Nah, it turns out One Piece is actually a time portal. Luffy goes back in time and becomes Gol D. Roger!

Yeah, that was sad. I hope that they find some way to repay him.
Also, what's up with Zoro's obsession with fish?

He's hungry, let the poor man be. Probably didn't eat anything decent since... splitting from the crew? Nah.
Also, I totally had the same theory as VanBuren. On a slightly more serious note: How can he be not Luffy's dad? Garb definitely got something mixed up there...
Poor Sanji... (though, I guess I understand him) and alas, poor Kuma. Honestly, I don't think he'll be back. Just hope they'll make it quick and painless when they face him.

Yeah, but Luffy got the hat from Shanks, who served with Roger if memory serves. Roger told Garp that was the woman carrying his son, and presumably Dragon turned Luffy over to him, which is why he knows that Luffy is his grandson. Add in that Luffy is younger than Ace, that means in order for him to be Roger's son his mother must have been pregnant with him for 2-3 years. So either Garp has been lying to everyone this entire time and Shanks is the only to find out, or Shanks just decided that Luffy reminded him of Roger, and so gave him Roger's hat.

Re: One Piece -- Discussion
Yeah, I was mostly joking there ^^'
Still, it looks just so much like him. And Dragon... dunno, I always thought he looked a bit more like Ace (or vice-versa). I guess I'm just seeing Epileptic Trees.

Re: One Piece -- Discussion
People in the same family don't necessarily need to look alike in the One Piece universe. I don't recall Sabo's family looking all that much like him.

Re: One Piece -- Discussion
When I saw Kuma, all I could think of was the Jurassic Bark episode of Futurama

Its not like this doesnt apply to the real world as well, genetics are a fun game with very strange rules.

Re: One Piece -- Discussion
I hope it's not too late to give this one a bump up without making it necromancy...
So, new chapter! Luffy tamed the Kraken, the villains get dumber every arc and.... I was going to complain they had to pick someone else than Davy Jones as the Dutchman's captain but it seems my memory is disturbed by the PotC movies... I thought he was the captain before them o.O
Anyway, another ghost ship, underwater giants and a new crew member(?)! Or pet. or whatever. I feel like I'm missing something but I can't remember... whatever.

But those guys were obviously minor annoyances and filler villains. The real villain is the Disturbed mascot that started showing up between panels.

Its a sad day when someone with a Logia type DF is turned into a filler villain.

I think it's more of a demonstration that Logia fruit powers don't turn you into an unstoppable combat monster. That's all we've had up till now, and it's good to see that a dumb Logia user isn't quite as formidable as others we've seen.

That's agood point. I'm always shouting HAX!! every time a Logia turns up...even if the arc or character is awesome (Skypea and Ace, for examples )
Also, at this point, Luffy at least is Haki-capable, so he can punch through the Logia's cheater defenses

Re: One Piece -- Discussion
Ya, well Ace still died being a Logia type, by another Logia but still. And it's nice to see some dumb villains. The story was getting depressing with all the World Government super powers. The dude turns into -MUD- for lords sake, he's not going to be as awesome as someone who turns into light

WEll, yeah, Logia users can still die, if A: they're fighting a logia user (magma? you hax little bastard!:smallfurious:)B: there is some special weakness like Luffy's Rubber countering Enel's lightning, or C: if the opponent is a Haki-User
Which is why they are so (and I promise to stop using the work do much henceforth )---Hax

How would Haki affect Blackbeard?

It might not, or strong enough Haki might shut down his powers...or strong enough "King's Disposition" might shut him down ::Evilgrin::

You know I keep seeing this, but it was made clear Logia users aren't automatically intangible manifestations of their element, they have to will it (Crocodile). Further Magma-man was going after Luffy, and Ace being intangible wouldn't have saved him (Luffy) so Ace had to stop the blow with his body, which he did saying "Lol, Magma beats fire" completely invalidates Ace's sacrifice to save Luffy, which is annoying.

The "magma beats fire" thing was stablished a few panels before Akainu tried to kill Luffy, though.
About the current chapters: is anyone else amused at Oda's drawings of a giant blobsifh?

I was just referring to the cheating natuer of being able to brun the "fire" man because you are a "magma" man. It in no way invalidates him stopping Akainu with his body. Either way he didn't have to put himself in the line of fire, logia or no logia.:smallfrown:
(and 'has to will it' basically means, in practical one piece terms, that 99.9% of the time they will do so just before an attack hits:smallamused:, so in essense they have to be killed by one of the three above methods--though Teach seems to be an exception to the intangible avatar part)
I'm amused the most by "octopuuuus...pawnch!"

Re: One Piece -- Discussion
It has also been established however, that the strongest Logia users are automaticaly intangible, so not even a sneak attack would hit them.

Van Der Decken is the captain of the Flying Dutchman in the original tale. Davy Jones just comes from "Davy Jones' locker" and was mixed in with the Disney version. It's easy to understand once you realize that Davy Jones is far from a Dutch name as it is clearly English.
On that note, once I saw that ship, I silently jubilated and now am immensely curious about the captain and his crew.

It's going to be EPIC!
I thought it was so cool how Franky just bound Caribou...
I don't think that Caribou is going to be a Straw Hat, he is just a filler villain.
