Didn't realise that the winter sale was starting today. Bought some DLC which my parents had promised I could have the money back for for christmas.
Then the steam sale happened about 7-8 hours later and it went down by 50%. :smallfrown: Sent a message to valve in the slim chance something might happen, but I doubt it. Just annoyed.

There is actually a fair chance they'll refund you the difference. A friend of mine bought a game the day before the summer sale and then it went on sale and they gave him back the difference in steam cash after he contacted them.

Re: [Steam]-y Thread 30: Throwing titles out the window!
So Darksiders and Darksiders II are on sale, and both are also in the THQ collection which goes for cheaper than both together now.
I kind of want to try these games due to their themes and a friend has already played through the first, so I figure I might like it. Does it involve a lot of timed button mashing though? Like the case can sometimes be with Xbox/PS3 games? It kind of seems like it might be that type of game, which isn't my cup of tea, so if it features that a lot...

I found Darksiders rather button mashy, but not too much of it was timed. Reminded me a little of God of War (though I haven't played that much). I gave up on the game when I reach the sand-worm boss that you have to shoot at from horseback.

I'm also waiting to see some gameplay with these new weapons, but I'm all for discussing them until I get that chance :smalltongue:
The shotgun seems like it could be very over-powered. Moving entire bases quickly could be possible if it has a range like the pomson. Combined with repairing from afar, it seems like we could be seeing a lot more tanky level 3 sentries on the front lines.
The new medigun is what I'm most excited about. I've recently developed a fondness for the quickfix, since it's increased healing rate seems to be just about the only thing that can keep a team of pubbies alive. Being able to apply a damage reduction sounds like an interesting alternative to stop people dying, and perhaps will earn me less hate too.
After seeing tons of wonderful ideas for demoman weapons in the workshop, I'm left feeling dissapointed with the cannon. I guess only time will tell if it can compete with the stock grenade launcher though.

If I'm reading this right, maybe the new shotgun uses more of your metal the farther away you are.
No way to be sure until get my hands on the thing though.

Re: [Steam]-y Thread 30: Throwing titles out the window!
Anyone know if there is a way to set a timer on gifts? I bought some games that I want to give out as christmas gifts and won't have access to steam on the 24th (We celebrate christmas on the 24th in Iceland) so it would be nice if I could have steam automatically transfer these gifts at 18:00 that day.

That's quite debatable. Although playable, I wouldn't call it fun to play. It's dissimilar enough to SotS Prime that you might yourself disappointed with it.

Re: [Steam]-y Thread 30: Throwing titles out the window!
From about ten minutes playing against some of the new weapons:
The knockback on those cannonballs is really impressive. It felt like a strong airblast, but with some good range.
The medigun lets people know which mode it's in by big shield icons over people's heads. At present it seems like a real big package of infomation to consume, and I'll have to see if I can get used to it.

Re: [Steam]-y Thread 30: Throwing titles out the window!
The shotgun's range on grab is crazy. Costs 130 metal, but still.

It has recently been declared on their forums that it's now in a state that they consider it should have been at release (Over a year ago).
I, for one, hate it with the passion of a million blazing suns while I absolutely loved the 1st one and expansions and played them to death.
The UI is horrendous, the mission system is intrusive, doing anything seems to take forever, the tech tree has been voilated, the voices all grate on my nerves and I don't think it looks as nice compared to ANY.
Having said all that, there are quite a few people who like it, so I'd say grab it and give it a try, but don't expect too much lest you be horribly disappointed.

In other news, the prince of persia game bundle has my interest. Anyone want to recommend if I should indulge myself? I only watched my cousin play some of them for a little bit, and was wondering if they were good.

Just get Sands of Time and PoP '08. TWW and T2T put too much focus on action over platforming.

Meaning?
(Pretend I still know nothing about these games other than being able to undue mistakes for several seconds at a time and its a combination of puzzles and beating the crap out of badguys.)

Re: [Steam]-y Thread 30: Throwing titles out the window!
They're more hack & slash than platformer, I guess? :smallconfused:
Not that it's a bad thing.

Also, the Engineer has less ammo in reserve, so he can't keep fixing buildings this way. I haven't seen anyone using it yet.
Watching other players use the Vaccinator makes it more confusing, though. :smalltongue:

They're not bad games, but there are better action games, and I was tired of the Godsmack-filled soundtrack by the time I was an hour into TWW.
SoT, '08, and TFS are worth your money though. More so the first two, though.

Re: [Steam]-y Thread 30: Throwing titles out the window!
Guys I just had a thought: What if you paired up the Rescue Ranger with the Eureka Effect? Would you be able to pick up buildings with the Ranger's effect? Or would you only be able to use the long range repair function?

Improved over the brooding, perpetually angry, gruff-sounding prince whose ensemble consisted of various songs by Godsmack, but still lacking the charm of Sands of Time. It's an alright game.
Personally, I like Sands of Time and Prince of Persia '08 to The Warrior Within and The Two Thrones. The Forgotten Sands is also pretty solid, but has some choppy combat and "PC Port" written all over it.

So essentually the first 2 games are good while the rest deteriorate, correct?

I'd say if you like a really solid platformer, you'd enjoy Sands of Time and Forgotten Sands. Prince of Persia '08 is just plain beautiful, and plays great as well.

Alright then, thank you.
Edit: Eh, they're all for 12 dollars, I'll just get them all and decide if I like them or not.

Yeah, I had that brilliant flash of reason right after I said "three fifths of the bundle is good, which should run you about $9... Oh right."

Re: [Steam]-y Thread 30: Throwing titles out the window!
I told myself "Maybe Natural Selection 2 will be on sale? I should wait for Christmas sales before buying christmas gifts" I SAT THERE contemplating it for bloody 6 hours and decided "Eh, NS2 doesn't seem like something that'll go on sale. Maybe I should get Chivalry 2 aswell since it doesn't seem like it'll go on sale."
BAM
SALE
:smallfurious::smallfurious::smallfurious: GABEEEEEEEEEEEN
