It had been a whole half week, and still nothing. Village after village, town after town, and not a single fight to be had. This adventure was becoming quite dull. Today you finally left the main roads onto a small mountain path overgrown with forestry. Some of you were likely glad for the peace and quiet, but those sentiments quickly faded as your collective backs began to ache from dragging overgrowth off the trail so that the mule wouldn't twist a leg in some unseen fissure. Night was descending, and with no town nearby Fillangus Doddlehop thinks it best to set up camp.
"Now, I don't know much of fighting, but I do know my mules are beat. Should it be safe to just pull the carts off over here and throw up a few tents?"
The narrow road winds through the hills with trees pressing in on all sides, and a rather steep decent to the left of the trail with a slight rise to the right.

Re: The Wonderful exploits of Fillangus Doddlehop&co IC
The tall young man in the fancy armor, who had been sweating the entire time, but had refused to remove the heavy, sweltering armor, despite the peacefulness of the journey thus far, stops moving, and looks around, obviously examining the surroundings.
Seeing nothing amiss, Simon shrugs, his armor clanking as his shoulders move.
"Seems safe enough to me. However, I will check before we move the wagons."
Simon starts walking towards the small rise on the right, clearly looking around for any threats.

Re: The Wonderful exploits of Fillangus Doddlehop&co IC
TARAKA
The hideous half-orc maiden is a sight to behold. She has putrid olive skin; sharp - but diminutive - fangs; a decided under-bite; large black eyes; greasy, unkempt black hair; and thick, meaty fingers, each of which ends with an elongated nail that has been filed to a point.
The maiden has been belching grunts and stomping her feet all day. She does not adore the heat, nor does she relish working with so many humans. She has to remind herself constantly that these humans are not the evil Knights that slew her kin. Fillangus Doddlehop had repeatedly told Taraka that those men were not Knights but vile Bandits. Taraka was weary of his explanation, it seemed too convenient to be true. However, Fillangus was a nice man who gave her lonesome life purpose, which was far more than she had every dreamed possible.
The half-orc watches with curiosity as the sweaty human leaves the group and heads off towards the hills. She followed this man, for she did not believe him capable of dealing with a bug, let alone Knights or monsters.
"TARAKA THE BUTIFUL," she places an undue amount of emphasis on the last word, "Follo punee man. Stag Smasher kill anythin' his metal armor not save him frum."

Faelyn Aldaar
"Wait here for a moment, we will look around and see if there is a better place, or if there is anything dangerous here." he says to the merchant in a quiet voice and walks to look around the place, but trying to stay near, so he could call for help just in case.

Casimir
"Ah yes, the wilderness camp!" Casimir exclaims, his dry tone, giving lie to fact that he was not as enthusiastic as his words proclaimed. He glances around, and sees the surrounding forests pressing in, and the descent to the left, then calls after those that are exploring, "Remember a better place means somewhere with cobbles, an Inn, and beds." He shrugs, and glances at the mule, which in turn looks at him with a surprising amount of pity in the animals eyes, "Oh and some real hay for the mule!"
Grumbling a little under his breath, he vaguely pats the mule, and glances around, to see if there's anything to be seen.

A small human boy was mumbling barely audible words as he steadily treaded along with the group. After a couple of hours of an uneventful trip, the boy Ryuuhei easily got bored and fell asleep as he walks.
Ehh...Veridia-kun, I can't believe it... ehh, shouldn't you... ehh...huh... HUH? What?!
The sudden change of pace caused Ryuuhei to bump against the person in front of him, his muscle memory instantly reacting to wake him up. It was really a terrible timing, just as he was about to finally reach his dream.
Apparently, his merchant employer already called it a day, and they will be camping by the hill. Not to be outdone by the other folks, he went along and inspected the area despite being so unskilled in such tasks.

Assuming the rest of you guard the merchant, and rolling up quick survival for the rest of you that are looking.
Taraka the Beautiful and Simon discover some tracks that look to belong to a stag. If anyone has track you can follow them. In either case clearing underbrush until there's room to take the carts off the road, let alone to clear odd patches in which to erect tents. With another two to three hours you could clear enough of the thick bushes to clear a circle around the site, or just take -3 to spot potential threats. Feel free to set up any details like night watch. Lets split it into three shifts. Pick a shift and roll a spot and listen.
Meanwhile Fillangus Doddlehop takes a bedroll from his cart, and spreads a winter blanket over the top in case it were to rain on his goods. He rolls the bedroll out under the cart, and starts a small fire with some of the brush you already hacked down, in order to start heating some gruel that smells dishearteningly flat. As it cooks he pulls out a small journal, in which he begins to write pausing to think twice as long as he writes. When the gruel is done he offers it around, and if nothing else at least it's hot. He also offers a water-skin as there aren't any creeks nearby.
At dark he'll climb into his bedroll and sleep.

Re: The Wonderful exploits of Fillangus Doddlehop&co IC
Faelyn comes back disappointed that he didn't find anything. He helps with clearing the space for rest and insists that they clear out a circle so they could see incoming enemies.
He takes 2nd and 3rd shift, thinking that he would rest better when it's still dark.

Simon, sees the tracks, although he has no skill in hunting, and no skill in tracking, leading him to swiftly ignore them as unimportant.
As he has made the decision to protect the caravan, he resolutely starts clearing the brush, trying to enhance the protection. As the others set up their tents, and their beds, and eat the gruel, Simon slowly eats the gruel, and then, once everyone else is alertish, he sets up his bedroll under the stars, having no tent. He also feeds his mule on some of the underbrush.
Once everyone starts climbing into bed, Simon simply takes a seat, his morningstar on his legs before him, watching into the night(1st shift)

Josie wasnt particUlarly helpful in any regard. He appeared to be little more than a boy himself, although something about the way he smiled and caried himself made his actual age uncertain. "I'll watch the cart," he said lazily though he was actually leaning against said cart.

Re: The Wonderful exploits of Fillangus Doddlehop&co IC
TARAKA
Taraka helps clear the coppice, taking massive handfuls of underbrush at a time. She scoffs at the so-called males who tire while performing such menial labor. The maiden scarfs down her gruel, letting out a raunchy-smelling belch, which is the Orcish way of signifying satisfaction.

When it comes to choosing where to set up his tent, and where to stand watch, Simon ensures that he is upwind of Taraka.

Re: The Wonderful exploits of Fillangus Doddlehop&co IC
Casimir
Casimir potters round the camp a little, helping clear away any of the scrub that he can, when it comes to the watch, he declares, with a becoming hint of self-deprecation, "I need my full nightly rest, to fuel my mighty magic prowress, therefore I believe others would be better suited to keep watch," he appears to think for a moment, then continues, "In addition, I probably wouldn't see something until it hit me anyways." He unrolls his bedroll, trying to locate himself, close enough to the cart that he could take cover easily in case of attack, and settles down for the night.
-
Re: The Wonderful exploits of Fillangus Doddlehop&co IC
Santiago curls his lip at the idea of more hard labor, this was definitely not what he had hoped, his only thought, was that strength came from numbers. Perhaps that was why they had not seen anything so far.
Although he wandered if these numbers was what the saying was referring to. There were some truly amazing people in the group.
Sighing he stayed behind to guard the wagon as the others checked the clearing.
Once it looked ok, he helped clear the brush out and set out his own sleeping place waiting to be awoken for watch, to take his turn guarding and patrolling the perimeter.

Robert "Bob" MacBane
AC: 16, HP 10 Fort +2, reflex +0 will -1
Attacks: +4 long sword, +1 longbow
Robert got stuck on first watch again. The same watch he’s been stuck on since he signed up with this outfit. But at least he was noticed, that was better than most of the time. He seemed always stuck in the back, bringing up the rear of the convoy, dodging around horse droppings and covered in dust.
But such seems to be Robert’s (or “Bob” as everyone seems to call him once they bother to learn his name) lot in life. There just didn’t seem to be anything special about him, he wasn’t particularly, hansom or ugly nor was he particularly short or tall, in fact, he has no distinguishing features what so ever. He was of average size and weight with brown hair and eyes. In other words, completely forgettable, unlike some of the others in the caravan, like Taraka “the beautiful”, while not exactly beautiful, she was at least unforgettable.
When offered the meal, he takes it and the skin of water, takes a sip and washes the dust out of his mouth before taking a longer draw on it. He gives his thanks, but that goes unanswered. So, after eating his meal, which was as bland as he seems to be, he takes up his position on a convenient stump just out of the firelight and pulls a sunrod out of his pack, balancing it on his knee and waits or nightfall.

At times like these, Ryuuhei thought it was a bad choice not bringing his uncle's sickle along. Clearing the bush would be far less complicated with the right tools for the job. Still, with a handful of old folks helping him, Ryuuhei managed to finish the task. He made a mental note to purchase a small cheap sickle once they came upon a town.
As the others were eating, Ryuuhei spent a few minutes practicing his swordsmanship a relatively safe distance away. After that, he sets up his bedroll and blanket, to get a comfortable place to sit and sup.
Actually, he doesn't eat a lot in trips like this, as the trail rations aren't exactly spectacularly tasty in the first place. Nonetheless, he made a few, small bites at his morsel of tough bread, trying to observe and listen to everybody else's conversation and whatnots. It was probably the stark difference between either his age or his culture to theirs, but the stories got boring faster than he could finish his meal, that he fell asleep in no time.

Re: The Wonderful exploits of Fillangus Doddlehop&co IC
Josie decides to take on the third watch, reasoning that if something was to happen, it probably would before then. That being said, he doesn't prepare a tent like the others, but when the time comes to sleep, he tosses a bag underneath the cart. If cut-throats show up, he won't be where he's expected.

Re: The Wonderful exploits of Fillangus Doddlehop&co IC
An hour or two passes before Simon notices something big moving around the other side of the camp. Looking closer it looks like a big black bear is sniffing its way towards the cart.
-
Re: The Wonderful exploits of Fillangus Doddlehop&co IC
Simon, seeing the bear, thinks about a way to get it to go elsewhere, but, alas fails. As he clanks around the camp, deliberately making enough noise to wake everyone up(failing the move silently), approaching the cart, he hopes that the noise of the armor will be enough to drive the bear away. If not, perhaps the others will be able to help him to get rid of it.

Bob hears an unpleasant sounding growl and immediately dismisses it as their half orc companion’s snores.
As he turns to maybe try to hush the half orc, he notices the large black bear staring one of the others in the face. Why does all the crap have to happen on his watch?
Bob, grabs his bow from his pack, and stands, knocking an arrow as he does so; ready to loose and arrow at the beast if necessary.

Ryuuhei started to stir in his sleep after being disturbed by the bear's fierce growling. His body shifted reflexively, now facing the bear's direction.
His mumbling otherwise continues, partly revealing to anyone close enough to hear him his rauchy fantasies. Eheheh...Veridia-chan, not now... I'm, uh... Ehh, why are you... growling Veridia-chan?
