Test Of Spite, Olo V. Yahzi
Select buff times, and inform me if the attached map will suit:
Illumination is Shadowy.
Casting from platform to platform has a 50% failure chance as this is on the Infinite Staircase.
The doorways lead to each other in a pattern you are not aware of.
Teleportation works within ranges of 80 feet.
Falling off drops you back onto the staircase at a random location within the arena.
Flying between the platforms likewise drops you into a random location on the arena.
This means that jumping is a potentially viable but very painful escape route.
Oddly, these are the actual rules for the actual location in 2e\3.5e

Re: Test Of Spite, Olo V. Yahzi
I vote for no buffs!
It doesnt make clear WHERE we start... are we on the two nearby staircases?
-
Re: Test Of Spite, Olo V. Yahzi
The blue dots are your starting locations, unless you have a burning urge to start elsewhere. I know the map's a little awkward, but it is also awesome. Normally the doorways lead out into various extraplanar locations, but here they will lead to the other doorways in a pattern you are not yet aware of.

Re: Test Of Spite, Olo V. Yahzi
Its an awesome map, but
TidesingerSpoiler

it seems really bad for someone as melee focused as me. If Yahzi is a spellcaster, this battle will be over before I can do anything important.

You can't draw LoS very easily through it, actually, particularly not if you lurk in the corners or crouch on the stairs. Also, it's quite dark and large enough to be uncovered by dark vision or true sight.

Oh, ok...I think that would work...Its hard to know though, until the acutal battle, whether this will severely limit me or not. But whatever, we can roll with it if Yahzi finds it ok...BTW, would scent help me here?
EDIT: I call top spot!

Scent will always help people in my games.
It'll be interesting to see who ends up more limited. It's a very strange and very oddly shaped arena.

Re: Test Of Spite, Olo V. Yahzi
Ah, sorry I was out.
Yes, it appears that my character may in fact be able to physically occupy this map, on account of the notation that says "1 square = 10'". Thank you.
As for buffs, I agree with "none."
Hopefully this won't be just an initiative roll, but then, we are 13th level... anyways, here goes:
Spoiler

I can't start on the stairs, so it's either the platform below the stairs or the upper platform - your choice. I've described my starting position in terms you may choose to cut and paste for Olo, adding or redacting material as you see fit.
At each corner of the platform you see a huge figure (30 ft tall), dressed in flowing black robes. Even their faces are concealed by black masks. All four are armed with massive bows and greatswords. In the center of the platform is a black palaquin of ordinary dimensions. Like a carriage without wheels, with long poles that allow two of the gigantic figures to carry it easily. Surrounding the palanquin are eight human-sized, black-robed figures, wielding halberds and bearing crossbows. They stand facing outwards, 10 feet from the palaquin (which is itself 10 x 10 ft). The windows of the palaquin are shuttered with black drapes. Only the heads of the figures move, scanning constantly for danger, threat, or simple motion.
Edit: Added a line about masks...

Let's get our init rolls out of the way guys, and let's see who finds who first.
Tomorrow night, I'll number and grid the platforms, so that it's easy to specify where you are moving to.

You can make all my rolls for me. That seems the quickest and easiest method. Just pick up a die, announce "I am rolling for Yahzi!" and roll. Heck, if you want, you can roll twenty times right now, write them down in the order you rolled them, and then just cross one off as you use it.
You have my char sheet for reference, but I'll list the pertinent facts below.

My initiative modifier is 2. My character sheet wrongly identifies it as 5. Sorry about that - I've fixed it now. My large companions are 6 and my small companions are 4, if that matters.
Edit: Oops! Ok, fixed it.

EDIT: Wait, why are you rolling for Yahzi multiple times? Are those his minons or something :smalleek:

Yes, I have minions, but I have no idea why he's rolling for all of them. I would just roll for the main character and be done with it.
Is there something I'm missing about rolling? I thought it would be easier if the DM made all the rolls.
Anyway, here's my action:

The minions scan carefully in all directions. If they spot anything, they shoot at it. Arrows are cheap.
If nothing is spotted, I'll cast Magic Vestment as discreetly as I can.
Edit: I figured out how to roll. I didn't even know it was possible! At least, I think I did; I guess you can only roll the first time you post (but not when you edit?) Anyway next time there is a roll, I'll try to make it happen.

I'll cast Magic Vestment this round, as quietly and discreetly as I can.
Next round, I dispatch one lesser minion up each of the three staircases attached to my platform. Their orders are to walk to the next platform, look around, shoot once at anything alive or moving, and then walk back to my platform. I also prepare to cast another spell - Resist Energy: Fire - if nothing interesting happens first.
How far can I see - or more importantly, how far do I think my minions can see?
Olo, there are great secrets hidden in this dungeon. Since you're trying to steal them before I can, obviously you must die.

I assume it's just a room in the Dungeon of Spite we all came here to loot explore. Perhaps it is the entrance, or one of the entrances.

Re: Test Of Spite, Olo V. Yahzi
It is, arguably, one of the entrances actually, but it's also the infinite staircase. Suffice to say that you didn't like the looks of each other.
At olo:

You emerge at a small platform with what appears to be a spiral staircase downward set into the center of it. To your surprise, the doorways no longer lead away from the staircase the way they ought to. There seems to be simply no way out. It seems logical however, that the doorways traverse this particular segment of the stairway, which you are beginning to suspect has broken off of the rest of the structure entirely.

I'll need to know their move speed, Yahzi, as these are ten foot squares.
