Re: The OOTS Reprint Drive at Kickstarter: Pledge now to get exclusive rewards!
Aww, I missed the stampede :smallfrown:
I didn't want anything, it's just weird watching the forums go deathly silent while everyone's on Kickstarter arguing with their wallet about bein able afford a pledge upgrade.

Re: The OOTS Reprint Drive at Kickstarter: Pledge now to get exclusive rewards!
Have any of the 10 lucky pledgers for the complete magnet sets made their identity known?

Trying to treat this like a straight sale "I'm buying these books for $X" is probably not a good idea.
Rich isn't exactly a charity, and I need money a lot more than he does considering that there's more than a quarter of a million dollars pledged in sales. Besides which, the goal as I understood it was to ensure there were enough people committed to buying to make a print run worthwhile, not to get people to pay extra.

No, the goal is to raise enough money to fund the printing -- enough to afford full print runs so that the books are available in stores for as long as possible. If you don't want to help ensure that other people can buy OotS books, you can always wait and buy them once they've been printed.

In that case what I would do is:
A) Wait until the books are back in print and buy them then.
or
B) Figure out how to get the stuff you want at the price you want and get a second Kickstarter account to do so.
But NerfTW is quite right. This isn't a storefront. As I said many pages ago,:
Quote:
But on one level the whole point of a pledge drive is: Is "X package worth it to me to give Y money to Person/Group Z" (remembering that some people will peldge an amount and expect nothing in return). If so, then it really doesn't matter if there are better options one could make. But if what someone wants is to make the best deal possible, take the steps to get it.
Even if one ignores the peculiarites of USPS shipping costs (which have been discussed to death here and elesewhere), the thing is Rich can't change the amount a pledge point costs even if he wanted to once someone has chosen it.
So if it isn't worth it to you, don't feel pressured to get it. Just get what you are comfortable with. And if that is some books now and some books later? Well, that's still some money to the drive, inn't?

Less than $24,000 until Mystery Prize #3!

Re: The OOTS Reprint Drive at Kickstarter: Pledge now to get exclusive rewards!
Do we have an OOTS barter thread somewhere?
Something where I could say "Hey - anyone have a Belkar magnet? I'll trade you the rights to a Crayon drawing for a Belkar magnet!" etc.

It was mentioned a few other times in the thread, but Rich actually has quite a few copies of SSaDT available, so he's not afraid of running out. He does, however, think he'll pull the remaining stock off of Ookoodook after the drive is done and keep them as rewards for other things, so this might be the last chance to guarantee a copy.

You are totally correct Rich isn't a charity. He also doesn't have money coming out his wazoo to pay to get all the books reprinted. I've looked into trying to get some stuff published, it isn't cheap.
Rich has also given us 9 years (give or take) of enjoyment for free. Yes some of us have paid for books and extra OoTS stuff. I have friends that love OoTS and have never paid a cent though cause Rich puts it on the net for free. So those of us that can (and some that can't) are more than happy to pay Rich back for some of that joy he has given us, so others can also enjoy.
This isn't a store (which has been said before, and apprently just recently too, darn I type slow when I'm tired) where you go in and buy x items for Y amount.
I also am pretty sure Rich was never expecting to see so much be pledged so quickly. I can picture Rich going to kickstarters and putting a goal of $57,000 thinking he may or may not make that in a month to get just enough books printed for those that want them.
Anyways, if you don't feel like you want to or can't pledge money, you don't have to. If you want to buy the books in a store later on, well looks like you'll be able to now.

Start one. I'm sure a lot of people want to trade something for something else.

Re: The OOTS Reprint Drive at Kickstarter: Pledge now to get exclusive rewards!
Yay!
I chosen the "25$ or more" and pledged 65$, that is:
25$ for the pledge
30$ for "any one book"
10$ for "international order"
I succesfully checked out with Amazon but...
Where do I specify wich book do I want?
edit
Sorry, I was too excited and didn't read the confimation email saying:
"When your reward is ready, Rich Burlew will send you a survey via email to request any info needed to deliver your reward (mailing address, t-shirt size, etc)"
So I guess I'll wait! :D

Re: The OOTS Reprint Drive at Kickstarter: Pledge now to get exclusive rewards!
So glad to see all of the books being reprinted. With international shipping fees being what they are, I'd always been hoping to be able to order them all at once some day in order to minimise the shipping costs. I've now happily put my name down for a complete collection :smalltongue:
One question though. In update 6 it said that if you wanted a bunch of books and the kickstarter exclusive print, one would be included free for every pledge above $250. The complete collection plus international shipping does come to over $250, but would that qualify?

Re: The OOTS Reprint Drive at Kickstarter: Pledge now to get exclusive rewards!
I was out surfing the net when I noticed that the comic had updated, so I immediately went to kickstarter to see if there had been an update there as well (a first for that kind of reaction to comic update). When I got there I saw it had, and since I consider myself sort of a veteran on this drive I didn't read it but scrolled down to see if any new juicy high-end rewards had been added.
Then I saw the whole signed book package and crayons* and gasped at the pledge level while my credit-card, which was sitting beside me, whimpered in sympathy with the ones going to get used for that.
But after I regained my cool I looked closer and saw that it was quite a nice package (if you didn't have any books), and that the crayon came out just slightly more expensive than at the lower level.
Well, I'm glad I already had what I wanted (although I'm getting closer to that level of pledge regardless), but I'm even happier that others got the chance even though they weren't around in the first few days.
Nice of you Giant.
*I first thought you'd just get a box of Burlews favourite crayons, which would have been fun.

Now THAT's something I'd pay good money for. :smallwink:
On related news, I still wasn't able to pledge. :smallannoyed: I hope the issue will resolve itself before Friday… even earlier would be nice.
Also, how long do you think it'll take to reach Mystery Prize #3? It looks like the post-update-excitement has cooled off a bit for now.

Re: The OOTS Reprint Drive at Kickstarter: Pledge now to get exclusive rewards!
I'm a bit of a derp... I pledged $35, what do I get?

Maybe he could add an "draw your own crayon kit". :smallwink:

Depends on what reward level you selected. Regardless of that (if you did select a reward-level) you'll get the O-chul-pdf, Dim-Sun-pdf, Roy Magnet and the three high-end reward comic pdf-strips.

I guess there's no other way to pledge?

I assume Germany doesn't do prepaid cards either? That's sad. :smallfrown:

Amazon can be used with debit cards, not just credit cards.

Sage advice.
As much as I'd like to support authors whose works I enjoy, I will probably make a smaller pledge and buy the rest of the books at a later date. Thanks.

The last person who said his country didn't do them found out he was wrong, so chances are you CAN get them in Germany...no idea where you'd go to get one, though!

Read your sources. I said I couldn't find them. And then found out the name was different. I also said Germany has them. Those I found. Mastercard side has a source for it if I'm not mistaken.

The Debit cards KoboldBard talks about are creditcards, but than prepaid, you put a certain amount of money on them.
I will order one this evening, so I can get the 3 print only books. And off course the magnet and the PDF's.

Seconded...
I was really disapointed when I found about this whole thing too late and they were all grabbed up. (just got a new fridge)
I doubt there's any chance if all the books get reprinted that rich would consider going for another drive to reprint them as well?
Damn, can't even find them on ebay.
