points at.
"Is there anything other I should care about?"
Teq's Ship
There is just a single button, yes. The air around fade flickers green again, quite an interesting visual effect, then the belt falls silent.
"Don't leave it on all the time." Teq says. He sounds like someone's who's used to training new recruits, giving orders - even if Fade is quite the experienced killer. "And don't get shot at with energy weapons. Some will bypass the shield entirely."
Teq looms over him. "Do you have any questions?"
Teq's Ship
Fade just looks up.
"You mean these light beam things? Don't worry, I met someone using them and they where kind of useless."
Then Fade and shadow Fade walk over to Teq and his weapons.
"Why do you use these?"
Teq's Ship
The question is enough to bring Teq brief pause. He looks at Fade and Fade, hands on his rifle.
"Maximum efficiency, I suppose." He almost hopes Fade asks what he means. It's been a while since he got to brag.
Teq's Ship
Fade wonders. A slight appearance of confusion is noted.
"Really? A guy like you...of your size needs such things for maximum efficiency?"
The shadow Fade in this time takes a close look around. He tries to make out how high this place is. Since I'm not sure what Teq is. Best thing is would a giant fit in this room?
Teq's Ship
The ceiling is about ten feet high. Teq's almost nine, so it suits him fine. He flashes a brief, mild smile at the question. "My size has nothing to do with it."
Teq lifts his favorite rifle, the 7-foot cannon he's been gearing up. "This is the Bolt, Mark 2. This weapon can destroy an armored, shielded vehicle from 2 miles away in gale force winds." He lays a hand on the steely barrel like it's an old friend. "Against something like this? The world's strongest man is nothing but red paste on a wall."
Teq's Ship
Seems like the room is to small to show of a giant. There would hardly fir in his head.
"I don't think so. Your limited in your ammunition. and with all such big weapons you get slow aiming. And if your enemy is to close there isn't really use for that weapon"
Suddenly the shadow from Fade changes his shape. it's still hard to make out what it is cause it consists of shadow, but it is obvious that it changed into a woman.
Teq's Ship
The mandibled giant certainly seems comfortable. He clicks thoughtfully, then sets the rifle aside, retrieving a smaller, more compact weapon. It is a decorative, handheld submachine gun with a long, curved magazine near the front of the weapon. It's color scheme is a red-salmon, with several glowing ID markers all along the gun's length. "That's what I have this for. Superheated rounds. I've literally cut men in half. No shortage of ammunition, either."
Teq's Ship
Fade doesn't look impressed. After all he doesn't show of any emotion.
"Again you need some space and aiming. You just lowered the range."
The shadow woman in this time walks around mainly trying to be behind Teq.
[Operative's Office]
"Good."
He graps into his bag dragging out several bags of gold. It will be the amount the operative wanted. He also hands over a cell phone.
"With that you can call me when your done. Anything else?"
"Rapid-fire weapons are designed for swift engagements. In a pinch, aiming becomes unnecessary - a wide spray is sufficient." Teq quirks a brow at the male Fade, ignoring his female counterpart for now. "Besides, I see similar limitations on your weapon. You need space, you have to get close to the enemy, and a sword is far easier to dodge."
Teq's Ship
Bad for him that he ignores her.
"Really? Well then let's test it."
With that the shadow woman tries to touch Teq from behind enchanting him with a spell. The enchantment will block his movement, just sas if every single muscle lays in chains unable to move. The spell is will based so he may prefent the effect.
If not fade will head forward drawing his sword and slashing at Teq. If that happens Teq should notice that the sword don't hurt, it doesn't even cause a wound, but still seems to pass his body.
((The effect of the sword is normal and there won't be any wound later or else. fade would soon describe it))
Teq's Ship
The fake attack happens as Fade expects, but Teq's natural magic resistance allows him to move about sooner than expected. He scowls at the assassin.
"That's not a good example. I could just as easily do this." He flicks the gun up at his hip, detaches the magazine, and pulls the trigger in one smooth motion. It makes an angry thrumming sound at being dry-fired. "Even the spell requires you to get close."
Teq's Ship
Fade is confused. Assuming Teq aims at him with his weapon. His sword is hold down and seems to ignore the ground as well.
"I still think my weapon was effective. If I would try to kill someone I wouldn't need to go close."
Actually Fade speaks of his shadow as weapon. If Teq turns around he should notice that the woman isn't there. Only a hand coming from the bottom is visible and caused the enchantment.
Teq's Ship
"I won't argue the effectiveness of your sword. For a pointy piece of steel, it is a dangerous thing," Teq smiles grimly. He's certainly been cut and stabbed enough times to know. "I merely walk a different path."
Teq's Ship
Fade looks back confused for a moment.
"Oh you mean the sword. It works different then it did in my home world, but it is a good weapon as well."
Fades shadow returns to him as a normal shadow.
Teq's Ship
"And how did it work there?" Teq asks in passing, adjusting the sights on his rifle.
Teq's Ship
Fade starts looking for something to show it. Something that could be destroyed and is big enougth to throw a shadow.
"It cut through everything. Not like now just passing by. It already did go through bodys stone and skull like a hot knife threw butter."
Fade also wonders why Teq didn't asked for the shadow most people seem to notice that first. maybe Teq didn't.
Bar
A rather frustrated looking drow wraith floats in. The incorporeal drow seems to be made of smoke. His form is of a well-muscled, very handsome drow in a black pinstriped suit. He walks to the barman, Hello. I have a business proposal for your friends sir. I believe you understand. Javert is all business and doesn't crack his usual lopsided grin.
