O-Chul is gonna be mad
in this strip http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0477.html
Belkar tosses O-Chul back to the MitD to save himself. I think that they will probably meet again and at that time O-Chul could get really mad at Belkar and at the OOTS for associating with someone who is definitely evil. It could get really dramatic.
I'm sorry if this was already gone over a while ago.

Perhaps that's how Belkar will die.
But also keep in mind that O-Chul has good Wisdom, therefore he;s less prone to blind rage and much more able to control himself.

Re: O-Chul is gonna be mad
Yeah, but that's peanuts compared to what :xykon: and :redcloak: have done to him since then.
Still, it should be interesting to see the confrontation if/when they meet again.

Yeh but the reason Xykon and RC tortured him so much for information is because Belkar tossed him back to the MitD

Re: O-Chul is gonna be mad
He's not going to be angry at the Order as a whole: V rescued him, Haley lead the Resistance for a while and they all defended Azure City. O-Chul might even have agreed that it was better to let him be captured in order for the rest of them to escape.

healthkit. Good point. I think what Redcloak and Xykon did is a tad worse.
And AMAZING avatar. SO funny :)

Re: O-Chul is gonna be mad
This might be a decent arguement if it was a different paladin, but O-Chul should be given a bloody statue as what a paladin is supposed to be. I mean, when he's taking the time to befriend the MitD, which for all he knows is a demon of some sort, he has the patience and compassion to let Belkar off with little more than a glare.
That's assuming he even recalls what happened while frozen like that.
-
Re: O-Chul is gonna be mad
Based on the circumstances, I think he'll understand why Belkar did it (looking back at the comic, I don't know if Belkar would have been able to make that jump while keeping hold of O-Chul).
-
Re: O-Chul is gonna be mad
Hasn't there already been a thread on this? It certainly isn't a new theory!
-
Re: O-Chul is gonna be mad
belkar's reasoning was sound, if somewhat selfish...o-chul as a wise paladin would recognize it..and as a virtuous one, he would have put the mission above all else and if possible, asked to be left behind..so no, I don't think he'll be doing anything more than making a few sarky comments about it.
-
Re: O-Chul is gonna be mad
O'chul appears to have survived torture by becoming a Zen master, which means that he will accept Belkar's new behavior as a sign that he's seen the light, provided that he is convinced that it's genuine.
-
Re: O-Chul is gonna be mad
I'm sure O-Chul understands that without dropping him the two would be unable to escape. Besides, Belkar's behavior enabled O-Chul to get some info on the enemy, help/redeem the MITD, and temporarily getting Xykon's phylactery out of the way. I don't think O-Chul'll be too mad after what good he was able to accomplish.
-
Re: O-Chul is gonna be mad
I find it unlikely. O-Chul is a big believer in divine providence - he was left behind because the 12 gods WANTED him to be left behind. That Belkar was the instrument of their will isn't going to make him feel vengeful.
-
Re: O-Chul is gonna be mad
I doubt he thinks it's fate or anything.
O-Chul simply understands that there has to be a sacrifice for good to beat evil. And while he may not be happy about the fact he willing to be that sacrifice.
In that case it was sacrifice one in order to save three. He may not like that he was the one, but he understand that it was for the best.
-
Re: O-Chul is gonna be mad
So...O'chul will believe that Belkar was acting from a LG mindset and want to give him paladin training? O'chul might accept that Belkar did the right thing, but he won't believe for a moment that he did it for the right reasons.

He was Paralyzed, not Stoned.
He just couldn't move. He could still think, see ... and hear.

No, O-Chul wouldn't believe either. He knew Belkar was being selfish and self-absorbed. Some good came out of it, but that's cold comfort. His counsel? Probably to just get Belkar far away from the Azurites... and not to trust him in the least.
-
Re: O-Chul is gonna be mad
Overall, O'chul has shown that he is a reasonable person. If Belkar has "reformed," he would accept it and move on...as soon as Belkar stopped carrying a lead sheet around with him.
-
Re: O-Chul is gonna be mad
Well, it was really the MitD who created the situation that caused Belkar to abandon him anyway, and O-Chul seems to have forgiven him well enough.

Belkar has already "died" and has been reborn a "new" belkar since the oracle is a tricky bastard he could have meant chaotic evil belkar died and O-Chul will see this "new" Belkar (plus along with his wisdom) and not take any actions against "new" belkar

Wise man say - a thief in a room of cops would act as law abiding as possible.
But don't think the cops would believe the thief is reformed. :smallwink:

1) Belkar is still CE - his actions toward Brainy Pete, Jenny, Darth Vaarsuvius all indicate this.
2) The Oracle's wording, including such specifics as "last breath - ever" and "mortal coil" make it unlikely he meant a metaphysical or philosophical form of death.

There you go looking at things logically again!

Re: O-Chul is gonna be mad
I think O'Chul won't strike down Belkar in a rage of justice or vengeance. He's too smart for that, but he MIGHT ask for a trail, so Belkar can be judged fairly (and we all know (do we?) he's going to be found guilty).

When did Miko change her name to O-Chul and get resurrected?
-
Re: O-Chul is gonna be mad
MITD hands O-Chul over to Xykon and Redcloak directly and deliberately for no good reason and O-Chul calls him a good man.
He doesn't strike me as the kind to hold a grudge over Belkar doing what he did.
-
Re: O-Chul is gonna be mad
i dont think he is CE anymore what he did to the people after waking up wasn't really evil though brainy pete? he was evil for not only turning his friend in but for betraying the OoTS err partial OoTS anyways...
jenny? he defeated her and mocked her hardly evil at all and even said kill stealing wasn't his thing anymore
motal coil? sounds like soul or the very fabric that makes up one person and for belkar that has changed.. he has changed so much he scared the hell out of the people who knew him the longest (err atleast longer than most since most tend to die before he changed)
last breath as the old belkar happened
so with all the changes to belkar i doubt O-chul will even want a trial since not only did belkar fight against the resistance but also fought during the battle of Azure City.. yes he did evil things but he also done amny things that has made up for the sins against the paladins

Except O-Chul, during his captivity, found out that MITD is young and naive. MITD believed that Xykon and Redcloak were MITD's 'friends', and, in his youth and inexperience, MITD believed them.
O-Chul gets sympathetic with MITD because he knows MITD is being lied to and manipulated. And O-Chul knows MITD has the ability to do good if MITD realizes what Xykon and Redcloak want is wrong.
Belkar has no such excuse. Belkar's old enough and experienced enough to know the consequences of his actions, yet acts like he does anyway.

Re: O-Chul is gonna be mad
We don't see what happens between Monster's telling O-chul "I'm going to introduces you to my friends- we're going to have so much fun" and Xykon and Redcloaks arriving and getting the pleasant surprise of a captured paladin.
Actually, we don't see them meeting MiTD at all after the battle- its "offscreen"
It's possible O-chul lets the monster off on that issue because of its childishness. Plus, he couldn't talk at the time to ask "Please let me go" - he was paralysed.
-
Re: O-Chul is gonna be mad
Belkar didn't change alignment. He just fakes being Lawful just as Shojo did.
-
Re: O-Chul is gonna be mad
theres a difference between faking C/L and G/E belkar is more CN now than before
