Tweak the lovers. Even if you don't wish to let the lovers know each other, at least allow the individuals to know they are lovers.

And have a nifty wooly co-host.

Yeah, in Empire II the "lovers" (May I say ewwwwwwwwww?) will know each other. 1 time thing in Empire.
