This thread.
I'll update the first post when we have more information confirmed. But basically we're looking like 1 to 2 official days, with the possibility of extra days for those who are staying longer. If no one volunteers a bed for the night, I may be there only for the 1 day.
I would like very much to confirm a primary day where everybody tries to be there, even for a little bit, with the extra days for those wanting to make the most of the trip.
Thanks for the support. It was rough, but I've decided to continue with this for the time being. I am halfway through so I might as well try to pull through to the end. If that doesn't happen, oh well, plenty more jobs in WA as people have said.
I suppose I may as well ask this here: anyone up Queensland way going to have, or know someone who's going to have, a spare room next year in or around Brisbane? I don't smoke, happy to drink or to not drink, can supply a fair bit of furniture and cooking stuff and the like, can cook, and am willing to pay up to about $150/week (preferably less, *maybe* more if Brisbane's really expensive). The catches: I have a cat (older, inside at night, scared of a bird), and to start with I'll probably just be on Centrelink.
I'd love to help, but unfortunately, my parents would have an issue with someone who I've never met coming to live at our house.
Also, our cats would probably not be friendly with yours.
Eh, you'd be surprised. He's lived with other cats before. He'd just go hide under the bed :smalltongue:
When-abouts and for how long are you hoping to be up?
The reason I ask is because I'm currently looking into my own place and have found a 5 bedroom house with Electricity and Water included in rent, which is $550 (hopefully $110 per person if I can find enough room-mates to fill all these rooms).
At the moment my marker is "early next year", but I'm very flexible. I have an opportunity to do some bed-and-board work near Sydney that could potentially open up some other avenues for employment (thus the being able to go to the mini-meet thing), but I'm not sure how long that guy will want me there. So... anywhere from part-way through December? And indefinitely - I'll be focussing my search for work around there.
Basically, I've been looking all over Australia for work, and that's been a bust, and my mum and her husband and I have been getting on each others' nerves, and I have a whole lot of people looking after all my stuff and my cat, and I just really need to pick a spot, settle in, and base myself from there. And I think I've decided Brisbane's the place to go: I have a few friends up there, as well as some family including my dad, and Brisbane itself seems pretty nice and not too daunting for a city.
If electricity's included, I think $110 each would be very reasonable. How is it for public transport and the like? And how are you as a housemate? :smalltongue:
I'm quiet (You would already know this :smalltongue:) and I try to keep common space clean. I don't smoke, rarely drink, and I like cats. I like cooking, I'm a gamer, and I enjoy most music.
The house I'm looking at is close to 2 major bus routes and just under 2km to the train-station. It's also close to both a Coles, a Woolworths, a Miss India, a Noodle Box, Nandos, a few cafes, and my regular Sunday gaming group.:smalltongue:
Well this is sounding pretty great so far. Can you tell me where it is, what dates you're looking at, and how likely you think you are to be able to get it?
I tend to be clean but messy, but as long as I have my own room to mess up, and maybe a corner to pile up until I pack it all away again, I'm pretty fine and happy to get told off. Also I tend to clean in a flurry: can't be bothered to do anything for a month, and then I clean ALL the things! Far better than they need, usually...
edit: Wait, we have Nandos in Australia?
Yes.:smalltongue:
There you go. Thought it was a British thing.
So, waddaya think? We gonna be housemates?
EVAR! ...you know, until we discover each other's bad habits and become worst enemies, anyway :smallwink:
Now go get us that house! Qwaz will be my reference!
(also: dates?)
It would be better if you had a time machine.
That works for me. Sometime after the 10th would be my ideal - I'd have a couple of weeks working for and talking with this guy down Sydney way, can make it to the meet-up, and could be up there in time to spend Christmas with dad!
...and his girlfriend :smallsigh:
Let me know if you need any references or anything from me. Think you'll be able to find another 3 housemates? It'll be great if we can get that one, but if not, well, we seem to be looking for something pretty similar anyway.
For the sake of completeness: I can supply a double bed, chest of drawers, two side-tables and maybe a dressing table (which I'll probably claim for my room); one or two (really comfy) single beds; a couch; two armchairs; a coffee table; possibly a couple of bookshelves; lots of pots and pans, plates, glasses, mugs, and other kitchen stuff; a silverback griller (big George Foreman grill); toaster; kettle; linens; and probably a bunch of other stuff - I kinda got a whole house of furniture.
I think I could cope with paying $138 (for 4 people) if it came to that.
If there just so happens to be a spare room no one occupies, I make occasional trips to Brisbane and may ask to visit.
I do like having a spare room, but I also like having money, so I'm good either way.
(those rooms look pretty huge, though, so I'm sure we can at least find you some floor space, Rawhide :smalltongue:)
As nice as it would be to have a Guest room, I don't think it'd be a good idea.
That being said, if we do end up getting this house, you would be welcome to stay Rawhide.

Welp folks its official. Twas nice knowing you all
I have a car. It drives on the wrong side. It is crazy.
Melbournites what do you suggest to fill in 5 Hours or so in your City?
I'll have most of the morning and afternoon to fill in and quite possibly some of the following day (which is mostly going to be occupied by the Aquarium visit)
I'll be staying in the CBD so anything surrounding that would be good.
There's the Melbourne museum with Phar Lap's hide.
